Would be very interested to hear how these are compared to the Emotiva GR-1. Both are open back 50mm dynamic driver headphones in the same price range and both are meant to have top tier dynamics yet a warm sound signature overall. And both have slightly futuristic driver technologies (graphene in the Emotiva vs beryllium in the HarmincDyne). Could you compare them?
**EARPAD ROLLING** Dekoni Just had a B-stock sale for Beyerdynamic DT pads, which fit the Zeus, so I purchased three pairs, so that I could experiment with pad rolling them. I got the CHOICE LEATHER (Boomy/bloated bass that overwhelms the mids and highs [EWW]), ELITE HYBRID (nice tight, boosted bass with improved clarity over stock pads [Bass Head]), and the ELITE FENESTRATED (reduced mid and upper bass, but tighter, with airier treble and wider soundstage [Neutral/Balanced]). All three Dekoni pads removed the mids veil, pulling the sing closer to you, but reveling details that were previously hidden, with the stock pads. This same tuning effect can also be achieved with the stock pads, using Resolves' EQ settings that he provides. The stock pads are more comfortable than the Dekoni pads, but that isn't to say that the Dekoni pads are uncomfortable, it's just that the stock pads are that comfortable. DISCLAIMER: inToit Reviews just verified in his review, that my source, an ifi zen dac, boxes in the soundstage of this headphone. So this could very well be skewing my findings.
I would like to see the frequency response included. I dont think providing its own video and discussion would be worth it but referencing it when talking about the audio especially if it covers the mic from using a wider lens wouldve been a great idea
thank you for the video, I guess these headphones sound like a good value for my collection - I mostly have neutral headphones. What headphone is your GF using for mixing? It’s nice to see you are so comfortable around each other.
Ha, funny that you mention the sound in CP2077. I've made a very similar comment in regards to the immersion of the game related to it's sound. I got shredded on Reddit for it lol. I've been using the game to test out some different IEMs that I got over the holidays, CCA CA12, TRN V90, and today my Tape Pro came in. I still have some playing around to do with the Tape Pro.
Im curious DMS, I know that you love Focal Elex soo much and likes Sundara too... Do you still prefer the Elex between these 3? You said that the HD Zeus has a nice and punchy dynamics, how much this lose (or win) comparing to the Elex? The Elex costs twice more, is it worth? Considering that for every 4 reviews about the Elex, 1 of them got a defective product and in my case i would not be able to perform a RMA. Between these HD Zeus, Elex and Sundara, which one should i get knowing that i listen to literally every type of music, watch a lot of movies and play a lot of games? i want the best All-rounder of these 3 and i dont want my main headphone with a "thin analytical" type of sound, i want something more intimate where the vocals appears to be in the middle-front of the soundstage, or at least not split between the sides with a blur on the middle of it. I was thinking on get the HD Zeus to be my main headphones, a Grado sr80e for rock and a he400i 2020 for something more clinical, or use all the money for the Focal Elex only, what do you think? Sorry for bothering!
I had the exact same question. With both DMS and Z (and many others) raving about it I finally ordered the Elex when its price dropped on BF. The Sundaras were the next on my 'someday' list, but now this review makes me reconsider that.
I would say having owned a Ananda that the sundara is probably quite thin because it doesn't have a warmth "hump" that most dynamic headphones tend to have. This is the only reason i returned my Ananda because it made it seem brighter then it actually was.
I own the Sundara. I run the dt1990 through the Little Dot MK2 (after rolling a bunch) and it really is everything I want out of a headphone! Ambience detail and the speed of the bass is pure quality.
The only thing stopping me from buying these right now is how they look. I don't hate the actual build, but that silver really kills it for me, reminds me of those really cheap and gimmicky headphones you find at Walgreens lol.
