I just want to pin this comment here so everyone is aware. I don't depot a lot of eyeshadow. I wasn't worried about trying to save the mattes which is why I didn't take much care in the act of depotting them. They absolutely could've been repressed but I didn't want them. And absolutely you can try the steps that I took to depot but by no means is this the "only" or "right" way to depot. It's just what I did.
...my mom used to say that if you're a good host, you make the first stain on the tablecloth. So thanks for a tiny bit of mess and being a good host, now I won't feel so bad about myself when I try this❤

Haven't we all, at one time or another, heated our palettes on top of the toast oven until we smelled melted plastic. Ahhh, memories.

My wallet would be so much happier if Pat sold all her shadows as singles. And you're absolutely right, the matte formula in her older palettes isn't easy to work with. It has improved recently though.
That palette is also 5 years old so I think they were just not even at their pique.
I wanted to depot my PML Bridgerton Blushing Delights face palette because it was so bulky, but the idea of "ruining it" the way it was intended kept me from doing it until the packaging was starting to peel off anyway. Omg it was SO easy to depot since they're on raised clay tiles anyway and so easy to slap a metal sticker to the bottom and put them in my Kaleidos Tin I repurposed into a magnetic palette. So glad I did it!

I never knew about anybody else depotting and rearranging their PM mothership palettes. ❤❤❤. I'm so glad I found you. I have depotted some of the matte shades in mothership V and VII. The shades I never care for and were stopping me from using those palettes, and repressed new and exciting ones.

For depotting some of my palettes (not PMG) I used my seam ripper from my sewing kit. Thin, strong and has a handle

The thing I find with deporting is that it takes a lot of patience - more than I often have. Also, it takes way longer to heat up and loosen the glue than I anticipate - again requiring more patience than I often have. But from a fulfillment and usage perspective, it is definitely worth it!
Yeah I’m not much of a depotter myself. I only do it when it’s like absolutely necessary!

You got me scared that your special shades shattered beyond repair--- this looks so lovely and I love that you're staying true to your ethos of use what you have and removing the excess, in this case the shades that don't sing and making one beautiful special pallette that will be used and loved more than the original three ever could.

Okay that turned out better than I was dreading it would. For anyone reading this who has panicked at a broken, expensive shadow, I've re-pressed a broken matte and multichrome from Pat, and it went really well. The matte was the hardest, but it can be done. Bug me if you want tips or tricks. Love how this turned out, Tom!
How do you handle re-pressing a matte? I've re-pressed a shimmer shadow or highlighter [*cough* BECCA] in my day & found those pretty easy to reconstitute... But many shimmer/metallic formulas have a silicone quality to them that makes them cooperative in the process. I can't imagine a matte not being crumbly after re-pressing.
@@ZijnShayatanica It's def more time-consuming pressing mattes. What worked for me was putting the pieces of the whole shadow (scoop out anything left in the pan if it only partially broke) into a tiny zippy plastic bag in the 2x2" range, crushing everything back into a powder with a spoon without any clumps, cutting the corner off the bag and carefully distributing about 1/2 the powder in a layer, laying a tissue overtop, pressing with something that fits the inside of the pan which happened to be a little plastic clamshell container I'd gotten an indie single shadow in, and repeating. Basically just redoing its creation at the factory from a powder. I use the shadow often and it's like it was never broken.
Edit: I realize that with the talk of tiny baggies and spoons I sound like I do drugs but I make jewelry and have a lot of tiny baggies around. However, they're not hard to find at a craft store, Walmart, or somewhere online if you need them. And everyone has spoons.

Oh boy these glasses are really old so idk. They’re from Zenni optical tho. I DOUBT they still have this style but let me see.

Oh my goddd the mattes are everything ! It killed me seeing them break ahahaha I could see myself someday depotting when most of my shades are almost close to done, I’ve panned a lot of them already but I would give it more time. I’ve seen people repress things like new it would be so cool to be able to have them as singles though.
I have been wanting to do this to mine for a long time. PM mattes are just awful patchy chalk. Before i knew about the amazing indie world of multi chromes, her speciality shades drew me in. It was the only reason i purchased the motherships. I was new to makeup and started with these. I am so happy i found better formulas. I always hated neutrals, but didn’t know where else to get the speciality shades at the time. What a waste of money… at least i can access the fun shades. It is crazy that anyone would get nasty over depotting a palette. I know i am late, but glad i found your channel!

Really liked the video, maybe, if I was going to do this, I would transform the palette into a magnetic one glueing metal circles and magnets, that way I could move the shadows freely
Some people in the premier chat asked me why didn’t do that! Mostly because I’m lazy but also I wanted to like make something that felt mine! I’m not big into depotting / repotting eyeshadow so that would have taken me so long lol

