You do the best instructional videos on upshifting and down shifting. You show the H/L range and actually using the splitter. Most talk about actions, but don’t actually explain and show action like you do. Thank a million & happy trails 🤠
What separates average from great drivers is attention to details. Awesome detailed video. Explanation is on point. Experienced drivers who share knowledge and wisdom is priceless! Great video and stay safe out there driver !!
Your explanation of the process of downshifting with the spliter is very comprehensible . I am a truck driver and that's how it's done! You may want to point out the different types of spliters, not just the 18 speed (grey splitter )but also 13 speed with( red splitter)and 13 speed (deep reduction blue splitter)
I haven't yet watched the full video but I've heard how well he's explaining everything. Thank you, the most helpful video I've found after hundreds of clicks on TH-cam
Your the best TH-camr to teach driving a 18 speed...i dont need to follow nobody else to learn to drive a 18 speed semi..with most of the TH-cam guys when you comment asking something they dont answe..but you seem like guy that will help
Grandpa use to own a big rig. I was always amazed at how many gears he had to shift!😅 Even use to have bad dreams of me driving it and not being able to stop😂 Respect ✊
I learned how to drive an 18 speed in a heavy wrecker. Best explanation by far. Better than the people who taught and not teach. As another comment stated- knowing how much of your foot to lift off of the throttle. As I found out tricky to do it when you have the engine brake on also. Coordination, practice, time and knowing your truck (sweet spot for RPM's).
My man thanks best video of how to downshift. you definitely clear all my doubts about downshifting. Thanks keep it up. I just got my CDL I am about to start a job and it is a 18speed
Thanks this helps a ton. I drive auto rn but want to want to eventually get my own truck and it will be either a 18 or 13. I don't have access to one rn but I practice in Truck simulator which isn't realistic and kinda crappy.
Thanks very good video was wandering whenever you do the reving for the downshift is it giving it gas or just reving it until you put it in the next gear ?
In your demonstration when you was dry shifting down,I noticed the high range shifter was down when you was in the last gear but you was driving you never once touched the high range until you got to the 5th gear
Great videos man again once again thank you I just have a question I’m a driver who refers to my RPMs on speed a lot I’m switching to a 13 speed can you make a video or something just to let me know what speeds I should be in for each gear upshifting and downshifting that would help me out tremendously I think I got it from your videos I think I learned a lot about shifting but just in case if I lose the gear I just want to know what speed I should be at and what gear that would help me out a lot man thank you
I'm learning how to drive an 18 speed hauling reefer my question do u have to shift all low gears to get to high meaning go 1 through 4 without splitting low gears then go into high. I get the concept just trying to figure out I've watched other videos and seen it
I am fresh out of truck driving school My 1st truck is a kenworth 2006 18 speed It was either this or go regional flat bed This job gets me home every night I am lost down shifting I don't know if I'm catching it at the right speed versus RPM I just watched your video I'm gonna try that The boss thinks I should be able to jump from a 21 freightliner 10 speed double clutching to this 18 gear kenworth Like no problem It's kicking my tail There is no comparison Any suggestions Would help
Great and precise instructions bro 🙏🏽 when youre splitting downshift, do you wait until youre at the bottom of the gear to rev it up? For example if im in 16th gear and want to split down, do i wait for the rpm to be in the 11 to 12 range before i throttle up?
man. thanks for video. one of best ive understood. one thing. down shifting. do i use throttle like up shift ? slide splitter then release throttle and push it again ? or do i push in throttle for the low or high gear to kick in ?
For down shifting the throttle is used to put it in the next gear. So if you’re in high 5 and you’re downshifting you’d put the splitter down then hit the throttle and now your in low 5. Then to downshift to high 4 you’d put the splitter up and shift down to 4th gear
Finally learning to downshift splitting high low in each gear and sometimes, when I blip the throttle to split into low it won’t catch and seems to grind as I rev, would it be me pressing to hard or soft on the accelerator pedal?
Depends on the truck you’re using. Most trucks have a lower RPM. 14/1600 RPM. Most are about 1500 RPM. Because mine it’s at a higher range I’m between 17/2000 RPM. But when you’ve learned your truck well enough you’ll be able to head when it’s ready to shift or down shift.
Do you need to split every gear you down shift? And also say if you miss a gear and you’re trying to find a gear again do you always have to have the splitter on high when trying to find a gear or does it not matter ? Please let me know thanks g
So when you’re down shifting, for example if you’re in low 7, you would flip the side button back to high and then just shift down to 6th? You don’t have to give it gas while shifting down to 6th? You only give it gas when u go from high to low in whatever gear you’re in?
also on my ten speed. i down shift about 9-1000 rpm and up shift about 15-1600. is this the same for 13 speed ? i’ve seen videos of ppl shifting at 600 rpm. that seems crazy in this ten speed frieghtliner. i’m getting a peterbilt 13 and i like watching rpms to drive
No... I’ll down shift till 6th gear that’ll put me about 15-20 mph then brake the ready of the way. Before I completely stop depending on the weight of my load I’ll put it in 3rd low or high or I’ll put it in 2nd low or high and then come to a complete stop. So I’ll already be in gear when it’s time to go
Best description I’ve heard so far. I’m going from auto to standard. Struggling with down shifting. Thank you
Hopefully you picked it up

