"Because we like to be different" ha ha ha. Fun to watch you.
Love watching your videos. The effort you put into making them is much appreciated! But I gotta make an observation….
I’ve been driving for almost 13 years now. I consider myself a good driver. Then there are guys like yourself. It’s hard enough driving a semi to new places you’ve never been. I couldn’t imagine doing it at over 100ft long or 190,000lbs+ like you have before. This guy is the best of the best.
But this is why I’m so frustrated. Yes, getting a brand new tractor that was probably well over $200,000 to be your own is incredible. But this guy isn’t just a driver. Why do these companies INSIST on getting a driver who is worth his weight in gold a truck he does not want. You can just tell he hates it. He’s being positive about it and I am sure he enjoys the truck but it’s not what he wants. He wants a manual 18 speed specd out for doing heavy haul. So what do they do. They go buy him a medium duty automatic Peterbilt. Blows my mind. To some it may not seem like much to me I totally get it. I gurantee you another company would hire him in a HEARTBEAT and buy him the exact tractor he wants.
These companies and their “budgets”. Guys who drive as good as he does aren’t around. They just aren’t. Get the man a truck he wants!
Keep up the good work buddy!
You are spot on how I feel but I accept that I came to work here and this is how they operate. One day I will have a truck spec’d to my liking even if it mean I need to pay for it. It will be their loss.
Thanks for watching and following ✌️
Now that was cool, especially the backing up of your rig….great job…
Thanks for taking us along….keep up the cool videos…
Stay safe out there!
Thanks 😊 ✌️
Great video, I like when you explain the different rules from the provinces and states. What a pain in the butt with everyone having to be different. Safe travels.
Thanks for the comment. That’s what keeps me going 😊✌️
At 19:45 it shows very well the reason why you really want to center your load,it was rockin some
Thank you for the interesting explanations about the differences between tractors and the varied safety equipment regulations for different regions. And I'm surprised that you did this haul without an Escort.... I thought all oversized loads required an Escort. Great editing and great choices of music. Thanks for sharing.
Different states/provinces have different escort requirements. This load would have required an escort in some areas but not for Quebec or Ontario.
Another totally professional job and great music but the best part a comfortable route and no real construction zones!
It’s nice to get an easy one once in a while!
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 ...I'm surprised though, that Bellemare wouldn't let you use the 407etr through the top of Toronto from Burlington all the way to Hwy 115/35 (about 138 km), and yes - it's frigging expensive - but still less wear & tear on the driver, the rolling-stock, the time, less risk of nuisance collisions caused by impatient driver in stop-n-go traffic etc.
When I was the fleet-manager at Tripar Transport in Oakville for 8 years (before it was taken-over first by Contrans, and then by Transforce), the owner said to me many times "I know it hurts me to sign the monthly cheque for the 65 transponders... but if we can do one more pickup or delivery per unit and/or have our highway guys get out of the terminal by 4pm before the rush-hour starts, we're already ahead of the game. (in those days - 1996 thru 2004 - we spent an average of C$125.0K annually on the 407etr...these days it would likely cost twice as much!).
You’re a brave man for hauling that crane on a beam trailer. Love the video there brother!
Thx 😊✌️
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 you’re welcome
We have these differing regulations all over Europe. Switzerland for instance is very restrictive on permitting/requiring amber flash/strobelights and Austria on the other hand requires them when carrying hazardeus materials in tunnels. Doing what you are doing would require in some German states an offsider next to you to read out the route-permit as you go along. The driver has to focus on the road not on a paper.... Other states haven´t got that requirement.
Wow that is interesting! I really don’t know much about regulations outside of North America. Thanks for the comment 😊✌️
And another good video from you !! I even enjoy your choice of tunes. I especially enjoy that jiggin' music on the fiddle at the beginning. Reminds me of when I was a kid.
A little something for everyone!
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 yep , good idea, cover all the bases. I'm a long haul trucker too so I find these vids very interesting.
I too like the music
Just love your videos! Thanks for making them for us!
😊✌️
cool video, keep up the great work.stay safe.
Amen on getting the COG just right. That was always fun loading CAT 627F scrapers solo.
For some reason the Quebec construction companies rarely use scrapers so I don’t get the privilege to haul them 🤷🏼♂️
A tape I like for using is Gaffers... it's cloth backed, but designed for not leaving a residue when being removed, but sticks well. I use it often for holding cables in position. I prefer it over duct tape, as it doesn't peel up as well.
We use white shrink tape. It works very well as long as your surface is dry when applying
Fascinating and informative. Kudos. Très intéressant.
i really enjoy your channel. thanks
✌️
Another great video. Thanks for publishing it. Good backup for that distance. Having never ran O/D in CA, I was surprised that Ontario made it illegal to run a rear strobe light at your dimensions It's one thing to have your signs displayed when you are empty, but totally different if you are loaded not have a little more safety. Not that any driver that does not recognize that you are larger than a normal truck really doesn't deserve to be out there. BTW- May I call you by your first name? As you can tell by my handle that is my real name, just separate the N from the W. Have a good day.
