2 years later...Just found your channel. So, when I was about 13-14 (20+ years ago, I guess) years old, I went to a survival camp, and we had a land-nav course. We were given some brief education on compasses, maps, landmarks, and shelters. Long story short...my partner and myself got way off-course from the course. We used the skills we were taught about compasses and maps and navigation to find our way back. To be arrogant, we used those skills we learned in a real life situation, and met our search party that was looking for us. What I'm trying to say is: Learn to read maps and use a compass. GPS systems can go down. When SHTF, what are you gonna do?

You had the skills before you went off course, though? 😂

I have been using my map and compass for years. I have watched all of your map, compass and land navigation videos this week. I have watched many others as well. Your videos have clarified and helped me to the point that I no longer need a GPS. I hunt Southern California mountains where there is not much game, except for private land. I just like to get out and scout hike to find deer trails. Then travel back at night to my chosen site and wait for the sun to come up. I haven't been lost yet. I think your videos are the best training I have ever seen or watched. I subscribed to your channel and will follow you, I am a 71-year-old US Army vet, but most of my friends are jarhead Marines. That just goes to show that I can even learn from a jarhead. Thanks, Brother.

I remember that pink 19 tag very well. My partner and I were the last pair out that night of our basic class at around 11:00 pm. We debated at length whether it was a 19 or (read upside down) a 61. We settled on 61 and spent a lot of time exploring Dave’s property after dark! (We suggested a line underscoring the bearing would be helpful.). We eventually used the pipeline as a backstop and handrail to make our way back to camp. It was raining the whole weekend, too. It was an awesome weekend! Really! :-)

I realise this video was made a few years ago. I watched it then & I'm watching it now. Very good stuff. One thing kept scratching at the back of my mind/memory that I couldn't place. I've got it now. You have a definite Jim Belushi vibe & tone of voice @ 3:30 min. Almost a John Belushi Blues Brothers vibe (especially with the shades) but absolutely a Jim Belushi vibe which is better because he's a little taller, slenderer, fitter, better looking than his older brother & still alive. ; )
Carry on mate. Been following you for several years & find myself rewatching many of your videos. Lots of knowledge & experience here for the taking for those willing to learn. Cheers from Canada.

One thing you have to know about Irish Setters before buying is to have your shoe department associate measure your foot and make sure your heel fits the boot correctly.
Some of their boots have a wide heel counter/shelf.
I was fitted improperly and my upland boots caused a muscle tear in my heel.
Red Wing sewed a couple layers into my boot and never had an issue again.
Great boots. Love my Danners as well.

Nice video on land navigation; not always a clearly presented subject. Also, depending on how rough/muddy the land, Indian moccasins cant be beat for not giving you blisters etc.. I have easily done 8 miles on a sand beach, and they are the only footwear that adapts to everything comfortably with no band-aids required, both wet and dry.