@@ShayzerCo Yes sir. They are everything as described in this video. Warm, very spacious, imaging is great. Soundstage is outstanding. I've had this for about a month and I still find myself taking them off to see if it was the music/game/movie I was watching or if it was something outside my room. The lows hit, mids are great and the highs are perfect for my taste. Perfect? No...Close to perfect? yes. These are my endgame.
@@ed_boogie Okey ! Thanks for the reply ! And what type of music do you listen? Also, how they feel in the hand (cheap,ok,good)? Because i know there is some QC issues
@@ShayzerCo I listen to pretty much everything. These headphones sound good with everything I threw at it, but for me it really stands out when I listen to music that have some lows (lofi, pop, hip hop, kpop, edm) and tracks that have acoustics. Also the vocals on these are no slouch. Billie Eilish tracks were very enjoyable. As for build quality. I think they are pretty solid and they feel premium, but I did have an issue with mine where the swivel joint were too close on the left earcup and it would squeak when it rotated because both sides would rub up on each other. It didn't affect the headphones when i was listening to them, but it would only squeak when they were off my head. Fortunately It eventually went away. They are also not the lightest headphones that I own so after several hours of having them on I can feel it. Also they sent me the wrong cable. In terms of sound its everything I want, but sound is so subjective. I think what really set these headphones apart from others that I have listened to is how immersive they can be.
DMS, I have hearing loss and would like your opinion on good headphones. My left ear has retained most of my hearing, my right ear only picks up enough sound which enables me to retain situational awareness. I'm not a fan of earphones because I feel I'm missing out on too much. Would the HD ZUES be a nice option?
I had the HD580 so I can say it kind of. They have a bigger soundstage, not K702 level. Lower mids kind of sound a bit draining so I just EQd that down a bit, otherwise pretty clean response. Bass is slower than HD580 and not as technical impressive. General detail in HD580 is higher but not my much. Imaging is much better though on HD580. They do sound more musical than the HD580 though which I like. Do with that what you want, I did not find them too impressive though. For detailed music listening I'd get the HD600 and for music enjoyment I use my K702 and I feel these are somewhere in the middle, not good on either side but do both things.
Is there a review coming of the GoldPlanar GL2000 *dual magnet edition)? very curious how they compare. and which would be more suitable for instrumental Jazz and Classical music. (in your opinion). If you like a more reference sound with linear flat bass you would probably like the now discontinued Pioneer SE Monitor 5. Also has amazing build quality.
Now I dont know what to buy...dt 1990 pro for 340eur....sundara for 350eur or these for 280eur?Whats your recomendation for all around headphones...got hd 660s and 1more over ear..and the 1more lack midrange but for 95eur are a banger.Would you rather buy Zeus or dt 1990 pro?
I have a pair of DT 1990 Pros and his review of these more or less matches my experience with the 1990. Sounds to me like the 1990 and Zeus go blow-for-blow on the sound side of things. I think the 1990 have better build quality, based on what I saw here. Honestly I don't think either would be the wrong choice.
Just a small heads up, I'm not sure if what you were sent was different, but I just got my Zeus in and the cable I have is entirely different, I have a cable with translucent shielding and copper going all the way down that terminates in pentacon, no screws on the cable to be found. Thanks for this review btw, it encouraged me to purchase them and these have really wowed me.
Hey man The Slate VSX Modeling Headphones are the biggest innovation in headphone tech for decades. You've got to review them! The sub bass tech alone is worth it, but the modeling is out of this world
The headphone itself is a chinese OEM I'm familiar with (a few other very cheap headphones use the same driver and housing). The interesting part is the software that makes it work but they don't send out review units. I'll have to buy one to try it.
@@MonkeyBars1 same spec, same chassis (the OEM offers custom branding), same driver tech, and they even use the same marketing materials and images provided by the OEM. The product is the software really.
