BURLEY TOBACCO - Our Master Blender Explains It

  • Burley became a tool in the toolbox of the successful tobacco blender rather late. The origin of Burley tobacco was credited to George Webb and Joseph Fore in 1864. They had brought seeds from Kentucky to southern Ohio, seeds from a tobacco plant that had developed other leaves than those of normal tobacco grown in Kentucky. The leaves were thinner than those grown in Kentucky and the colour consisted of gradual shades of white and yellow. The seeds were planted in a field and once they had been harvested, White Burley was born.

    Another great video by the master blender himself! Per Georg has such a vast knowledge of tobacco and it is such an honor to have the privilege to work with him.

    Ive seen so many videos about Perique and have never once heard of this magical mystery liquid added to the barrel, learn a new mystery everyday. Great video!

    • @NGC6144
      @NGC6144 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      RIght. I remember from an issue of Pipes Magazine ages ago that the only thing added to perique was water, moistened to a degree by the way it feels before barrel fermented under pressure.

    • @fk80189
      @fk80189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They just spray the cured dry leafs with water to give them the moisture back, stack them into a barrel and put pressure on them... after a year or two they open the barrels take the leafs out and stack them new, then again pressure is added for another year or two until the leafs are fermented how the factory wants them. No magical fluid besides water is involved. There are a few Videos about Perique here on TH-cam and they say that only water is used, so I think we have to believe the manufacturers. The black Liquid comes from the natural juices that are released out of the leafs through the pressure. And the natural leaf juices ferment the tobacco, that's the whole magic. But the real magic I guess is to find the right spot when to stop the process.

      @@fk80189 thats what i heard so far too. the liquid are the result of the fermentation n pressure.

    Dark fired nicotine content always hits me harder, though I’m not sure if it really does have a higher content than say, white burley. After all, it’s a kind of burley which is smoked over oak.

    "...please let the magic live..."
    As a Frenchman in England, I can enjoy the magic of an old Wessex Saint-Claude pipe and the magic of a nice VaPer tobacco.
    Shame that the last one I ordered arrived in an awful plastic "tub" packaging.
    Plastic stinks.
    No thank you.

      Have you tried their HH line? Those are made without top flavour and so the taste is of natural tobacco only.
      As for Manil’s Semois, it’s absolutely unique, almost entirely unprocessed.