You can call me Doug, thanks for the comment John 😊✌️
Liked the information on the truck spec, never thought about a truck being too heavy for light loads. Swiss army knife of trucks. Also like hearing about the different rules for each province and the USA. These are always interesting, Thanks.
Odd part of the differences is why the are different. The light difference he mentioned between Ontario and Quebec, why are they different? I doubt it's just because the Quebecois want to be different, there has to be another reason.
I know some of the differences between the States is from how the roads are built in them. British Columbia restricts overall length more than most places, 2 lane mountain roads that have a lot of tight turns means longer truck is to much to handle the road.
The sad part is there is very little logic “most” of the time. For instance the length requirement to have an escort in New York is 80 feet (which is only 5 feet longer than a standard size truck) while Ontario is 118 feet ( which is stupid crazy long and dangerous in my opinion) there is no difference between the roads in NY state or Ontario.
Yes the maximum weight for non oversize in most of the USA is 80,000 lbs. So if your truck is very heavy it reduces your payload capacity.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I drove for a company that specified their trucks to be as light as possible. They had small sleepers, small CAT engines, 13-speed transmissions and aluminum frames. It was all Ok except the small sleeper was an inconvenience and the aluminum frame was a disaster as the bolts holding the frame to the cross members reacted with the aluminum and became loose and galled within a year.
They spec equipment to save money and save weight but it’s the drivers fault when it’s too light and breaks… I know the story all too well…
Brand new Pete, and they’ve already put you through full CVSA inspection 😊
@chriszavitsky5122...you noticed the decal too....goes to show, they're not picky...makes for a shorter Level-1 inspection, likely conducted by a (true) CVSA officer who just needed a couple of additional inspections for that quarter, in order to retain his CVSA-accreditation.
(btw...CVSA-accredited officers are professionals in their trade, like Doug is in his!).
Hi Doug! You arrived at destination before the side frames got there. Interesting how those hydraulic kick stands can do all the work. In my day you had to wait until the side frames were on before you pull the beam trailer out. Nice video. Thanks
Thank you 😊
STARCAR or NOCAR!!!!! But I will still keep watching!!!!
Thanks along with everything else the info about the truck 👌
At least they're now building them with the hydraulic rams in the carbody.
Easy as pie
Don’t get too spoiled, and loose your abilities to handle it all. Thanks and take care.
Hey Doug !!! Thanks for the ride !!🙂🙃😉 Yepper !!! It'll be interesting to see how well your new "Pete"" will handle the backroads of PA. when you get a load going that way ???🤔🙄🤥👀👀👀 Is your "Dad's "" KW an autoshift too ??? 🤠😎👍👍👍👍👍
Hey buddy I live in St. Catharines, where was that load picked up? I also do heavy haul work and really enjoy it as well. Great video
Crane rental place right next door to the Husky
Right on I’m live 15 minutes away from there thought it looks familiar. Be safe out there buddy.
Thanks for posting this
I especially like the shorter videos
Something for everyone. Some people like the shorter ones, some people like the longer ones…
In Québec,we are different,NO better NOR worse, and we enjoy our differencies.
@luckybananaheavyhault....another great video....thanks.
But as I was following you on Google-maps in the Montreal area with what I believe was A-40/E....A-13/N....A-440/E....A-40/E, when you took the exit 147, I was wondering where you were heading from there. But lo and behold, I couldn't find that exit....there was x144 and the next one was x151, but no x147...lol. What gives?
It was actually exit 141. I went to Depot Rive Nord (the waste facility)
Doug does your new pete take the add on axel on it also any chance of truck tour and also Doug if you keep on trucking I’ll keep on watching
Yes this truck takes an add axle similar to the old truck. The difference is this one has full sized wheels on the add axle.
Can’t wait to see the video of it in action
It's just as bad here in the states because every state is different down here also .
I love your camera views, excellent work.
Thanks for the feedback 😊✌️
I have seen several of your videos now and I keep wondering why there are so many utility lines crossing the roads you are driving on. Out here in Alberta most new city subdivisions that are 65 years old and newer have all underground utilities. Even in the countryside where a utility has to cross a road to a farmstead or a rural property owners place the utilities are put under to road up to the main residence.
This part of the world is slow to adapt. Even if something is proven better 🤷🏼♂️
that one looks like a load that drains you empty ! large, tall, unstable, thats a big challenge.
It actually went very well. I had a good route and that makes all the difference.
Great Videos! What axle loadings do you run at?