Perhaps they used it as a starting point. Certainly at least for the sub bass driver port that they claim to have invented especially for these headphones there would need to be custom work done
@@MonkeyBars1 there are a few extra holes in the VSX baffle compared to the other from that same OEM. That said, the other headphone is $129. Given that they seem to send these to small channels, have a zero audio-review channels policy, and don’t actually manufacture their own headphone, I’m led to believe they likely have low confidence in the product or know it wouldn’t hold up when tested. I would like to check it out at some point if I can get my hands on one though. There’s always a chance it could be cool.

The hd800 is accurate and I love mine for classical music. I do notice it's light on bass but for instrumental music it's not a big deal. The hd800S improves a bit of bass but it's not head thumping. The trade off is the detail dipping just a hair. Im curious about these zeus too.. 🤔
@@ryant169 right? It's great for my orchestral stuff like Halo 3 OST or some anime osts but when I switch over to some more bass present tracks... The Zeus gets me interested
@@aerternaeaerumna5158 there are some tried and try tubes that will get the job done in the bass department. For new production 6922 JJ tesla is massive in the bass department, bit muted from lower treble on though. Really cheap tube. Just do your research and you get the bass you're looking for on your budget. Also, I have no experience with the Vali 2(+) but sbaf has noted the original Vali 2 might be a better fit for the hd800. @@electr0pvnch The Zeus is better tuned and has a less "thin" sound. Many people dont realise that planars have very flat and pretty dull impact in the bass because its just a straight line and not humped. This makes all the difference in the world.
I just upgraded, bought the Focal Clear and replaced my Elear. They are amazing for music, really incredible. But not that much fun for gaming and movies. Also, rather small intimate soundstage. Saw this video and man, sounds like the Zeus are the perfect headphones as an addition to the Clear. So I ordered the Zeus today. Welp. Wallet am I cry.
@@eman122688 I really appreciate the Zeus, use them for movies and games. They have a good, wide stage, which makes them a lot of fun for that purpose. Very comfortable and enjoyable. Even if you use it for music, they are very good for that price. Obviously not comparable to the Focal Clear, but they are one of the best in existence and cost way more.
I was thinking about getting headphones just for gaming with really good soundstage and base is good for gaming too. Would these be the best ones to get or would you recommend another set of headphones? Right now I have the Sennheiser 560s and I like them with the magni modi sac and amp. Would upgrading to these be a big improvement just for gaming?
Sooo hype for $350. I was thinking of Amanda's! I really want a classical music headphones Esp Beethoven Symphony No 9. So these, or pony up for Amanda's?? Thoughts?
definitely ananda. This has a bloated mid-bass, which isn't ideal for classical music. The ananda also has 3D effect which adds to the experience for symphony.
Depends what kind of music you listen to. Hd800(s) is great with acoustic stuff. Most other music is lackluster. Hd650 with tubes sounds great with pretty much everything genre
So I am entering the market for some higher end headphones. I already own the Sony 1000xm3. To which I saw your previous video about the Airpods Max being the best of the worst. Which has given me caution to purchasing them. I am wondering what would be the best sounding headphone for soundstage and quality. It certainly appears as if the ZEUS would fit that bill. I just do not have an amp. Any advice for entering this market?
Dangerous question because “the best” easily gets you into the multi-thousand dollar range lol. The Zeus is great for its price. It works without an amp but I do recommend Atleast a cheap one down the road because it does help.
@@DMS3TV I appreciate the response. I do understand "the best" can turn into crazy money. I just have no idea what I am getting myself into. But seriously considering your suggestion of the Zeus and the L30. My budget I am looking at is sub $600 which is what the Airpods Max would be after tax. My primary reason for wanting the APM was for increased sound quality. But if the difference is minimal I would prefer to go the Zeus route or other headphone. Thank you again for your input. It is much appreciated. Ill keep looking around on your channel. Good stuff
@DMS You really need to get yourself a Xduoo TA-20, hybrid and balanced... Also, how these compare to something like Philips X2HR which had a similar price at launch.

