Excellent video? Just replaced my burnt out, 6 month old Rigid planer with a 735x. Have looked at several videos and this is by far the most informative for a first timer. Particularly liked your comments on snipe. I found by leaving tables as is, out of the box, ends are slightly tipped up, consistent with your comments on lifting in and out. And yes, as my old shop teacher explained many years ago, minimal cut depth, nice and slow. Better outcome, easier on the equipment. Very thorough, complete and easy to follow and understand. Thank you!
We recently lumbered a 36" maple, a 36" white ash, and a 32" pecan. After drying, we tried planing with a Rigid (Home Depot) 13" planer with 2 HSS knives th-cam.com/users/postUgkxIzvvTi3_Qc8JnVdYYRJCvuoDC4QjTzeL . This job was clearly too much for that machine. The pecan was particularly difficult, due to heavy mineral deposits, and a sharp pair of HSS knives would be consumed by a mere 3 boards. We were also having lots of problems from chip bruising, due to poor dust collection. The shavings came off like straw and jammed in the 4" hose.We bought the DW735 simply to be able to run carbide blades, which worked brilliantly for the pecan. However, we found it to be a much, MUCH nicer machine. It was far more rigid than the "Rigid" planer, and far more accurate as well. But what I liked most about it was the dust feed. This machine has its own blower, which shreds the "straw" like shavings as they come off the cutting head and helps boost the shavings into the dust collection system. No more clogs! It's also nicely sealed so that the internals stay quite clean. This is just a well tempered machine that's a delight to use. It literally cut the labor in half. Just another example of getting what you pay for.
My new Dewalt 735X Planer arrived today. I put it on a WEN stand with adjustable extension rollers on each end. I then used some carnauba wax on the bed of the planer.
You did an outstanding job with this instructional video. I just go my 735 yesterday and cannot wait to use it. A label mic would help immensely. I'll have to check your other vids. Thanks for making it.
Hi very nice presentation. I have a 13 inch dewalt thickness planer. Let’s say I have three pieces of 2X4 and each one them is 2-7/16 , 2-3/8, and 2-5/16 how do I make all three of them being 2-5/16 without manually measuring them. I appreciate your input. Thanks
dude, was there anything you had to do before running it for the first time? I set the the blade the proper height but its just not excepting the wood no matter how i raise or lower the blade. Am i missing something or did i just get a crappy model?
Confusing. In the first 2 minutes you say that it cannot correct for cups, in the last 2 minutes you say it can. Can you clarify this for me please? Sry for my confusion
Mike you must be a shop teacher, very good tutorial. I had a very good "shop teacher". I would think "IS HE OLDER THAN THE BRISTLECONE PINE?" Me tinks he was.
Moshe Angyalfi it just makes it so once you reach the shown depth on the left you can’t drop the planer down anymore. It acts as a stop or a stop block.
sir can't you put stics on both sides of the wood you want to plane front an back with double sided tape to stop the snipe please answer sir just a thought thank you sir
I just bought mine!! But while my planks go through, the wood chips just accumulate all around the wood and it doesnt seem to go up into the dust extractor. Its driving me nuts. Why do you think its doing this ?
Probably jamming up at the blower. What’s your dust collection look like? Best to just have something to collect the chips out of the blower. It can also jam if the chips get too large.
saw in another video that they help prevent snipe. For those that haven't bought a unit yet, the DW735X comes with the shelves and an extra set of knives
I just received my 735 and I chose it after researching and reviews. It arrived with right rear corner of the base cracked and the handle is very hard to turn. Bought it from Home Depot online and paid more than what a 735X cost. Returning it for sure but has anyone had any issue with the handle being hard to turn when you first got it????
I was able to use a borrowed planer for the first time (without any issues) after watching this great video. I didn’t even get a tutorial from my friend because he was at work. Now, I need my own planer.
MakeHaven... How do you feel about passing wood with epoxy/resin through this planer? Do you think the knives could handle the epoxy/resin? Would the epoxy/resin gum-up the planer to much?
Sorry but the explanation about the speed is incorrect. In position one is 179 cuts per inches and in position 2 is 96 cuts per inches. Therefore it should rotate faster in position 1. position one should be use for fine cuts. The surface will be smoother. Position two is for rough cuts basically use when you like to take bigger chunks while dimensioning lumber.
Dude the first 4-1/2” minutes all we can hear is equipment running. When this occurs, before recording: 1) Wait for the equipment to stop running. 2) Turn off the equipment making the background noise.
Learn how to use the tool before using it. This planer has awesome reviews no matter where you look...then it’s your comment , what does that tell you?
Agree with Steve, this is one of the top rated bench top planers out there. Regardless of what you experienced, and whether you did something wrong or you got a lemon, go with statistics, get it replaced, watch a bunch of these videos and enjoy!
Would have could have been a great video had there not been the annoying noise and background echoing of that large room. Being hard of hearing the echoing was just overwhelming.

