i am sorry but i did not like the movie at all. it was unnecessary too long. the reasons brothers betrayal was not at all convincing. the police angle didn't work at all for me. there was no closure as what happened to his parents. the sadhu been shown in negative light was not at all needed. what happened 10 yrs ago that made a gangster fear Dhanush is not clear. i got really impatient towards end and wanted movie to be over soon. bt it kept on dragging.
Sometimes it's better to leave a few things to our imaginations. 10 years back D did something terrifying, u get the gist and essence of it right. That's all needed. It would be just another fight scene if it's placed in the movie. No closure is needed for parents. They will address in a dialog that they have no clue what happnd to them, like us audience. Something bad happened to them that's it, why taking another 10 mins showing that making it melodramatic. Just skipped those cliches But yea brothers betrayal and some other behavior were little questionable

But as you said, the character transition of the brothers was not convincing at all. And once the script / screenplay/ visuals failed to convince the transition of the brothers, everything else that followed seemed stretched and stuffed in, including the well planned and executed scenes of Dushara in the second half..

Went to movie after watching BRs 9 minute Review-"Hoping for a great experience But DISAPPOINTED!" Raayan : Interesting start and great cinematography,production design , choreography,music . But rest is disappointing. Screen play writing lacked detailing of characters and scene staging) and it follows cliched templates - because of this it doesn't give high emotional impact. The story is not new, which is not a negative if treatment is more intricate/skillful and engaging and Raayan exactly fails here. (So, lot of scope of improvement for Dhanush as director). First 10 Mins Was A Good Start , Childhood Portions Were Good and Dhanush tries to convey emotions mostly visually and he was successful to certain extent. Dhanush's successful films usually follows a pattern of underdog/silent/mellowed character and it is same here and gets repetitive. Adangatha Asuran Song In Climax was a great theatrical experience where all crafts complemented each other(Dance choreo,Production design, dop , music , direction - excellent) AR.Rahman Sir No Words , You Are Amazing As Always. . I wish every movie industry has at least one ARR/Ilaiyaraja/MSV; they are the torch bearers for tamil industry. Dushara,Sundeep & SJ Suryah were good and worth mentioning in whatever the plot gave to them, I felt SJ Suryah's theatrics kind of repetitive(may be every one casts him for only that reason).Rest all were ok. Overall - Average/Not so great cinematic experience

For those wondering - there was a subtle mention of what happened to Prakash Raj's father. He was burnt alive. And there was also a mention by Durai that Raayan did something 10 years ago. In the end we see Raayan killing Sethu buy burning him alive. So there is the missing link.

Durga's action scene is definitely a kind of peak cinema. The action is also choreographed to attempt to look like natural confrontations except towards the climax and the ending. The entire experience has flavours of Dhanush's identity as a very intriguing film that reminds us of the best directors and yet a slight regressive fundamental family dynamic. The emotional implications of the scenes with its self-awareness and the flavour of the score just immerses us into these moments. The aesthetics are just TOO GOOD. This is definitely a very traumatizingly extreme depictions of the realities of poverty and corruption. Immensely a technically important film for Tamil cinema, but problematic for leaning to quite a load of regressive family and social stereotypes.

But the character transition of the brothers was not convincing at all. Sundeep Kishan transition was weak and Kalidas' s was weakest... If this is the character arc you wanted to give the respective characters, the reasoning was as fraile as a feather. And once the script / screenplay/ visuals failed to convince the transition of the brothers, everything else that followed seemed stretched and stuffed in, including the well planned and executed scenes of Dushara in the second half.
Music, camera, and staging are good. Dhanush is as if in character, beginning to end is impeccable. But the overall praise by BR is a little too invested.

The brothers' motivations for joining Sethu lacked depth. Additionally, the hospital scene where Durga single-handedly defeats an entire army stretched credulity beyond its limits.
So conflicted about this movie. I wanted so badly to love it but I can’t. The brother’s betrayal is crux of the storyline and it is executed so poorly. Their characters not fleshed out enough to justify that kind of epic betrayal. Sorry BR I have always find myself on the same page with you but not in this one. Maharaja deserves way more credits than Raayan. However having said that, the acting from each character especially Dhanush that is brilliant. No doubts.

I watch south movies in their original language with subtitles and recently started following reviews however this guy feels like a puppet to me as all he's recent reviews are just on the opposite ends. Direction felt like a Vetrimaran proxy, such as a red colour backdrop in anger and vengeance scenes. It's not bad to have inspiration but some plots are not convincing at all. Some parts in writing and some in direction are superb such as Prakash Raj's character says he's father was burnt alive, Shekhar's last words were "I am laughing thinking about what he'll do to you" whereas Sethu was burnt alive in climax hence Raayan killed PR's father and he knew about him already that's why left without taking the money. Hoping for a better one next time.
The story in the 2nd half was not at all written well. Why does Sethu want to kill Raayan after Durai's death? Raayan doesn't want the business, Sethu could have easily taken them over and lived a peaceful life. Sethu going behind Raayan had no reason at all. Also, who told Sethu that Raayan was the one who wiped out Durai? It's not specified very well in the movie. Raayan's brother stabbing him just because he was told to do so by Sethu makes no sense at all. The reasons behind it do not justify killing Raayan. Manickam helping Muthuvel for his dumb reasons sounds idiotic. The dance sequence at the end is misplaced and unnecessary. Also I felt confused seeing Durga's reaction after seeing her brother Muthuvel stabbed with a knife after the bar scene, as if it is no big deal and she fixes it with a simple stitch. Poorly written movie I would give it 6/10 at best
Its not a typical revenge story, but definitely not a masterpiece. The second half was half baked, written so poorly. I think Dhanush was smoking pot while writing this.

