I didn't notice this back when I first played the game all those years ago, but when Jak is dealing with Daxter, he acts more like his old self; amused with Daxter's antics and more likely to smile. As opposed to when dealing with most other people, where he's usually scowling and acting hostile. Yeah, Daxter is his best friend, but considering Jak is much more violent in this game, it's nice to see how he's still so friendly towards his friend.
The same is said about Daxter. No matter what Daxter treats Jak the same way as always in contrast to Keira who felt like she was rejecting him for who he became. Jak and Daxter are probably god tiered brothers in games xD
The scene when Daxter drinks too much at the Hip Hog Saloon, Jak is just trying to hide his laughter. Probably the first time he laughed in a long time. Daxter might have been a bit of a coward who didn't know when to shut up, but he was the ideal best friend for Jak when it mattered.
They remind me of Jay and Silent Bob. One is just always screaming about some dumb, inane shit... the other one just quietly nods in approval and only speaks if its really necessary. Lmao
I grew up on jak 2 so I bought the whole series recently and I must say playing Jak 2 after precursor legacy as a adult has completely changed my view of the game. I thinks it's a good game that's much better than most modern games, but it's kind of disappointing. The first has great platforming, every item meant something, and it felt like authentic exploration, and I think that was lost in the second. The seconds combat is better but it's missions are to linear and the mission structure makes it feel less free flowing.
are you kidding me lol. the "shooting" is so bad you cant even aim. the game aims for you. and you constantly have to run across the city to pick up missions all that could have been done through a holo or something. half the missions are just "go kill" something BS so you can get a 10 second cutscene about the plot. only good thing it has going for it is the writing is really charming and the voice acting is good

He turned him into a dark eco science experiment the minute he landed in the future. There wouldn’t be many other words to say about someone who tortured you for so long.
The scene at 44:07 has so much foreshadowing. The crocadog only liking Jak and his older self, daxter's smile when Kor points out that they get along so well, and Kor getting offended when Daxter recalls how ugly he looks in his Metal form
The foreshadowing for Kor is honestly amazing. The whole game is filled with little details that point to it being him, and you barely notice most of them until AFTER the fact. It's brilliant writing. I didn't suspect anything until Mar's tomb where he whispers in a sinister way that he always dreamed of having the precursor stone. That's what tipped me off.
1:18:38 "I've been building a replica of our crashed Rift Rider machine from old artefacts." "That's my girl!" "But I'm still missing two pieces" "Figures..." This game truly is full of surprises. There are so many little things here and there, all of Daxter's adult humor, a little fourth wall break here/while also dissing your daughter. My favorite series to this day!
Fun Fact: Anyone notice when Jak speaks, his pupils become very small. A small detail to show that he is no longer the wide-eyed hero from the first game, but a tainted and stressed anti-hero.
Nice attention to detail. However, his pupils return to normal in the following cutscenes if you look closely. Your not wrong though, because on one of The Baron's Announcement things he says that the Dark Eco will eventually drive Jak insane before killing him. His pupils getting small is essentially a nod to Jak's Anger Issues/Insanity from the Dark Eco Experiments.
Damn straight! These two have been best friends for years! This is basically a besties moment! Not to mention Daxter’s insane loyalty to Jak. He’s searched for him for 2 YEARS!!! He even stayed with him when Jak was banished to the wasteland! If that’s not true friendship then I don’t know what is.

22:01 I love how Kiera never recognized it was Jak at first because, she never heard him talk until now either. I also loved how Jak was getting an easy turn on just from her silhouette even though he never knew it was her either. 🤣
These were the kinds of plot I loved. The amount of quality voice actors, voice direction, ANIMATIONS (this was the PS2!) and just such a perfect balance between seriousness and comedy!
Just rewatching all the cutscenes of this game makes my inner childhood within myself tear up and cry. I forgot how funny this game was. How well scripted the story and dialogue was. If they create another remake of this masterpiece I am for sure making a purchase.
They couldn't because naughty dog had/has the full control of whatever Jak and daxter game is to come so Sony had to use the old one and make it pretty much a backwards compatible game

@@Welshy It's not an HD remake, it's an HD remaster. The only thing the HD remaster did was up the resolution, add some anti aliasing/texture filtering, and upped the frame rate to 60 FPS. But yeah it probably doesn't look as good on native PS2 hardware, but it certainly aged a lot better than many other PS2 games.
Jak & Daxter (bar having fun gameplay) has such a rich lore & atmosphere especially Jak 2. Such colorful characters and an amazing soundtrack, could literally be it's own series. Criminally underrated even when it's so loved by fans, it's that good. Absolute tragedy that Jak 4 never happened, such a waste.

I never realized they totally play the death sound when Jak gets knocked out by the Krimzon Guards in the opening. It really was the death of Jak as he was in the first game.

