“Don’t take that as a threat, it’s just a reminder.” - Out of context, this feels like something that someone who’s pressuring me into giving them “protection money” would say 😂 Anyways, fun video as always! I should really try out Animal Well
I think it encapsulates Skyrim's quality. Skyrim is an okay game. It's overly ambitious, yet still fun. It's rather immersive, yet glitchy and funny. I think, for me, Skyrim is only worth doing a whole playthrough with lots of mods.
I think Skyrim and Elden Ring are more comparable than you think. I think the best thing about both of them is that they are both set in well developed worlds that you can get lost in. While Skyrim is my most played game, Elden Ring as a whole got it beat. I am excited to see what ES6 has to offer (not getting my hopes up though just in case)
Animal Well sounds like it’s right up my alley. I enjoy metroidvanias but not when they lean too heavy into combat. Added it to my wishlist! Love your chill and thoughtful videos as always.
Skyrim section gave me an idea, you should do a video titled 'Bugs as a feature', could be a video essay about the difference between a bug and a feature in many popular and niche games and how the games community typically is responsible for the difference depending on what theyre willing to accept. Could be cool
I did something tangentially related a little while back called “Playing Games in the Wrong Way” which touches a bit on that, so you might be interested in that one if you haven’t seen it, but yeah I do think that is a good concept. I find myself thinking a lot about intent vs interpretation and I think in interesting part of games is how bugs/glitches CAN (but often don’t) make a game better.
@@razbutwo I mainly thought of it because of the abundance of examples like in minecraft, the creeper is now a new mob that encapsulates whats unique about the game but it was entirely accidental. I think the difference between improvement from bugs and downfall from them mainly hinges on the community being able to accept the creative choices it grants you. Like by being able to differ from what the creators may have originally wanted it gives you freedom to play as you want but also to change how you view the game and in open-world games change what the point of the game is, it makes you think of games as more as an open-source project, driven by the community. I'll definitely check out the video, thanks tho.
@@razbutwo I wouldn't call myself a speedrunner as I have never truly attempted a speedrun, but a couple of years ago I started practicing a 16 Star run in SM64 (with all its bugs and glitches) and it gave me a whole new appreciation for this old game that I had thought I already knew everything about.
A game that immediately strikes me like that is CTR (Crash Team Racing). I'm not fully convinced that that game's speedrunning techniques, mainly the braking in the air giving you a free spin to reposition your car for curves, were originally intended as such
I'm playing Skyrim for the first time. I really, really like the game's atmosphere. I'm indifferent to the open world map (I don't ever feel like doing "exploration", as in stitching the open world together in a cohesive string of my experiences; rather, I enjoy the individual encounters and appreciate them singularly), but I love interacting with the characters and scanning tables and shelves of grabbable items for the ones I need, I appreciate the simplicity of combat (almost in a similar way to BotW, where I'm glad that it doesn't outshine the other features, as it's not really the main focus of the game), and I simply adore standing around, immersed. (Special shoutout to Jeremy Soule. And Lydia.)
The closing moments of the video made me sad seeing the video was May and then realising it was August, but then I saw the video was posted 7 hours ago
It's so nice to see someone who doesn't like Bethesda's games acknowledge that there's some things that they do well/better than other studios. I see a lot of people acting like New Vegas or The Outer Worlds or (soon) Avowed "outdid Bethesda at their own game) when really, while the moment-to-moment gameplay is similar, the core appeal is very different. Bethesda isn't "failing" to make the same kind of game that everyone else makes, they're succeeding (at least up until 76 and Starfield) at making a different type of game that appeals to a different type of person.
Oh, how time flies! I am definitely curious on the skyrim videos, as someone who missed out on the original hype and always felt a disconnect between the praise for that game and how it actually looked like...
