I'm jumping with joy to see you bringing this game to your channel Zilla! This is a great unboxing and overview of a unique game and I can see you creating a ton of stories with it. Once again, very astute and thoroughly professional comments regarding the games direction and purpose. And I completely agree this package is just perfect for solo adventures and begging for your 'game-series' treatment. Darn good show sir! :)

Agree, much more than just an unboxing

Thanks SOLO and Kili! I should have given your series a shout out for learning how to play! I'll have to remember to do that if I create a gameplay series. It looks like it would be really fun to do. :)

Thanks for the unboxing! Very conversational as always, makes it enjoyable to watch.
Looks like a great game too. Don't have much experience with Legion Games, but I've heard good things.

I think this is my first game from them. I just need to finish up the Sherman Leader series to get the main gaming table clear for new games. :) So many games, so little time. :) Thanks for stopping in!

Zilla, being a Lit guy, and having read Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" several times, I suspect the game is very faithful to Conrad's attitude in the book. The main character talks about losing one's humanity, and that the "Heart of Darkness" is not only a description of of how Africa was perceived, but also what it did to those who tried to wrest the wealth from it. The final conclusion in the book is that the "Civilizing" of the continent was a most barbaric process that stole the souls of those whose goal it was to enlighten the continent.
Done with my dissertation.😃 Great video! I might have to get this. It gives me the idea of doing a video specifically addressing the subject of two fisted solo. Hmmm.

Nice history lesson, thank you! :) A video on two-fisted solo would be cool. I bet there are lots of approaches to it, and everyone has slightly different methods.

@@ZillaBlitz I filmed a video, but the lighting is off. I'm going to try my first foray into "color grading." Wish me luck!

This looks a super fun game, looks like each time you play you'd carve out a completely different experience.

Yes, the game looks to do a really good job with creating a wide range of events and things to find and all sorts of things. I'm excited to give it a try. :)

Nice Heart of Darkness is one of my favorite books .

Thanks Matthew! I have a biography of Richard Burton (explorer, not actor) that really opened my eyes up to this slice of history. The hardships these explorers went through, and particularly when searching for the source of the Nile, was incredible.

Looks like an enjoyable narrative game. Makes me want to pop out my “ Source of the Nile” game that I haven’t played for forty years, although this game looks more exciting.

I've heard people reference Source of the Nile when talking about this game too, and mentioning similar things, that this looks like a deeper dive into the exploration theme. I'm excited to give this a shot! :)

If you are interested in a very interesting perspective - Check out GMT Conquest of Paradise, which is around the pre-colonial exploration in the Pacific Ocean (my home island included) - Very unique and interesting view of things.

another game worth checking out is "The Conquistadors" ( Compass Games )
which centers on the Americas of course......
alas another otherwise great game with big tricky colonial overtones tho !

My concern with this game is that the source material is so riddled with racism. A good read regardless ans the game could easily sort of gloss over or even redact such elements. Dunno. It is in a really grey area for me.
I wrote that before the whole review was over. It looks better than I thought

Interesting points, for sure. Your comment got me digging a bit into criticisms of the novel. I haven't read it for 25 years, so it's a bit murky in my head, and it looks like there are a fair amount of opinions on the work in both directions? Makes me want to read it again to make up my own mind. :) ~ I do think the game, however, distances itself from the darker themes of the novel, outside of the fact that you're adventures take place in a colonial time and within that framework, and of course that the game borrows the name. ~ I do think it important that as gamers we ask your hard questions, and I'm glad you brought up your thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

I read some 7 years ago. It is intense and engaging. I can accept the " truth of the nature of its time setting" I have two children of mixed race and have to be aware of the world I am helping build for thier future. I am not saying bury HoD. Just lets be aware of what it contains which by the way seems very much like what you iterated in your unboxing
eview. Also its more of a novella than a novel.

Two mixed race children here as well. Totally agree with your points, well said. :)
