Why VJS didn't kill the Villain ?
Let me answer for this Mr.Baddy,
It's B'cas the moment he saw the villain he recognised that he's the biological father of his daughter, Maharaja got shook up and enters into an disturbed state.
He tries to avoid his daughter,
even, If u notice in the end when Villain pleads to him, he simply pushes him away and runs away from the spot.
This scene simply portrays struggle of Good soul and suffering of a Bad Soul - The Maharaja ❤

Yep we all can understand such things throughout the movie, like as if the director wants us to interpret it in our own way - but baddy doesn't like it here
But the same.baddy praises kumararaja when he does the same and suddenly adds aliens in his movies with no context

That girl in the movie is an athlete.i feel athletes are physically strong people & the way they showed her in the 1st half, boldness is felt in her behaviour no need to explain it with an incident to justify her boldness in climax ,this trauma made her weak both physically and mentally,so i think if she face that person she'll overcome this and so she did. This part worked for me.

We are what society makes us to be and movies we have grow on..Glad tamil movies are showing women being strong and coming out of rape trauma. ..In rape, more than pain, it is the societal stigma that pushes ppl to depression..if next generation grows up watching movies like this, they will get out of stigma as the person who rapes should be shamed, not the victim, these movies are changing it..clearly, none of us know how rape works..

I don't understand why BR s review should be viewed as a benchmark for reviews. Yes, he is a good critic, that doesn't mean there should be a justification for him to validate a film. This discussion just amplifies and boasts his critical understanding, that's all. I could not understand by some of the comments which read " I too thought the same " while reading or watching a review. If you thought the same, express it. Simple...in plain words.

    • @Jagdtiger46
      @Jagdtiger46 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

You expect him to apologise for his opinion, just because majority liked the film...he is not boasting anything...he is explaining why something didn't work only because the questions were posed that way...the interviewer was stupid to ask BR why some scenes didn't work for him...its like asking someone why they dont like tea why they drink only coffee...they might have an explanation for their likes and dislikes but that answer is useless....so asking that question is pointless...the interview asked stupid questions which BR was forced to answer even though he tried to deflect it few times

There is a Karma concept in the film, i don't know how many people have noted that.
Anurag and his friend will heist a house in the flashback scene. During that scene, a girl will get rap*d in front of her mother by his friend.
Karma will hit back to anurag when his daughter gets rap*d by his friend in front of him. I noticed this many hours after watching the film.

I loved the movie and was glued on for the full 2:21 hrs . I love BR and he is giving his opinion but i gotta say the director has a responsibility to make sure the movie works for the regular audience as well and not just for the critics . Maharaja pushed the envelope just the right amount so as to get the general audience used to a new way of watching a movie without just the frivolous masala elements and yet work at the box office enough to encourage producers to come forward to make movies like this in the future as well . This is not a stage play that's made on a shoe string budget nor are we living in a cinema lover paradise where movies like last tango in Paris will work at the Box office . i agree with BR on some of his grouses about the movie but sympathise with the director who had the added responsibility of making the movie work for the mob whilst whipping up a soup which ll satisfy those with a refined palate as well . Kudos and respect for that 👍🙏

Just perspectives . VJS holding that pillar i see it as strong emotion that he will go to any extreme for his daughter and daughter role was established very well in many scenes like shoe she gives to her friend etc.. Anurag didnt work out for me as well as its a performance demanding role and the voice non sync disturbs as a viewer .

Lets admit it. Crowds land up in the theatre first and foremost mainly for Vijay Sethupathy. And he has excelled. The Director has ( pointed out by BR) has come up with brilliant plot plus great moments/scenes. And BR is looking at things objectively. No harm in it. Such an young girl would never want to meet or even think of the Abuser.

  • @harpras3268

Baddy's relevance is not because he is spot on in his reviews but he is different.Jai Bhim, Soorarai pottru, Maharaja and many more amazing movies that worked for critics and audience alike did not work for him. Like Baddy says why look for his validation for movies, just enjoy his different prespective. He is like Director parthiban or Blue Sattai, they are not relevant or gamechangers, we tune in to see what their different take on movies are.Tamil audience have started watching international movies, so don't want to be spoon fed about characters like Baddy wants for Vijay Sethupathi/ Anurag's characters in the movie. Also, they have shown the girl to be in sports and we know how much mental strength and how much fighters women in sports are, so for her to say she will come out of it is believable, so no spoon feeding needed there.

  • @mygumybear

BR approaches movies with structure, but since day one, Tamil movies don't follow much on exposition or character arcs strictly. Tamil movies are based on emotions and high points in the movies. The audience has been both culturally and visually tuned to this approach. If movies are made with a detailed structure, they might come out as either boring or lagging, so a lot of editing is needed. Rather than spending too much time on exposition or looking for logic gaps, many Tamil directors feel their films would end up being boring. In contrast, a lot of Malayalam movies incorporate more of these filmic structures because most of their early directors and writers followed Neo-film traditions from the West. Tamil movies, even though they started with Western directors making Tamil movies in their early days, actually follow "navarasam" (emotions) over any character logic.