Idk but sometimes Samos sounds like he already knew about the whole future and Jaks purpose. In the beginning he says so this is how it happened. And he also yells “Find yourself Jak during the time portal scene”
Jacks first words define his character pretty much I always saw him as a bit of an anti hero in this and later games I always loved that about him especially this epic line in Jak X
That’s certainly one way to show the previously silent character can talk now. It’s also the moment I went “I already like this more than Jak and Daxter 1.”
I can’t believe I never noticed that Jak’s look in this game (primarily Dark Jak) was meant to resemble Gul from Precursor Legacy. It seems the original idea was for him to be conflicted with becoming the antagonist he once defeated. Subsequent the influence of GTA changed molded the story to what we know it to be today.
I heard a recent source that the new created PlayStation studio in San Diego is working on a Jak & Daxter reboot for PS5 and Mark Cerny is involved. This could explain why they hired two people from Dreamworks Animation in 2018 and ex Naughty Dog employees. It's a bombshell along with GOW sequel.
god of war 4 is coming to pc, for jak and daxter i dont know anything, though you can emulate the games with pcsx2, but you have to configure the hacks and overclocks well due to the ps2 multi-cpu architecture being an pain to work with

I think the other smol sign he was suspicious was when Daxter called the metal head leader ugly and Kor sounded insulted. He insulted the leader of the metal heads to his face.
"I've seen what Metal Heads do when they take a city. The destruction, the killing the devouring." "During my travels in the deep Wasteland I saw some of the bigger ones (Metal Heads)." "There's word from the Wasteland that Metal Head armies are on the move again." "Omen says your (Kor) voice sounds very familiar." "You saw the Metal Head Leader?!?!" Plus, every mission he sent you on was targeting Praxis never the Metal Heads.
This story was the best of the franchise and my favorite as well. It's also my favorite game of the franchise as well. And probably my favorite platformer.
They also look fantastic compared to anything else on more powerful platforms like Xbox or high end PCs. Even cutting edge PC games at the time like Half Life 2 had a lower poly count per character than Jak 2 and Jak 3 cutscene models.
I only beat this game once. It's honestly a masterpiece. They don't make games like these anymore. I miss the early 2000s Edit: I just bought a PS4 and the Jak and Dax bundle. Thanks for the likes btw.

Funny to see Jaks personality change through the series, in 2 he starts off angry but still has that childish side to him from the first game, in 3 he balances out by the end probably due to having both light and dark powers, in X he's a well rounded indestructible stone cold fearless badass with only a care for his closest friends
This game franchise is amazing. The whole series. I love how this takes a darker tone than the first. Max Casella is hilarious as the comedic relief of Daxter! The characters are very interesting, and there’s a lot of clues to who the “big bad” really is in this game. If you look at Kor’s outfit/headpiece, his comment about his “aching bones” and quick glances he gives at times…
For years I always wondered why people were saying Jak got too edgy in Jak 2...But I mean cmon, wouldn't you also be pissed off if you were tortured for 2 years straight with dark eco? Thankfully he does mellow out by Jak 3.

Samos started remembering right before they entered the rift.

This game is an absolute masterpiece, also perfectly encapsulates early 00’s much better and simpler times. They don’t make games like this anymore.

My favorite part about this game is how everyone has kinda realistic voices and Daxter is like "MEESKA MOOSKA MICKEY MOUSE"
To be fair, the only way to sound like Torn is to chainsmoke 3 packs a day.
Even the short scenes with no talking like 20:30 are entertaining. Daxter always manages to steal the scene too.😁

I can’t believe I never noticed that Jak’s look in this game (primarily Dark Jak) was meant to resemble Gul from Precursor Legacy. It seems the original idea was for him to be conflicted with becoming the antagonist he once defeated. Subsequent the influence of GTA changed molded the story to what we know it to be today.

I heard a recent source that the new created PlayStation studio in San Diego is working on a Jak & Daxter reboot for PS5 and Mark Cerny is involved.
This could explain why they hired two people from Dreamworks Animation in 2018 and ex Naughty Dog employees.

god of war 4 is coming to pc, for jak and daxter i dont know anything, though you can emulate the games with pcsx2, but you have to configure the hacks and overclocks well due to the ps2 multi-cpu architecture being an pain to work with

Goddamn I never realized just how good the facial animation is in this game, and the models look fantastic for PS2
They also look fantastic compared to anything else on more powerful platforms like Xbox or high end PCs. Even cutting edge PC games at the time like Half Life 2 had a lower poly count per character than Jak 2 and Jak 3 cutscene models.
I only beat this game once. It's honestly a masterpiece. They don't make games like these anymore. I miss the early 2000s

Funny to see Jaks personality change through the series, in 2 he starts off angry but still has that childish side to him from the first game, in 3 he balances out by the end probably due to having both light and dark powers, in X he's a well rounded indestructible stone cold fearless badass with only a care for his closest friends
This game franchise is amazing. The whole series. I love how this takes a darker tone than the first. Max Casella is hilarious as the comedic relief of Daxter! The characters are very interesting, and there’s a lot of clues to who the “big bad” really is in this game. If you look at Kor’s outfit/headpiece, his comment about his “aching bones” and quick glances he gives at times…