Thank you for helping me with down shifting and splitting gears!! This video is exactly what I needed. 😁
Thank you 🙏🏾
Great explanation on shifting an 18 speed. Made it so simple I even got it. Thanks my friend. Stay safe out there.
Thanks for taking the time to break things down to where I (an automatic user) can understand way better how to shift a 18-speed.
Again sir, you have explained this very well. Can't wait to learn how to drive an 18 speed. I currently drive a 13 speed. Thank you
Thanks for the clear explanation you gave to me. Downshifting was kind of tricky but now I am goog to go. Again, thanks bro!
Thank you 🙏🏾

This is so helpful buddy! Thank you a bunch sir!
I had to subscribe!
there training me to use the clutch to take it out of gear only the match road speed with rpm hard as fuck
Thanks player I never could get this
You can downshift in high range instead of splitting

Thanks very good video was wandering whenever you do the reving for the downshift is it giving it gas or just reving it until you put it in the next gear ?
Great explanation and demo
For all y'all newbies keep the flap up and keep switching then keep the basics in mind when you learn how to shift in the first place
Hi great video. My question what is the front splitter switch for and when do you use the front splitter or is that a high and low range for shifting?
In your demonstration when you was dry shifting down,I noticed the high range shifter was down when you was in the last gear but you was driving you never once touched the high range until you got to the 5th gear
That was very helpful, very informative
Should have kept watching the rest of the video before commenting 👍🏼

No I don’t
Big help my brother keep up the good teaching . What should I do I have a 2022 Pete 389 18 speed but iam having hard time controlling the shifting
Why do they include reverse in the gear count total?
There are 17 forward speeds...
Doesn't make sense...

Truck sounds awesome! What engine is it?
So if you have to come to a stop before your able to down shift all the gears how do you restart

So don’t lift off pedal when splitting down? Just tap?
Great video and explanation! From a fellow truck driver.
If you’re in low 7 and going to high 6 do you rev the engine to get out of gear and rev again to go into gear?
At what rpm range do you downshift your truck at?
I love this video!
At what rpm should you downshift ????
I couldn’t keep the RPM s up so I would double clutch Love that sound
Nothing wrong with that. Get er done 🤙🏾

Is there any class or somewhere I can practice to learn how to drive 18sp?
Depending on where you live their should be CDL training near you
@@Kilowatt_379

What rpm do you rev to when you are downshifting?
My dude, thank you so much, peace!
U did well explaining
Watt ? Do you double tap the gas ?
this vedio is the best

Say I’m in 7HIGH Can I go to 6 HIGH without going to 7 LOW first? Or can you go from 7 high to 6 LOW if your slowing down fast?
Where should your RPM range be when downshifting without using the clutch.

I'd like you to do a clutchless video lesson thou💯
A what 😂. Automatic?
You can shift a semi manual without the clutch you only need the clucth to start moving off and to stop💯
Will do
At how many RPM do you down shift.
Found it. Ty sir
What if the gear doesn’t wanna go in when you down shift
Brother when your down shifting when do I hit the other splitter to continuing down shifting
Do you have a video downshifting loaded??
also on my ten speed. i down shift about 9-1000 rpm and up shift about 15-1600. is this the same for 13 speed ? i’ve seen videos of ppl shifting at 600 rpm. that seems crazy in this ten speed frieghtliner. i’m getting a peterbilt 13 and i like watching rpms to drive
So do you really have to split when downshifting? If so can you go from a HIGH 7 to a LOW 6.. or high 7 to high 6? I'm confused
So you stay in a higher gear when at a dead stop or do you downshift all the way to 1st low from like example 6th high?