And both have slightly futuristic driver technologies (graphene in the Emotiva vs beryllium in the HarmincDyne). Could you compare them?
**EARPAD ROLLING**
Dekoni Just had a B-stock sale for Beyerdynamic DT pads, which fit the Zeus, so I purchased three pairs, so that I could experiment with pad rolling them.
DISCLAIMER:
inToit Reviews just verified in his review, that my source, an ifi zen dac, boxes in the soundstage of this headphone. So this could very well be skewing my findings.
3:00 sound review
Great video! #MomApproved ❤️
Adorable
so cute
I would like to see the frequency response included. I dont think providing its own video and discussion would be worth it but referencing it when talking about the audio especially if it covers the mic from using a wider lens wouldve been a great idea
thank you for the video, I guess these headphones sound like a good value for my collection - I mostly have neutral headphones.
What headphone is your GF using for mixing? It’s nice to see you are so comfortable around each other.
She's using AKG K371
And while its driver is technically more capable than the Zeus, it's lacking in far too many areas: too much clamp, small earpads ear openings, very forward sounding with a unnaturally-wide soundstage, not enough sub-bass or treble for most music. Once these faults are rectified (with a pad-swap, bending the metal headband, and ifi's Signature 6XX amplifier), the Sundara is a truly an amazing listen. Or you could just get the Zeus and enjoy it right out of its (fancy, earthquake-proof) box.
@@mattrismatt dang - that's a compelling comment. Guess I need to put the Zeus up to the top of my next list.
@@redstang5150 Sounds like a wise choice. I surely don't need another headphone, but I'm tempted, as well.
I am enjoying Cyberpunk 2077 with my DT 1990 Pro, too. It`s awesome.
Those headphones are phenomenal for ambience-rich content I've found. I love them.
@@TheKazragore Yeah, i love them too.
How would you say these are for gaming vs the sennheiser 38x?
When your so early, the upload time is 15 seconds ago🤯
If this was to be slotted on your tier list today where would it be?

Sounds like the only headphones I need...?
I broke and ordered them. 😅
Did you get them?
@@ed_boogie Thank you for the little review, i might buy them, for the cable i think that HarmonicDyne have upgraded there cable :)
Has anyone compared these to the HD600s? Really curious..
For detailed music listening I'd get the HD600 and for music enjoyment I use my K702 and I feel these are somewhere in the middle, not good on either side but do both things.
from what I've read, it is wider and punchier
Is there a review coming of the GoldPlanar GL2000 *dual magnet edition)? very curious how they compare. and which would be more suitable for instrumental Jazz and Classical music. (in your opinion). Please let me know, as i will hold off buying until you've reviewed the GoldPlanar GL2000. Thanks my friend! :-)
I love classical music (among other stuff) so these sound like they'd be awesome. I already have sundaras though and I think I want to upgrade my amp/dac before getting more headphones. Currently have a topping a30/d30.
If you hda to keep one sundaras or zues?
@@eman122688 I don't own the zeus. Was saying I'm tempted to get them but will most likely upgrade my dac/amp instead.
@@jwest88 oh sorrys was late when I read this lol. I got the ifi can as an amp for the sundara. But not sure wich headphone to buy now. supposedly it will help the bass of the sundara . I heard it was the perfect match. Good luck on ur amp and dac : )
LOL, Spot on analogy and you came to my exact conclusion.
Nice. Looks like a good companion with the 6xx I want.
I bought these as my first hifi headphones at Zeos’s recommendation. Thanks for confirming my purchase 👌🏻
Would you recommend this as an upgrade from Sundara or would it be a side grade?

Hi DMS ! Can you help me ?
I very curious ... I listen music via 6.35mm headphone output of modern Onkyo Receiver (tx-nr767e) It has not "special circuit" for headphone output - uses the same circuit as for loudspeakers ... Should I buy iFi ZenDac (Balanced) for HarmonicDyne Zeus ?