This was simply great. You got to the point and provided EXCELLENT information. THANK YOU

total nub here and i just recently bought this planer. your video is exactly what i needed to see to properly use this machine. thank you for this.
Clear, concise, no over talking. Thx
Very good instructions, very detailed. Ordered a 735x yesterday. Thanks for your help 😊

Thank you for making this video!!
Genuine style of presentation. Refreshing.
Thanks for the video. All free knowledge is good knowledge!
The video was very helpful. I have purchased the same unit. Please share the dimensions for your planer stand. Thx!
Love it - very straightforward and clear.
Awesome tips. I’m just about to fire this up for the first time. I appreciate this. Subscribed.

Nice shirt! I took one of their EMT classes!
Awesome instruction and demonstration. Thank you sir!
Wow! Great video. Thank you. So well explained
Confusing.

Sry for my confusion
Approximately, how many 8' 2x4's can you plane before you have to replace the blades?
Mike you must be a shop teacher, very good tutorial. I had a very good "shop teacher". I would think "IS HE OLDER THAN THE BRISTLECONE PINE?" Me tinks he was.
How did you know that I had a magnet and a cup of wax on my wall? This is matrix level video.
Thanks for this. Can you explain the dial on the far left? How does that differentiate from the wheel on the right that sets the depth?
Moshe Angyalfi it just makes it so once you reach the shown depth on the left you can’t drop the planer down anymore. It acts as a stop or a stop block.
shouldnt you have had it on speed 2 for dimensioning if it had low spots?
Good morning please ghana where can I get some of your tools to buy
You can avoid snipe by adjusting the in feed and out feed tables… good video
sir can't you put stics on both sides of the wood you want to plane front an back with double sided tape to stop the snipe please answer sir just a thought thank you sir

Lots of good information. Thank you.
is there anywhere lock for height ? My handle is moving
Great info, thank you!
The way you stand at the beginning, you remind me of Forest Gump, lol
Do I really need the extensions to feed the wood? Just bought one so no experience thank you

Sounds like you got a broken one to me. I hope you were able to return it
@@108mmbb yep I did return it and got a new one. Love the tool
This was the explanation of snipe, and how to avoid on the fly, that I have yet to come across.
Great video and explanation.
Very helpful. Thanks!
**S4S means surfaced on four sides, not square
What about the knob on the side of your left?
Good Job on this video….
That's how it's done!! Great tutorial!

Dont think it will be a problem. But best if you do some internet research to check that others dot warn against it.
I use epoxy, too and as long as your blades are sharp, there is no issue!
It's a breaker, not a fuse.
Appreciate the suggestions, thanks
S4S represents "surfaced" 4 sides, not "square". Just an FYI.
How much
Great vid, thanks
1:47 homie is drinking a beer at work. Sweet!
Never stand your stock on the floor or ground. If it picks up some dirt it will damage your knives leaving a raised bump on your planed wood.

Literally could just make a 3 minute video of it working.
Seriously it’s like dude just show how the fuck to use it
As expensive as this machine is... "snipe" shouldn't even exist as a problem!!
Hi there. If you are indeed a shop teacher I would like to connect with you! I myself am a shop teacher. Could we connect and talk about projects??
Video of him actually using the planer @7:10
Dude the first 4-1/2” minutes all we can hear is equipment running.
When this occurs, before recording:
1) Wait for the equipment to stop running.
2) Turn off the equipment making the background noise.
Audio is very hard to understand, wearing a mike will help. Too much background noise coming in. Content seems good.
Worst plainer ever made mine lasted 2 boards before the head drum bolt un threaded and blew the belt and shit all apart.
Learn how to use the tool before using it. This planer has awesome reviews no matter where you look...then it’s your comment , what does that tell you?