I'm very frustrated with thisreview. In the past, BR reviews have always been spot-on for me, especially for smaller movies that are also available on streaming services. They steered me away from seeing "Maharaja" in theaters, which I now deeply regret. I trusted your review and ended up watching "Start", which was a total disappointment for me and my whole family.
I completely understand that tastes vary, and that's okay. However, your reviews are the only ones I trust because they usually align perfectly with mine. Missing "Maharaja" in theaters is a real bummer, and I can't help but wonder how many others might have skipped it based on this review.
The reason I'm explaining this in detail is because a single review can have a significant negative impact on a great film like "Maharaja."

    BR Crying why ?
He can't accept the film is blockbuster.
Dai Muttal Rangan ; it is the Screenplay that made the film blockbuster not the plot.
It shows clearly you are biased towards the film because you can't accept it's Victory.
Because you want only Mani Ratnam to give such a kind of film.

Firstly, i don't always likes Mr. Baradwaj Rangan's reviews on movies.
But, we people have a bad habit that if a film talks about some serious stuffs then immediately it is considered as a good material. That's why a few years or decades ago there was a concept of film called "Social Message Padam" was exist. Those filmmakers literally exploited people by saying its a good message film, like recent one Bhoomi director scolded tamil audience for making fun of him.
Also, there was an era, if people criticize Mr. Mani Ratnam movies, then they'll be considered as fools.. they're blabbering without knowing the knowledge of cinema.
Likewise, if people criticize a movie which deals a serious political issues, then they'll be considered as illiterate, fools or something like that.
First basic thing of any movie is it should engage people. (Its true that not all movies are for everyone)
Idhu epdi irukuna.. enaku Stanley Kubrick, tarkovsky director films la avlo pudikaadhu.. it mostly makes me feel sleepy. But people like Christopher nolan loves Stanley Kubrick.
So, how it will be if someone comes and makes fun of you for not able to get connected with a most beautiful cinematic piece and thinking you're too small to understand these films?
Adhu oru kevalamana sindhanai dhaane? Also, he has some solid reasons to support his points, it may not reasonable to people but he has a stand.
And mostly, this anchor OMG! I'm exhausted with her stand and analysing skills on movies. I can't take a stand.. mudiyala..
"Saaaar, maybe ipdi irundhu irukalaamonu" she brings a point.. mudiyala.. it's a visual story telling, i dont know why she is thinking out of the story and all. Okay! I can understand her, people have eyes on mr. baradwaj rangan's review, so the channel wants to highlight it and she is trying to make all the eyes as her followers by asking random questions and stands again mr. Baradwaj.
    Pity! 🌼

I don't have a problem with BR not connecting with a film. Its his taste and perspectives. I have a problem with the volume at which he points the negatives of some film and not for the others. Star (movie) had its shortcomings as well but the review didnt speak of it that loudly. I still like some perspectives that BR puts out but longer take them as a Godsay. Im sure there are many people who miss out such movies in a theatre after listening to these "star" reviews (no pun).

Even though i understand there is no logic behind the hero's strength about the hold on to something very strong, but I see here for rangarajan could not accept the brilliant scene that happens in the school, the director wanted to establish the very obvious thing about a father and then wanted shock us by revealing that its not his own daughter.... Moreover that scene worked for me coz, many of us in school have such principles & teachers who try to ignore or avoid the moment they realise the truth. such scenes are a slap on their face... no one stands up for justices too...Thats exactly what we want to see as an audience.. Lakshmi as dustbin was a bit religious sentiment, but I too agree about the jewellery being thrown at Anurag was staged. to surprise him.

Some people are like that... They go to any extreme in hurting other's family... No humanity or whatsoever but protect their own family.. Extreme selfish... There are many people like that.. They justify their acts saying any shitty story.. Poverty changed them etc... In this movie even its clear his wife wanted a good husband with moral values... But he lost such a family because of his wrong thoughts and wrong friendships... His same friend who raped other gals can anyday rape his own daughter... He didnt even understand that.. Path of darkness makes one believe its right and they become unstoppable... One should be social concious person too... Balance should be like none should hurt us & we shouldnt hurt anyone in this life... But the balance rarely happens.. One shouldn't hurt others as well as know how to protect themselves.. One should protect their family without hurting others... Some people believe we should stamp on/ cheat others then only we can survive...

Adding more grey to each side and criccrosing could have workers better
As he said : great plot !

Totally agree with BR I found the film draggy all jammed in the last 20 mins and rather confusing..the twist plot abt daughter was a good idea but cant say the same for the execution...N no years dates shown in any scenes which makes the plot so confusing..n the dustbin fiasco just a drag.
The star of the film is the hero and villain with a splendid performance that has covered up the flaws of the storytelling by director.. VJ Sethupathi and AKashyap saved the film.