I would like to know how far the bass extends, and if the bass extension can be EQ'ed up without distortion.
I would like to know this as well. I do have other beryllium headphones that can eq like crazy without distorting. These being beryllium they should eq well but I do not own these exact headphones.... not yet.
Mine arrived last week, so I can tell you they did change the cable. It's still a bit stiff, but overall nicer.
unusually giddy about the aspect ratio here and the fact that it fills the theater mode player perfectly
I might have to pick these up after I recover from buying the elac debuts 😂 would you think these would pair well with a topping E30 and a liquid spark amplifier? and also have u tried getting an external monitor for your camera so you can see what's in shot i literally didn't notice it till I read the text but just a suggestion I suppose
Really like the new lens! Make the video looks like movie.
If headphones are "fun-sounding", is it possible to EQ them to make them neutral? Or will proper neutral headphones still sound more flat?
It would take so much effort that it would be easier to just buy the neutral headphone.
@@Jordonater Interesting. I was just wondering because DMS said that these headphones have a very wide soundstage and detail retrieval well above its price range. I figured it might be worth it to EQ them.
@@ssg2991 I guess it could be for that reason you have a good point. I just personally couldn't be arsed to do it but im not saying you shouldn't do it after all im pretty useless at EQ when i tried it once but i dont bother now.
What's the aspect ratio? Very cinematic, looks nice
Idk what it is exactly, but my phone in landscape mode fully fills up the video, the aspect ratio of my phone is 19.5:9
Edit: it doesn't fully fill it but it's super close to doing that
Probably 21:9
Not an exact standard 😅 just wanted to try 3840x1700 and see how it looked. Might try a few in that region.
Can we get a tube rolling tutorial along with that dark voice
does anybody know what kind of acoustic panels those are in his room?
If you like a more reference sound with linear flat bass you would probably like the now discontinued Pioneer SE Monitor 5. Also has amazing build quality.
Anyone know how these go up against the HD 6XX. Would it be a good replacement?
These definitely seem like a more fun headphone. Dt1990 for me was at its core, a technical headphone, though I also preferred analytical pads
They switched to the cable you have a couple months ago. Much more pliable and manageable.
Hey man
The Slate VSX Modeling Headphones are the biggest innovation in headphone tech for decades.
@@DMS3TV On gearslutz they claim this rumor is false...
I've ordered these to replace my AQ NightHawks. I really hope they don't suck.
Thanks for your review. Please, may I ask some honest advise... if money is no object, ZEUS or Focal Clear ?
They are the perfect combination. Do it like I did. Buy both.
How do they compare against the pc38x for gaming?!
Thanks for the review! How would you consider these vs the HD800? I have the HD800, but I sometimes find the lack of lowend, well, lacking
Why not plug them into a tube amp or use EQ?
@@dannybos7024 have a schiit Vali 2+ on the way to test it out but I'm not so sure it'll do much since tube rolling can cost so much. I don't like to EQ. I prefer to get the headphone in stock sound sig
I don't like to take any forum's word as gospel, but if the amp doesn't work, out try the used market!

Would this be a sustantial upgrade over the he400i 2020?
Ngl, kinda like the framing the mic gives
I guess the base model was Yoga (Yo-Tronics) | CD-2500, but they made it open back.
Hi DMS, is the Zeus have better soundstage than the sundara?
Just got the Zeus yesterday. Space, detail as expected but the bass seems overdone and somewhat bloated (compared to HE4xx, AKG 702). Is this normal or did I get a bad one?
Should I buy this or the sundara?
Maybe!
Yes

I just upgraded, bought the Focal Clear and replaced my Elear. They are amazing for music, really incredible. But not that much fun for gaming and movies. Also, rather small intimate soundstage. Hello DMS!

Should i buy the Sennheiser HD650 or buy a better one, like the 800S?

Good stuff
Is this your first 21:9 video?? either that or ive never noticed. Anyways looks great!
