    First off, I would like to congratulate you on the mcat 20 point increase. Those hard work have paid off. As an upcoming freshman who really wants to be a physician one day, will I not have enough time if I study an hour a day and almost the entire day during the weekends and holidays? As you stated that you also had to do a full time college work so I would like to make my own schedule one day since I have some time before the mcat.

    I am a fourth-year med student at an US MD school. I had a very similar score as you did (511 with 123 on CARS).
    Personally, I was very concerned about CARS because it was much lower than the other sections.
    Fortunately, I got in, but looking back, I regret not studying CARS.
    After the pandemic, both the number of applicants and the quality of applicants have increased.
    If I were you, I would be extremely concerned about CARS score,
    especially with the general upward trend in the average MCAT score for admitted students.
    Apply broadly and also consider DO schools. Your score will attract a lot of DO schools. Congratulations.

    • @bencarusomed
      @bencarusomed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your input and congrats on almost being done!! I did study CARS a lot (30 mins a day for ~60 days straight) and had very marginal improvement. I applied very broadly and i will keep everyone posted on my cycle!

  • @jaredzubin9900
    @jaredzubin9900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @bencarusomed
      @bencarusomed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! It definitely can raise concerns but you can make up for a bad subsection MCAT with other strengths in your application! I actually just received my first interview invite to a US MD school a few days ago!

    hey which bio course do you recommend really focusing a crash course on as a non bio major that would be most helpful for the exam except for biochemistry? Any other tips for this seciton. Would you say your score was due to more being good at data analysis or because of your biology background?

    • @bencarusomed
      @bencarusomed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would definitely say the most important Bio courses to take are genetics, molecular biology, and (the most important) anatomy and physiology. I am good at data analytics and and that in conjunction with my strong bio background was helpful is bio. With this being said, I have a very strong background in chem (maybe stronger than bio), and I didn't do out of the norm well of C/P. Good luck!

    • @batman-sr2px
      @batman-sr2px 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bencarusomed thanks. Was the data analytics at the level of section bank or was the real exam easier? Is it more important to understand the experimental setup in the passage or be able to read graps and charts quickly?

    • @bencarusomed
      @bencarusomed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@batman-sr2px Both. You gotta be able to understand the expirement (and what the hypothesis, independent, and dependent variables) is from your reading, be able to read graphs, and extrapolate based on the findings (like how could they have done a better experiment, or what would happen if x was removed). Good luck!

    • @batman-sr2px
      @batman-sr2px 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bencarusomed fhanks. Any pointers on how to extrapolate the findings. These are the most difficult. especially "the better experiment or modifying the experiment". I don't know how to approach these questions. Lots of answers look enticing. Is the answer always some times in the passage or you have to creatively choose the best answer based on the choices. I just don't know what approach these questions.

    • @batman-sr2px
      @batman-sr2px 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Last question. Based on my exam 2 years ago, I roughly recall a lot of interpretation of western blots and i struggled with those. There was no way I could do them without prior practice. Unfortunately those are few available in the aamc practice material and kind of straightforward. aamc material instead has more charts and graph questions. What are some pointers you can give to master about interpreting western blots that aamc really wants you to understand. Especially when they make you think about removing something or what this lane represents and it's like nowhere to be found in the passage. I vaguely recall it had like two controls so I was confused.Thanks for the help.
