I have had a lot of people ask what the webcam is that I used to film this video. For this video I used my Sony a6000 mirrorless camera (amzn.to/3scoGaG). Unfortunately, I still have not found a webcam I think is good enough to film a TH-cam video (which is what got me started going down this rabbit hole in the first place). Since filming this I have tried a few new webcams that I was ultimately not very impressed with.
I am still on a quest to find a good webcam for a decent price. I will make an update (and probably another video) after (if?) I finally find one.

I thought 💭 the same... you used a normal camera for the video. unfortunately we have to use an adapter for live streaming.

Thank you very much for this answer. The whole video I thought "Please call the webcam you are using and that's it, because the color of your skin seens to be natural..." Ok, it was no webcam. I have tried the "Aukey PC-LME 1". For people who like to sit 30 cm in front of the screen it is nice. But if the distance is 50 cm your head on the screen is only 5 cm high.

From my experience, a separate (budget) cardioid mic is better than any webcam mic. Adding a budget analog mixer makes this option even more versatile. For some 30 USD mixer + 20 USD a mic + 10 USD a mic stand = around 60 USD I got more than decent audio.

Got a great computer back in December, but the webcam is garbaaaage!! It's fuzzy, like most pre-installed cameras. Have peeked at cameras on Amazon, but as I have no idea what I'm doing, I was lost. Thanks for making this video, it helps narrow it down a lot. I don't want to shell out hundreds of dollars trying to become a youtuber if it fails and my price bracket is super low because I'm on a tight budget, (I want to spend 60 or less). I just want a quality picture. I had no idea some people were using old school cameras to record and not webcams until I researched it. It's all fascinating. Sorry, I get wordy. Appreciate your honesty. There really is no excuse for not being able to make a great webcam with 1080 res under $100. And they are prolly out there even now. Problem is we are saturated with no name models that are almost identical in build or have a lot of similarities in build. Often those cameras are manufactured by the same manufacturer but sold to other companies with their name on it. And a lot of them share the design only, but use cheaper CMOS and parts. So with that in mind, unless yo9u don't mind returning a half dozen to a dozen until you find a good one, stick with the brand names for now. You'd be returning a lot less, may be 1 to 3 instead lol

Excellent review. Lag with audio is always a no-no for video. Quality of mics on webcams is subjective. The problem is that the mic really needs to be nearer to the presenter. Hence pro's will use a separate mic and have it in shot. This avoids a lot of problems, but then you could also buy as many mics and see there is a whole lot of difference. I noticed some mics were so poor, probably because of how the housing was constructed. But if course, you have found this out for yourself. L.E.D. lights by the way are not the problem. If lighting runs on mains outlets, then you will get the 50/60 cycles humbar. Using battery L.E.D. is the solution. This is a brilliant video for those looking for webcams. Lots of webcams, action cams etc will have specifications which are not exactly true.

Thanks for the video. I chose the eMeet (also tried one you didn't include, the Raleno), and found that while both could produce decent images after some adjustments, and both worked fine in OBS, they became VERY laggy when used with either Microsoft Teams, or WebEx. Unfortunately those last 2 are the programs we use at work, so it's a deal-breaker. As you said at the beginning, it's kind of disheartening. All around, I still find the Logitech C270 best for meetings, and my son uses one for class. It's still available, and cheap. There's no tripod mount, and the field of vision is quite narrow (which can be good or bad, depending on your use-case), so I've been curious to try some other budget models, and your video was helpful.

    • @danmagoo
      @danmagoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sorry, I must explain what I discovered about Teams: Turns out, the video is laggy (with non-logitech webcams) only in the preview, or when you see your own video. (Known bug.) It will look fine to others in your meeting (probably!...although you cannot check by self-test). If you see this in Teams, you can confirm the issue by applying "blurred background" or other background effect -- and suddenly the motion is smooth, not laggy or choppy!). May not be true on all PCs, but it has been reported to Microsoft many times. As to WebEx, the Raleno, eMeet and others were smooth when I re-tested. It's a Teams issue.

I'm on my journey to find an ideal web/camera or whatever for live streaming our Dj sets and definitely "disheartening" is the best definition of how we feel about them all.

can I recommend that the next time you do a web cam (or any camera) review, please test each camera in different lighting settings, such as low light, medium, and brightness.

Thank you for this comprehensive review of popular Webcams, it was great to put the list and ; as rarely we find the list of reviewed items in TH-cam videos.

Proceeds to talk about other webcams while not mentioning what the amazing one he's using to film the video is.

Ya he states that early in the video that what he's using for the video isn't a webcam. Just a camera that doesn't stream

No mention of the Logitech Streamcam. For meetings, if the goal is to have your face in the screen and you are not interested in a lot of background, the Streamcam with Logitech Capture focuses on your face and little background. If you move around (have 2 huge screens and go from one to the other, like to lean back and put your feet up and so on) and want to always be in focus and appear to be fully active it is the only option. Also, if you want your face in the screen and don't want a lot of the background in the image, it is again the only option.

I use the C920 and it works good for what I need. Also, the Logitech software lets you select a different audio source, so I use the 920 for the video and a Logitech USB headset for the audio. Obviously, if I were going to do a professional presentation, I would not use the headphones.

Thanks I was wondering if I could use a mic along with a webcam if video was good but, sound was Not . BTW don't buy Aoozi Webcam Worked gr8 for a short time. Would turn on all the time without me doing so.

I've been completely disappointed with webcams too. Why are there no webcams as good as the cameras in my (usually pretty cheap) phones? I can buy a phone right now that barely costs more than some webcams that have far superior video with stuff like 1080 at 60 fps. Huh? It's so annoying. Good video.

I bought a C920 years ago and still have it, very happy with it. However, I decided to get the Brio because of it's fps for 720 video and 1080, and the promise of doing 4K (which I probably won't do, but nice to know I can). I did notice a difference between the two, but I agree the different is small. However, I prefer the Brio and I do love the additional options.

Yeah. I am surprised for how old the C920 is, it is still one of the better webcams you can get.

You would with all of our advances in technology that we’d have quality webcams by now. Been wanting to upgrade from my laptop’s camera, but if the webcams on the market aren’t much better, I’d rather save me money.

I find that it's not the webcam that matters, it's the audio. Invest in your audio. I have a usb audio interface, the focusrite solo that delivers 48v phantom power and sennheiser condenser e965 microphone. I use the built in webcam but when ive livestreamed people loved the silky smooth audio, seeing is one thing but hearing you is more informative.
Imo audio quality far exceeds the visual

if push came to shove, I'd have to agree the audio is indeed more important. People are way more forgiving with poor quality video then they are with bad audio!
