The 3A has that transformer tb4 sound we love!! Sounds amazing! Your review is the best out here in these units! Great work, hope the gave you 2 units for your review! Just bought the 3A as an early christmas present to my self! God jul från Skåne 👍🥁
I just ordered a Comp 3A exclusively for Vocals. Already have a 1176 which I like. Just wonder how different they are or if I should use both together for tracking vocals? Cheers
Hey! I would use the 1176 to catch peaks just 1-3dbs then use the 3a to compress a tiny bit more say 1-5dbs. That would even out the vocals :) You could check out my Smooth Vocals Ep for some insöeiu. Cheers!
The 3a sounded better in every example. It has the same release auto smooth response, but with a shorter attack (5m instead of 10ms) and a tighter low end not being tube based. It has just about the perfect attack time for everything, tight in the low end, doesn't pump as an LA2A so you can plum the needle a bit more, and not as aggressive as an 1176. It's like a middle term between an 1176 and an LA2A.
@@miguelpessanha the Comp3a by far. Just liked it transparency. Sure the softening of the comp 2a Is nice but the compression was very audioable. I got a cl1b though so I kind of comparered it to that mainly thinking of vocals.
3A was a lot more transparent. 2A added more color and top end. Thank you for doing this with a good mic and pre to really see what the compressor is doing. Great vocalist!
Me owning the comp 3, i know this sound, but comp 2a was better on vocals, but everything else was better with comp 3, but its still great for vocal's if needed.
@@Christian_svedin I already have the COMP-2A and just ordered the COMP-3a. I also got an Output music desk which has 3 rack mounts that will fit my interface, a patchbay, and these compressors, so I'm pretty excited.
Personally Comp3a. Feels allot more transparent and the GR felt more smooth. If wanted more tube feel (comp2) I'd rather add an pultec Eq into the chain (y)

Why do i prefer 2A unlike everyone else here
I like sharpness of the vowels because of the slow attacks on 2A
it sounds so musical
I have the Comp -3A running with a 1073 with and a tlm 102 and it sounds fantastic. Vocals are warm, thick and upfront .
Do u use this combination for tracking vocals? Or for mixing? Other than vocals do u use it for any thing else
@@zanem9022 just for tracking vocals. It’s an excellent combination.
I run a similar setup with bae1073, ga 2a, & GA 251 I love it
Thanks for reviewing golden age project hardware. Bo is an awesome guy,I just bought an pre 73 Jr mkII I love it.
The Comp-3A was better in everything. Good sounding compressor! I will buy it later. Thanks!
Did you compare it with the 2A? Why do you think it's better?
3A is cleaner and 2A adds a bit of tube saturation. Both can be good. Depends on application and genre.

Thanks! Yeah the 3a was awesome! No free gear I'm afraid 🙈 Thanks for watching
3a for my taste. now I know I need it. thank you.

@@Christian_svedin do u recommend this (3a+76 combo) for tracking vocals? Or is this more for mixing. What u think of wes clone?
@@zanem9022 sure. It's s great combo 😊✌️
@@zanem9022 nice! I've tried the Wes Audio stuff and it's all excellent. Go for it 💪
Comp 3A hands down for me! No to try and decide if I should pair this with a GA premier 73 or ficusrite ISA one mic pre.
GAP 73 DLX hands down. Hard to beat for that price!
I liked the 2 better on rock vocals, not having as much miss gives it a warmer less harsh feel.
Great comparison Sir. I also preferred the Comp 3A on most sources.
Thanks! Yeah the Comp3a is a real winner. I really... Shouldn't buy one.. have to.. resist 🙈😁🤣
I like them equally, just different flavors. I just ordered the Comp-2A, but I’m definitely ordering the 3A as soon as I can
great review, thanks. very well done.
3A i love you, songs of compression the best
Awesome video demonstration

Yeah absolutely, totally agree. It's truly awesome ✌️
@@Christian_svedin It's like even the 1176 and the LA2A had a baby
@@miguelpessanha haha I think the Comp3a/la3a is more like a solid state CL1b more so then the La2a
@@Christian_svedin Which one do you prefer if you could only get one?

3:51 - 4:03 2:22 - 2:31 4:31 - 4:40 1:50 - 2:00
Perfect comparison , thank you
3:51 4:02 The 2a has a more soft are on certain words like (time with Armour) but the 3a keeps it more clean with still doing a great job
3a on everything but the soft vocals and acoustic guitar. 2a won those hands down.
Awesome! Thank you!

Really impressed by 3A, thanks for the review!
This was really great thank you! My conclusion. I need both eh?
Not sure why. But the VU on my 2A unit doesn't sit on 0 when bypassed it goes down to 20. Any help on this ?
Calibrate it, go to golden age TH-cam page on the comp-2a video it says you have to calibrate the signal chain to how much gain you have
Me owning the comp 3, i know this sound, but comp 2a was better on vocals, but everything else was better with comp 3, but its still great for vocal's if needed.
agree with you. I own two 3a's and thought the soft vocals were much better on the 2A. i just picked up a 2a so will be nice to compare.
Great video!
I Enjoy both units, but like the 3a slightly better.
Whats the bands name of the rock vocals example??
Awesome! That was a cover of Avenged Sevenfold. My friend who sang sings in JD Miller. Great singer!
@@Christian_svedin amazing ! Love his voice
1:33 Vocals Soft = Dream Theater - Far from Heaven
That 2a
I'm surprised, I'm typically a 2A fan but I preferred the 3A on everything but the bass where the 2A stole the show.
What are those drums?
Real drums augmented with samples
Where did you get the rack option for these?
You mean the rackkit? I'm quite sure GA sell it!
@@Christian_svedin Thank you! and yeah I think that's it. Great channel btw.

Is it on purpose, that the Comp-2A has spelled "Leveler" wrong ;) 3A Best .
Good eye....you are right....would have never noticed that
Hello there! Between Comp2A and Comp3A which one you would recommend for vocals tracking? Thanks.
Personally Comp3a. Feels allot more transparent and the GR felt more smooth. If wanted more tube feel (comp2) I'd rather add an pultec Eq into the chain (y)
@@Christian_svedin the pultec eq before or after the 3a?
The 3a was better … listening just on my iPhone speaker it was audible
Actually non compressed versions in all cases sounded better.