I usually run 14,000 on the steering and up to 22,000 for every other axle under permit.
Did they have equipment there to disassemble and stack your trailer for travel, go somewhere else for that, or just drive it empty at full length?
We have a blanket permit for Quebec that allows me to drive with full length so I just drove back to our yard like that. Less work than taking the trailer apart.
Are you restricted to a certain speed with this load and is it substantial amount? Or does it change from province to province. Another great video.
There is no oversize load speed restriction for Quebec or Ontario. However states like New York, Michigan and Ohio do have speed restrictions. It’s usually 10 mph under the speed limit.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 ...except, if you're unlucky enough to operate an over-dimensional/weight mobile-crane on US-52 from Jamestown/ND to Portal/ND, which is posted at 70 mph, but your Permit limits you to 45 mph all the way ;-(
good vid ,but please that music ! its so repetative !! just drive with the engine noise or something..
How do you expect him to please everybody
so, 5 or 6 more loads before that crane is fully on site huh.
Probably 10 loads, 1 main chassis, 2 track drives, multiple boom sections, multiple counterweights…
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 yeah, it really depends on how high and heavy the lifts on the job are for the boom sections and counterweights.
What is the maximum weight you can put on that set up your driving
This is a 55 ton trailer
Hello you make great videos. do you like that automatic? My brother and I both work for the same carrier doing the same work. he has a 12 speed auto and I have a manual transmission . he struggles with heavy loads that I don't. we carry a variety of ag loads (machinery) up to 55,000 lbs. take care
I’ve only had this truck a few weeks so I haven’t been able to try it in all conditions yet. So far it’s getting the job done. I’ve been grossing in the 160,000 range these last few loads.
13:26 only 7 speed transmission for 70 tons?? 👀👀
Yup but it actually works
Do you have an auxiliary transmission as well? Thanks and take care.
No auxiliary. This truck is not that heavy spec
@Sigouss....Allison Transmission Shifter-Pod displays the gears in double numbers, i.e. in Doug's case, it would display 77, which means it's got 7 full forward-gears and 7 half forward-gears...essentially a 14-speed tranny. In addition, it also has an "Intarder" (in addition to the jake-brake)...the Intarder activates automatically and is located within the transmission just before the output-shaft to the drive-line. The jake, as everyone knows, is activated by the driver. (PS: I drove 4 of these double-decker Alexander-Dennis busses - similar to the Toronto area GO-busses - all the way from Halifax to Vancouver, although they had a ZF-transmission, they were also spec'd with Intarders, and together with the jake, I didn't need to use my service brakes once across the Rockies...on all four back-to-back deliveries)
@@andrep8287 Hi, kinda makes sense then. I'm just surprised Lucky Banana did not notice it has halfs. If truck doesn't specify the gear in the dash, you can kinda see by engine revs & drive speed that there's more than 7 gears available.
The scal master on a20 west leaving québec told me ite ok to have them in the trailer but I got the same as you there up hight for them
Désolé, de quoi qui est correct de garder sur la remorque?
Where is the westernstar do they still have it or was it a trade in also how many tractors & trailers are in the fleet?
My Western Star was passed to a newly hired driver. They didn’t want to give the new drivers the new trucks.
We are 80 trucks in my division (contract transport) that doesn’t count the trucks in the construction or recycling divisions.
Do you guys use the beam to get the weight down? If you could choose, would you prefer to have a flat deck to have more surface area on the trailer?
There was no reason to use the beam for this load other than this trailer was available and it worked perfect for this job.
👍👍🤛
Have you seen drivers do heavy haul in a auto
The truck he is in now is a automatic transmission.
Quite a few prime movers use automatic transmissions. Those are the REALLY HEAVY haulers. Take care.
Is that just a day trip? Or couple days?
The round trip took 3 day. I left on Wednesday, picked up the load in Ontario Thursday and delivered it on Friday
Is it a true automatic, or an automated manual ?
Pareil comme une pickup. Tu mets en Drive et go! Oui il a une option pour sélectionné ta vitesse avec un tap to shift comme certains chars.
I noticed that you didn't have escorts
Can you please explain why sometimes you don't
He had stated in one of his older videos
That some states/Provinces via certain wide (Oversized) loads requires escorts and there’s state’s & provinces your on your own
The escort requirements are different from state to state or province to province. And companies are on a tight budget so they don’t usually pay for an escort if it’s not required.
Why was there a no truck sign in the outside lane by the lake
They need to keep the weight in the middle so the bridge doesn’t fall down 🤪 welcome to Montreal!
Other places also have specific instructions for bridge lanes to be taken by os/ow loads. This is somewhat difficult without some sort of escort. Sometimes you have to wait for a police officer just for crossing a bridge. It’s all in the permit instructions. Take care.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 thanks drive safe
