      That's a pretty unavoidable conclusion given our universe. It came from something much bigger that you can call God or Infinity. It's just that people resist agreeing on the specifics. Ernst Nagel calls this the Cosmic Authority Problem. We don't like the idea of being watched. So it's more comfortable to call it Multiverse and pretend it can't see us anymore.

    I use concave slides for this sort of work. They don't provide an all too easy to focus image but they're open so no cover slips. They do dry out faster though. So like anything they have their pros and cons.

    • @evilsharkey8954
      @evilsharkey8954 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      NegativeInfinity, I put tiny bits of clay on the corners of the coverslip. It keeps it from crushing or pinning things unless I hit it with the objective.

      Ive got a concave slide that’s meant to be used with a cover slip. The dip is tiny and you can barely feel there’s a dip at all but it does the job. Not too much movement up and down, but it doesn’t crush larger specimens.

    • @evilsharkey8954
      @evilsharkey8954 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      0612rex, the clay method is for people using cheap, flat slides. Concave slides don’t need it because the bigger critters can hang out in the middle. I didn’t know there were shallow ones, though. Most of the ones I’ve seen have a pretty deep well.

    • @0612rex
      @0612rex 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evil Sharkey they’re so shallow it’s difficult to tell what side is concaved just by looking. I’ve seen the deep ones made with plastic but the ones I’ve got are high quality glass. I think I got them for £10 for 10 slides.

    I suggest videos on the human microbiome and on biofilms. Great channel! It really fills a gap on TH-cam. Also, I love listening to Hank's "bedtime" voice. So much joy and wonder.

    I think I heard the first tardigrade baby coming out of its shell yell ‘FIRST’ in true TH-cam fashion.
    I guess the chances of me being a total geek, just skyrocketed. ;-)

    4:23 - Dammit, I'm not in the mood for depressing stuff right now. :-\
    5:10 - "We took so much care keeping her alive" … jabbing her in the face with a giant stick. This had to be intentional. 🤔
    8:01 - Did someone get the plates on that truck? 🤨

    i wonder if you could team up with animal wonders and do some videos on the microcosm within a sloths fur. Ive heard that their fur is like a miniature world, with its own little microclimates, flora, and fauna, all keeping the sloths fur clean as it slowly works its way through the trees..

    Imagine you’re pregnant and going for a walk but every time you get to the end of the street something the relative size of a telephone pole comes and gently but insistently nudges you in the face until you head the other way down the street again

      Pregnancy is just one misery after another at the end. I'd have taken a pole to the head at 40 weeks to get her out. She never turned because she was a "frank breech" meaning her legs were bent up from the hips. Think toes in ears. I started out at 110 pounds & was 163 when I finally talked the Drs into a C-section. This was before ultrasounds, I just knew she was NEVER coming out on her own. 36 years later, she's still my only.
