Oulton Broad brings back happy memories of childhood holidays in the sixties. I haven’t been there for about 30 years since my own children were young. We used to go on the train via Lowestoft, then reversing up to Yarmouth Southtown. I wish I could find footage of that Lowestoft - Yarmouth line which went via Corton, Hopton and Gorleston.
I always think of you when I see 755412! Last time I saw her she was working the line between Cambridge and Peterborough, that would have been August 2023. I got on her at March to Cambridge.
No idea why this appeared on my youtube feed, but it was nice to finally see what Brampton station is like. As someone who has lived on the Lowestoft-Ipswich line for almost 30 years, I have always wondered what's at Brampton whenever I hear it on announcements. Apparently there's a very angry level-crossing. Who knew?
That was brilliant as ever. I don't know why but I thought Oulton Broad South was the one with the Indian Restaurant. Of course that is Oulton Broad North. That was a very strident level crossing.
you should try cold water swimming a few times - it is great fun and very invigorating. peer-reviewed medical journals etc say it is very good for the mind and body. I just would not use any seas or rivers in England currently
Brilliant video Sarah, that is a rather angry level crossing you found lol. Also outdoor swimming pools being open in October to March? No thanks I don't think I'd swim outdoors in the cold months.
Bit of trivia knowledge Brampton station featured in an early episode of johnathon creek in fact a few areas of the village was used in the episode where the man was building the ark. 4th or 5th episode I think. They also filmed at Norwich station also.
Brampton is spread over a fair few miles. The station is actually in Brampton. The boundary is very strange. So is west hall neighbouring village. That’s spread over three areas and local history says the reason was due to the plague. Hence the village of westhall near the crossing. Is cox common. And that’s miles away from the church of westhall which has nothing near it.
Angry levelcrossing... :) Don't all levelcrossings in the UK sound like that? It should sound alarming to get people to stay away from the tracks when a train is approaching. Great video!
I live in Lowestoft unfortunately 😂....but the surrounding has much history. Did you know the church you filmed in Beccles only has three clock faces. The face towards Norfolk has no clock, this is because the Suffolk people wouldn't give Norfolk people the time of day....a saying that is widely used in the east.
Until very recently, my family used to live in the Corton Railway station, which was on the Great Yarmouth to Lowestoft line. My dad purchased the property on 1976, and we moved in in 1977. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corton_railway_station?wprov=sfla1
superb thanks

The platform at Beccles is very wide as it was an island platform that was originally 3 and 4.
I went to Oulton Broad on a boat many years ago but we missed out on the Harrington Hump. 5:55: Squirrel Crossing 🐿️
Another great video Sarah 👍
I've noticed that Greater Anglia unit numbers are now shown on RTT, so you'll be able to see if 755412 is running
Another great video. :)
Great video, Sarah! Interesting to learn about these stations!
Now that's one angry level crossing there! 😂

Great video Sarah, that level crossing does sound angry

I don't think I'd swim outdoors either at this time of the year. Never understand why people swim in the sea on Boxing Day!
Great video as usual 👍
Nice video
Done that journey a heck of a number of times before and after the beccles loop

Delightful video, thanks ;-) Maybe it should have been called Brampton Road.

Also I know this because I spent the first 28 years of my life in Brampton that’s my home country
Excellent video again!
Ditto my comments elsewhere.
👍🙂
18:55 I'm expecting it to come out with grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I am an angry level crossing, I hate trains crossing me!
"Why am I having to put my barriers down?! A train?! AGAIN!"
@@sarahwiththetrainsit’s just gone dodgy lol
Those big CATs sound sweet. Pretty rapid get away too !👍
Lovely to hear a Suffolk accent which has largely died out.
Sounds like a Staffordshire accent to me
Sounds like a generic college acquired accent to me.
In the 1970's many stations : ( Saxmundham , Beccles ? ) had the best flower boxes of UK rail ! ..... DAVE™🛑
Cheers Sarah 👌🏻

Have any of these stations you have shown us today have any staff?
No all unstaffed
Only one I went to with any staff was Lowestoft all the others are unstaffed.

sarah can you do the Mannigtree - Harwich town line MAYFLOWER Line
It's more like a level crossing who had too much morning coffee.
I do like the new trains but I have been reading they been breaking down a lot
I don’t get it, what makes the crossing angry?
