For the first year it is very usefull to put all roots inside container. It could be risky that best top roots - future nebari - can dry out. Very nice find, tree has potential!
Your title should be Brutal Bonsai. Your country of residence? Hornbeam does not grow in my part of U.S., but I find it interesting as bonsai material.