For those wondering - there was a subtle mention of what happened to Prakash Raj's father. He was burnt alive. And there was also a mention by Durai that Raayan did something 10 years ago. In the end we see Raayan killing Sethu buy burning him alive. So there is the missing link.

Durga's action scene is definitely a kind of peak cinema. The action is also choreographed to attempt to look like natural confrontations except towards the climax and the ending. The entire experience has flavours of Dhanush's identity as a very intriguing film that reminds us of the best directors and yet a slight regressive fundamental family dynamic. The emotional implications of the scenes with its self-awareness and the flavour of the score just immerses us into these moments. The aesthetics are just TOO GOOD. This is definitely a very traumatizingly extreme depictions of the realities of poverty and corruption. Immensely a technically important film for Tamil cinema, but problematic for leaning to quite a load of regressive family and social stereotypes.

The rationale behind the brothers' betrayal of their eldest sibling is not only weak but also lacks depth, rendering the central conflict ineffective. Perhaps crucial scenes were lost to editing decisions, but what remained on the screen was disappointingly mundane. It's unclear what the director aimed to achieve with all the buildup surrounding Sekar Anna, but the result was far from compelling; in fact, it often came across as silly and cringe-worthy. Although the fight scenes had their moments, they would have resonated more powerfully if supported by a stronger script.
Sense's less and illogical movie ,it's shocking that 30 persons murdered in a small part of Chennai is nothing important to the Police, All twists are predictable,very weak screenplay, ARR is not needed to this average film Waist of time and money.
The moment , both the brothers betrayed arayan, the movie broke ! That’s it , it was over , right then and there , and I don’t know how come Baddy thinks , it’s good writing ! The entire movie is a couple of fight sequences clubbed into one , unconvincing revenge story 😅😅

What the Fish? The second brother saw Raayan killing for his family at a young age whereas the third brother and sister are totally unaware of it. So logically the second brother should be more obliged and frightened of Raayan whereas here it is opposite. What good writing did you see in this?

Don't know why people areso down on the movie. It was decent, still there was potential for more if the writing was fleshed out.
My honest feedback:
1st half - Just 🆗 (slow but keeps you engaged with Dhanush’s direction)
2nd half - Total violence, Total non-sense & Total waste of time 🤷🏻♂️
*Bottom line* It’s not a theatrical watch, just you can watch in OTT if love Violence & Dhanush without logical thinking 😉
*Offer* if you are able to tell the moral of the story then I will sponsor Raayan’s movie ticket to u (for watching 2nd time) 😜

This was a movie where the first half really worked for me but the second half from script to screenplay went on a downward spiral.
The slow story building in the first half resulting in a slightly expected but banger of a interval block really hyped up the movie for me. But the character transition of the brothers was not convincing at all. Sundeep Kishan transition was weak and Kalidas' s was weakest... If this is the character arc you wanted to give the respective characters, the reasoning was as fraile as a feather.
And once the script / screenplay/ visuals failed to convince the transition of the brothers, everything else that followed seemed stretched and stuffed in, including the well planned and executed scenes of Dushara in the second half.

Music, camera, and staging are good. Dhanush is as if in character, beginning to end is impeccable. But the overall praise by BR is a little too invested.

This movie is pure scrap if it isn't for ARR and good making. The story and screenplay failed the film for real.
1. Good casting so bloody watch the ( not at all engaging )movie.
2. Staging ? Every damn action scene has the same motive . After 2 fights , we are like.. "dei finish it da".
3. Within an hour dhanush savadaals SJ surya , after that no turning point.
4. His brothers turning against him was like old rajni movie moments 😅
5. Dhushara is the only hope.
The first half of the film was engaging, but the latter half lost momentum. The ease with which a marriage is arranged for a family of that stature seemed implausible and difficult to accept. The brothers' motivations for joining Sethu lacked depth. Additionally, the hospital scene where Durga single-handedly defeats an entire army stretched credulity beyond its limits.
Except ARR and actors performance, there is nothing else in this movie which is interesting or entertaining. Waste of all talents.

Maharaja deserves way more credits than Raayan. However having said that, the acting from each character especially Dhanush that is brilliant. No doubts.

I watch south movies in their original language with subtitles and recently started following reviews however this guy feels like a puppet to me as all he's recent reviews are just on the opposite ends. Direction felt like a Vetrimaran proxy, such as a red colour backdrop in anger and vengeance scenes. It's not bad to have inspiration but some plots are not convincing at all. Some parts in writing and some in direction are superb such as Prakash Raj's character says he's father was burnt alive, Shekhar's last words were "I am laughing thinking about what he'll do to you" whereas Sethu was burnt alive in climax hence Raayan killed PR's father and he knew about him already that's why left without taking the money. Hoping for a better one next time.

The story in the 2nd half was not at all written well. Why does Sethu want to kill Raayan after Durai's death? Raayan doesn't want the business, Sethu could have easily taken them over and lived a peaceful life. Sethu going behind Raayan had no reason at all. Also, who told Sethu that Raayan was the one who wiped out Durai? It's not specified very well in the movie. Raayan's brother stabbing him just because he was told to do so by Sethu makes no sense at all. The reasons behind it do not justify killing Raayan. Manickam helping Muthuvel for his dumb reasons sounds idiotic. The dance sequence at the end is misplaced and unnecessary. Also I felt confused seeing Durga's reaction after seeing her brother Muthuvel stabbed with a knife after the bar scene, as if it is no big deal and she fixes it with a simple stitch. Poorly written movie I would give it 6/10 at best
