Animals as Leaders is great! Tosin is god tier. You must check out Cyclic by Pomegranate Tiger if you want more instrumental, otherwise you must check out The Ocean. Devonian:Nascent, Triassic, The Great Dying are all great songs
Easily my favorite band ever. This is an older track, although it's only old compared to the rest of their catalogue. This song and the last one you reacted to sound nothing like their last two albums, which are better imo. Physical Education, Private Visions of the World, The Glass Bridge, Backpfeifengesicht, The Woven Web, and Lippincott are all good choices to react to, since they're not too technical and hard to get into.
He's slapping the guitar dude. When you asked what he is doing. He invented a technique that kinda combines bass playing and guitar. Dude is a genius, also got a degree in music, not sure which one
Whoa, whoa, whoa.... let's slow wayyyy down here. Don't get me wrong, I love Tosin and AAL. He's incredible. But he did not invent slapping and tapping on guitar. Regi Wooten was doing it before Tosin was even born.
@@1bulletaway Well it might not be this one but he definitely invented several techniques for sure I remember that from a workshop of his. th-cam.com/video/-LUu36SiErA/w-d-xo.html there's another one. Dude. Tosin is an innovator, but he didn't invent anything. He's said himself that the sort of guitar he was playing before he heard meshuggah for thr first time was completely different. He is just using a bass guitar technique...
Maith an Fear! Im glad y'went with this one, brotha. It has the cool componants that make Tosin so reveared in the guitar world. The initial deep riff bounces and richochets about the place like a blazing pinball, rocketing up scores and points everywhere it clatters into. The melodic action effortlessly cruises through tunnels of exciting tapping, sweeping before the money shot: Thumbing his way across the sonic highway, picking up all sorts of new grooves. Then he shovels out even deeper slabs of sonic gold till the end. All o'that whilst looking smooth, suave, suited and booted.
So now you've heard two of their oldest tracks. Time for one of the newest, I'd say ;) The Brain Dance is amazing, you won't regret it. The old stuff was very djent, now they're really a metal version of a fusion band and less show-offy, if you will.
Here are three songs I would recommend, in order of heaviness: 1. Tooth and Claw - Animals As Leaders (8 string) 2. Flesh and Metal - Mick Gordon (9 string) 3. Suneater - Fractalize (suspension bridge cable)
I knew you’d like this one, glad you got around to it. More AAL I’d recommend would be Arithmophobia, The Brain Dance, Kascade, Nephele and Tooth and Claw
I remember watching this Tobin Abasi video for the first time and being blown away. I loved the comment section, too. Most of it is about his thumb. Things like: “Alright guys! I dislocated my thumb. Now I’m ready to Djent like Tobin”. Lol!!! Love it 😂
Also, m'chara- from the same emgTV session, Tosin performs "Song of Soloman". That is totally worth a watch. The song itself is perfect for a coastal drive, or maybe to go running to. A real fresh, euphoric rushing breeze of sound to carry yerself along to.
don't let tosin absolute masterclass playing distract you from the other two! both Matt and Javier are virtuosos as well! All three are absolutely incredible and my favorites, maybe check out some of javiers solo work. my favorite of his is probably El mestizo and he has some awesome playthroughs of media noche and sedosa which are all insane!

Also, the guitarist Nick DePirro often plays an Abasi Larada 8 and has been releasing absolutely incredible solo music every month on Bandcamp that will get your blood pumping!

Btw the technique he's doing in the middle is called thumping! He has mastered it and popularized it over the past 10 years. For your next AAL check out the woven web, one of their most popular songs and he shows of the same technique
What he's doing is he's slapping the string with his thumb, then plucking with the back of his thumb plus however many fingers he needs to make the rhythm work. For example if he wants to play a triplet he just plucks with one finger, if he's playing in fours two fingers, 3 if he's playing in fives, and if he uses all four he can play 6 note with a single down and up stroke of his wrist... he makes it look so easy and as a fellow guitarist it is simultaniously infuriating and inspiring.

I will reiterate what I said on the last Meshuggah video haha, I think there is two types of djent, melodic djent (such as bands like Periphery and Tesseract), and unmelodic djent (such as bands like Meshuggah and Animals as leaders), I'm mostly partial to the melodic side of things. AAL is a little bit more melodic than Meshuggah I guess?
