Should probably use 20% layer feed
Is the horrible condition of the birds (halfway plucked alive) you picked up die to a bad male:female ratio, mites or something else?
I’ve never seen my or other people i know who raise quail have their birds missing that many feathers.
You may know that most say a 5:1 or 4:1 ratio with way more girls is best. Too many males and they hurt the ladies that can’t get away in a cage.
I hope you have more luck with the new cage and setup than you were having previously.

I know that birds molt, but what happened to their feathers? Some of them look bald. Please don't think I am criticizing, I truly don't know
They. We’re picked in and over bread. The males pull their feathers out when they try to catch them to breed

Also, they need to be on a 27 -30% game bird crumble for best egg production.

A whole farm and your keeping them on top of each other in cages? Why not make a larger walk in cage so they can live a much better life. Check out Mark at Self Sufficent Me. He does it right.

Hey just a friendly reminder that if you set non-native creatures lose to become wild again. They may not have the skills to find food and survive and they will upset the balance of the native creatures. Coturnix Quail are much larger than our native quail in the USA. They will dominate the habitat. Best of luck on your quail farm.

We just pick up our first 10 Coturnix last week and are very excited. That are now eight weeks old.
I’ve had quail for a while, they are so sweet and calm, I just love hearing them chirp! They are very easy!!

Yes, it was sickening f, I bought them like that. I got them home and put them in 28% gamebird and super charger, water supplement, sexed them and made appropriate space and within a couple weeks they were so much better!!

Yes, I feed 30% Game Bird and for treats a wild bird food, so they can forage and enjoy a little different seeds :)
they need extra light in the short days of winter
Layer feed usually has 16-18% protein. 30% is good for starting & growing chicks. Keeping them on 30% after 6wks is $$$ for no gain, except to the feed mills.
For quail a decent compromise is 22-25%.

This is so cool!! I have never had quail before. I live in the city, on 3 lots, but I want to be prepared and more self sustainable. I have been trying to set things up so I can raise quail for myself. I am so excited to get started. I think they sound like the perfect SHTF animal to raise for me. I have a mix of coturnix quail eggs incubating right now! 😁