Pretty great month for gaming I can say haha. I played Skyrim a long time ago and I spent 120hrs doing side stuff only and exploring the map and it was a mixed feeling u can only get while playing a Bethesda game. So free and yet so limited. Animal well I'm pretty sure i beat in May as well but without collecting the eggs but I can say it was stimulating from the very end and felt fresh. As for Elden Ring... I might make a video on it someday. Thanks for sharing your gaming journey Raz!
For someone who's such a small part of my life (a video every once in awhile), I've taken up a surprising number of your idioms. First: I've begun calling my girlfriend (who is the mother of my 6 year old child, and currently pregnant with another) "The lady I live with", because girlfriend felt inadequate but I don't wanna pretend we're married when we're not. Second: This week is the week she was due, so the end of my workday has become "See you tomorrow, unless I decide to start showing up" I truly feel like we vibe haha.
Thanks for the brief moment of excitement about summer vacation, but with September just two days away, I have mixed feelings. On the bright side, it means prime gaming season is back again. It's always fun hearing about the games you've been playing. Hopefully, the videos don't take too long to make, though I assume it's a half-baked script with footage from the main channel. Or maybe they do take a month to make-I wouldn't know, I'm not a TH-cam gaming video creator, just someone who writes incoherent comments!
I share your opinion on skyrim. I only truly begin to love the game when i start modding. When the base game becomes my canvas to paint upon. Its just great.
Why is no one talking about Nine Sols? I think that's a fantastic pick if you like Metroidvanias and Sekiro (since it's your favorite Fromsoft game as I know). The art style, combat, bosses and story are peak Metroidvania.
i found animal well to be a super intriguing and vibey fun time for about.... 4 hours. and then it got so, SO tedious with all the wandering around and backtracking to do *anything* that i dropped it after about hour 5. it was honestly a big "maybe i don't like this genre all that much" moment lol
Hey Raz! I know you might be looking for a cool, new, interesting game, so from my recent findings I really have to recommend you Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch. It has interesting fighting, a great story and incredible old-styled cutscenes. I think it might interest you. Great videos! Keep it up!
I'm with you on loving elden ring but knowing i need some variety When i felt a bit burnt out on it i beat shadow of the colossus, death's door, and firewatch back to back (all really great) but still don't have anything meaty to sink my teeth into Tried ff7 remake while it was on sale, but it's hard for me to look past the super awkward writing and performances after the stories in elden ring, firewatch and colossus Thankfully its only june now, so i have the rest of the summer to take a beat and figure out what else I might like!
Wow, I've been watching your videos for years now and if asked I wouldn't have ever said you hated Skyrim. I completely misunderstood 😅 Love your videos!
Wow! I find it remarkable thar you have never "mained" any multiplayer games, for the longest time before I got into playing single player i would only play games with my friends so games like cs:go and league have both got more than a thousand hours! It felt kinda weird not seeing some multiplayer game at the top tbh.
I'm not a fan of puzzle games, and the backtracking in Metroidvanias is horrible for me, yet Animal Well is probably my favourite game of the year. The lack of actual fights is super refreshing, because it can be quite tense even without them. I joined the AW discord a bit too late (= 4 days after it's launch, when I finished the game), but theorizing with others on the last few mysteries of the game and even slightly helping out with finding one of them was a great and unique experience.
it's crazy to me that your most played game is at ~300 hours I've racked up close to 3000 hours on Rocket League and am still pretty garbage at it ;p ( I feel like I must be a "bad gamer" ahah )
this may has felt pretty long, so I am hyped that it is finally june now!

Woo the start of pride month! Great how summer has just begun.
June!! Yeah baby!
Hype for Independence Day next month
You should try out SANABI, Its criminally underated in the west
Skyrim has less lag than Raz's "Games I played" series, and yet I still watch them instantly.
Raz saying it’s finally June has the same energy as me waking up from an accidental multi hour afternoon nap

One might even say it’s one of the video games of all time

Animal Well... what a great game. It's like Halo 2 and 3 combined! Can't believe Billy managed that.

It's okay, you can say it Raz, we all know it to be true. Skyrim is a bad game with a lot of charm and freedom that overshadows it's massive flaws.
Comparing Skyrim to Elden Ring feels like inviting Coughing Baby vs Hydrogen Bomb memes.
