As proud new owner of little Jade-cuttings (never had a Jade before) - I can’t wait to check out your Jade propagation Playlist. Thanks for sharing. 👍 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Are there different varieties of Portulacaria Afra, little leaf and larger leaf? I saw a variegated one at Lowe's yesterday. I have a big collection of little and tiny bonsai pots, a challenge for deciduous and conifers. Someone else suggested this plant for little pots, like you showed.
I tried these and was not successful first try. My other jades do fine, so I will eventually try again. My favorite variety of portulacaria afra is Kaleidoscope.
Having hard time with these first year indoors. I've provided grow lights ,humidity, airflow, and temps. As far as I know I'm doing it all correct. Nothing but decline. Had fungus gnats but in week 2 of treatment. So seems to have improved in that regard. They cannot go more then a couple weeks before they look as dry as your after 5 months. I'm very frustrated. I've used light heaters and heaters everything a state of the art grow tent can offer and just decline. Any advice is appreciated. Lights about 8 to 10 in from plants temps kept 70 to 75 f 40 to 50% humidity with 14 daylight. Any advice is appreciated. Ty
it is odd. If kept dry in colder darker periods and only water well when warm and sunny, these seem unbreackable. Succulents hate wet feet and cold combo.
@@terrysavage5816 is it winter? Can't you keep them in a cool room, no lights, no heathers, no nothing? Mine overwinter in an unheated room where temps may drop to maybe 15c / 60f and they get very little to no water. I avoid getting the roots really wet.
@GrowingBonsai they show signs of underwatering the leaves are curled up like boats soft leaves they don't ever get hard like in summer. I can't water more with the fungus gnats. I'm assuming as long as I use mosquito bits tea to water I should be able to water them more. Just guessing here. Maybe a lil more light but I have quite a bit now.
from a micro cutting bought in a nursery, i thought it was dead so i planted in a larger pot and forgot. I obtained plants 50cm tall with enormous growth. it is a very generous succulent. unfortunately mine is a "cotyledon orbiculata silver peak" light blue variety that has a powder on it and is opaque, also doesn't turn wood the trunk that remains semi-hardwood and rots easily. at the seaside in an alley I saw a jade plant (as big as a calf in diameter) cut off from a pot and left on the street. I couldn't pick it up because it was on private property even if it was on the street. I was sorry to see it abandoned like that
I’m a beginner & starting with jade. Thank you for this video, it is very helpful!
You're so welcome! did you see the other ones?
How rejuvenating journeys these are for bonsai lovers !!!
Yes they are!

There different varieties, but the larger leave could have been Crassula ovata
In Madera these are used as hedges
if you ever come across an old fat beast of a trunk...

Good luck! what went wrong first time?

@GrowingBonsai i have them in a climate controlled enviroment with full spectrum grow lights. It is winter though.

Very fun video...some of mine grow much faster here in the Northeast US.....variegated grow much slower...
true, I have some of those and they are slooow. Our climate is too dark and cold here

you can always knock the door and ask?
True, but i didn't 😅@@GrowingBonsai
Why wire the plant in rather than placing some rocks on top?
wire is more secure
These videos encourage me to grow tropical species instead of temperate trees in my area which is tropical...
yes, climate zone envy is real!
Why did you cut this with a knife in lieu of scissors?
dunno. Guess i avoid stucking scissors in the ground?
It's never occurred to me to put Jade outside. Also, having watched this video, I'm thinking my Jade houseplant could became a Jade bonsai 😆
:D not everythings needs to be a bomsai!?