As a very big “fan” of PMG who was never a STAN I’m so here for this video ! 😅 also you are soooo right about these brands not caring about any of us 😂 lol let alone the Stans … furthermore makeup is supposed to be FUN … so do whatever you want ! 😊 I’d love to know if creating this special palette has increased use 🤔😅 we need an update !!! I wasn’t surprised the mattes crumbled easily; as her mattes are super dry & how awesome was seeing the true texture of the special shades 🤩😍😳🤯😱 thank you for this video ! I’m def not brave enough to do it though ❤

these are so fun to watch! i loved Kat's too. The palette you ended up with is driving me kinda nuts its so pretty and intriguing (as in my desire to swatch all that glorious glitter is driving me nuts).
I held off on the motherships forever, because they are $218 in Australia and that's just insane. I finally fell really hard for moonlit seduction last year and got it, and I really love it. I use it a tonne, I'll probably pan five of the shades, I actually quite like two of the mattes, I'd consider repurchasing after I pan the five shades I really love. I can live with that.
But then my love of moonlit seduction made me do a dumb thing: buy two more motherships. I regret it so much. I only love literally one shade in divine rose, and two in huetopian dream. And i hate owning three of these bulky, expensive palettes. I never end up using the few shades that i like in the other two palettes, cause i don't wanna get them out and have them take up room on my makeup desk. I feel so wasteful. I guess you can't charge that much for a palette and not have ppl have a lot of feelings about buying and owning them.
I'll probably give it some time to see if my feelings change, as I've only owned the other two motherships since January, but I could see myself depotting the special shades, moving them into my singles collection and passing on the others to someone else (if anyone would even want them in that state).
I have absolutely felt that way about my makeup purchases and absolutely about my PMG palettes. It's a thing in the makeup world I don't think is discussed often enough. I try to only buy one version of each thing when there are multiples. Blushes? I'll buy one shade of a formula and even if I love it I try hard to just use and keep loving it that one.
@@hautemesstom that's definitely an approach i'm gonna try to take from now on. I think i'll be happier at the idea I'm "missing out" on other great shades than I am owning things I don't love. Because, as you said (paraphrasing), I already own a thing I love, in that first product. And also, that desire to buy more version/colours of the same formula really feels like a thing I can teach myself to not feel by not indulging it every time
This is so true. State of Kait (and I think HLP too) talks about ‘need another shade’ mentality when in reality the first one you selected is the perfect one. I’ve defo learned the hard way!

I've been watching a lot of de-potting content lately because I've drastically changed the way I do my makeup over this past year [ie I always do my makeup in the car now] & my two fave BH palettes are languishing... And I desperately want to use them again. It's way easier for me to plop a few single shadows & a highlighter into my small Z palette than it is to juggle an eyeshadow palette AND my Z palette w/ my highlighter. I think I'm finally gonna do it... Definitely scared of ruining any of my favourite shades, but I watched Lauren Mae Beauty & she didn't have the worst time. 😬😬😬
[For anyone curious, my palettes are the Blueberry Muffin & Cherry on Top. I mostly use Blueberry for the neutrals, tho, lmao]
The mothership 5 is my first pat palette too and it's my favorite of the big motherships I have. The special shadows are extremely special.

I have been pretty rough with my Pat palettes. It’s just makeup and should be used! Don’t not use it just because the packaging is pretty!
I depot all my palettes - even PMG. I heated mine in the oven first though and the 2 came out unscathed!

I’ve started consciously buying palettes with removable pans because I don’t enjoy depotting. That said, one of my most used “singles” is a depotted urban decay shadow. My indie shades are sometimes *too* sparkly and textured and what my look needs is a plain old shimmer.
I have an irrational dislike of the PMGL brand, so this was extremely satisfying to me!

I used to buy all her realeses without hesitating but not amymore. I did paid full price and that is the reason why I refuse to declutter or depot. You are right, you spent your money for it. I like Natasha Denona because I can depot easier but again, do not buy like I used to.
Watching you use the open scissors to get those pans out caused me great stress.
I’ve had great luck softening glue using a candle warmer. My hot plate has a raised edge so I can set a palette on it without it touching the heating element and I can just passively watch it while I do something else. The hairdryer is too loud for me to sit there with it on!
Lolololol, here’s the thing I so rarely depot things that I don’t have any methods and the likelihood of my depotting again anytime soon is pretty slim.
Once you've purchased it and it's in your hands, it's your property. You can do whatever you want with it. I think it's far better to save the shadows you like and try to get more use out of them, then the palettes sitting on your shelf never getting used. Never using the product seems like a bigger waste of money than taking 2-3 shadows you love and salvaging them.
I agree ! I do think a lot of us stigmatize it even towards ourselves when we do things like this!

I depotted mothership 2 after I failed at repressing the white astral. I loathed that shade but love the rest of the palette. It now lives in a kitpak with my depotted Bridgerton 2 and depotted mini ecstasy palette. This mixed palette is my travel PMG palette now. I also depotted the first 2 mega palettes and 2 of the older 6 pans. The mattes fell apart and I repressed them. Even one of the repressed mattes fell out later so, yes, the matters are terrible to depot. The metallics and satins are easy. I’m not good at all at depotting so they didn’t come out perfect but pretty decent.
I depotted some of the old six pans! I did those on the stove tho lol it was easier than this method.
@@hautemesstom yes. The stove is easier. That’s what I did with the mothership and all the others. I have a gas stove so I used a very large nonstick pan and lined it with foil, then put the palettes on top.

Makeup is supposed to be fun and I agree that the edginess that she had is kind of dulling. Use it however you want. If you want to throw the gold into a body oil and cover yourself with it...go for it!

Thanks for the great video and idea! I had absolutely no problem desecrating my PML palettes. In fact it was a rather cathartic experience. Dumping the crap colors we usually get and replacing them with the special ones was exactly what I needed to do. (I'm still at it as I'm writing this) Although I love how you used nail polish on the cover, I'll be using black vinyl with a carbon fiber design front and back. It turned out slick!

My 2 cents. I feel like you paid for this product, it belongs to you. You need to use it in a way that makes you happy. If you want to rearrange it to be more user friendly, or more visually pleasing or for shits and giggles that's your perogative and your purse.
