I bought a set of the Maxxis RAZR AT811s. Done almost 2000km over tarmac, rock and gravel - these tyres are brilliant. Yet to try in mud but I’m confident these will be good. Surprisingly quiet, grippy, improved ride and feel safe in the wet.
Unreal content rony. I'm from Perth myself living overseas now for work and just built my hilux also. Your videos just get better each time. Keep em coming

Hey Ronny thanks mate for the video I been waiting for this one. I needed an expert like yourself to get me set up without me messing up and regretting. you rock brother ❤️ from 🇿🇦
Tyres and wheels were my first mods to my dual cab (went 16inch steels and 31.5inch ATs), fortunately had no rubbing. Gotta give credit to this channel for being confident about where to spend the limited funds for where it is most needed. Thanks!
SUPERB !!! I am getting a new Hilux and obessing about tire size - definitely best video I have seen on tires for Hilux on the Internet. Huge thank-you. Professional video well done.
I have been saving for a Hilux SR5 for 12 months. Currently driving a Toyota Corolla 😬. If In the next 12 months, I make as much progress with savings and investing as I have in the last 12 months - will be able to buy one brand new. Watching all of these videos so I know what I’m doing when I walk into the dealership.
Pro tip, I can go 33"s on my Tacoma with no lift and no cab mount chop if I go skinnies. Depending on how wide of tires you play with, you might be able to go above 31.5"s, but I also realize you like your wider tires :). Worth mentioning as I realize there may be others watching this with Tacoma's and the Tacoma is pretty similar to the Hilux the closer I look(I have a lot more looking to do too).
A good pointer could be that it “can”throw your kms out of calibration and also will make you believe your using more fuel than you actually are, leaving your hilux to tell you incorrect kms range
265/65's actually adjusted the speedo to dead on, GPS verified. Jury is still out on the fuel usage with the bigger tyres. I think there maybe an inaccuracy with the fuel use computer...
Hey Ronnie, thanks for weighing the wheels. Every little bit counts, and some things get overlooked. Next time I get to a town I am going to weigh my ute as it is near finished accessorising - tub slide, canopy, dual wheel carrier, extra battery, oven, slide out kitchen, 6 X AT tyres, fridges etc. It will be interesting to see how many kgs leftover if I want to tow something one day !
Yep the "surplus weight" question- "Do I still have 200kg for Tongue load available?" - many forget to ask themselves, or will a 3000kg trailer put me 800kg over GCM? (BTW a standard 4x4 ute with 1000kg onboard drives like a slug, at 3000kg loaded - they are really not fun any more (unless you really enjoy queue's).
Rodney! Keep a 31.5 265 75 R16 you can absolutely tackle anything with a rear locker and winch with this set! I think it's pretty underrated! Remember that you still have to drive to your destination and 33 on a dual cab is slow and pain to fit!
@@initialhaven2414 what did you end up doing? the new 2022 hilux’s come with 18inch rims so i’ll have to go to 17inch on 31.5’s, just seeing how they go with no lift
I ended up going with the LT 285 70R17 KO2's on my 2020 Ranger, and the 3" level on the front. Doesn't rub the mud flaps, but just a bit, touches the front crash bar! And yes, my speed is now 6KM/H faster. I've been asking around, but the Ford dealers can't adjust it with their computers. Only can be changed through aftermarket software!
Ronny the guy who install your new tires really know his job well, all new tires have a colored round mark somewhere in the sidewall this dot indicates the spot where the skeleton of the tire merges together, this spot is the heavyest of the tire and need to be placed exaclly in the valve of the rim in order to have the best possible allighnment, if you froze the video on 3:56 you'll see that they have put the yellow dot correctlly next to the valve, it's something that most tire shops don't know and of course many owners too. You can see this mark also in the spare tire you're holding which was instoled from the factory but instead of yellow dot it has a red dot 4:05
'Nice combo Ronny, changes the look for the better. I was on a budget so I stuck with the 18's, and fitted BFG AT's in 265/65/18. No rubbing yet but it is very close. I nearly took the leap with Mickey T's in the Deacon range, as we have got awesome mileage out of them at work. But BFG's have never let me down, been on all my trucks since 1998 and still have plenty of confidence in them. The Maxxis look mean though mate, happy wheeling.
I left the standard rims on when I upgraded to 31.5" AT tyres, 15" or 16". I consider anything above 16" too big. The tyre did not rub and I also upgraded to 2" OME suspension, the best ride ever.
Very few 16" rims will clear the front brakes on a current model Hilux, so 17" is about as small as you can go unless you want to test fit a bunch of rims for clearance. The standard rims are 18".
Just bought the mans version of the SR5 the SR didn't want the SR5 (ladies version) because the SR already come with 17 inch steelies, easier to clean (no carpet) plus chrome is for Toranas and Falcons. As any farmer also would tell you, yes radials make for a far better footprint in the loose stuff, but lacks the durability of the diagonal tyre´s sidewalls. However, it is very noticeable on farm equipment that the build of the tyre makes high speed travels a lot bumpier. Do you notice this with car tires as well? It´s especially notiaceable if you leave a loaded trailer over night (quite often 12-14ply) overnight, the tyres will make a perfect impression of an egg the next day. I can hear the difference between the highway and all terrain tires. The surprising bit is that, I think, from the change in the noise, that some of what you thought was wind noise was actually coming from the highway tires, because even though the noise level was slightly higher afterward, it was a much lower pitch, so some of the higher pitch noise from before was also not there afterward. I could be completely wrong of course, but that's what it sounds like to me in the video.

Air has a weight the more you put in the heavier the tyre/wheel will be. Thats possibly why the the tyre and wheel weigh less sperately
Did you pay RRP or get a bit of a discount on the wheels and tyres?
I was thinking the same as you. Would be good to know.
YES he needs to be upfront, whats to hide?
marketing 101 (Ronny is the one playing the marketing game here), the tyre guy got airtime in front of 80k sets of eyes - and counting, what is that worth?
what height of the lift will need to be done in order not to remove the mudguard?
Ronny, i just bought the exact luxy, and does putting a 31.5 size tyre on my new car void my 5 year warranty?? And will these tyres strain my suspension and engine because they are bigger than the stock wheels it has come with ?? Love the look of these wheels and plan to do medium tracks, nothing crazy, looks good without the lift and has the capability compared to the stock wheels and rims it comes with.Cheers
Looks nice, do you need a speedocorrection after fitting these bigger wheels?
Awesome video Ronny, thanks. Waiting for more tunes
I know you dislike them but i am loving the Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus tyres. Very capable off road and quite on road.
Anyway those rims look amazing, as always, good video.
I’ve had them before never ever again
@@Ronny_Dahl Fair enough, you would have put them through more than I have, if they fail me when I start hitting harder tracks I'll look into the Tyres you just put on the Hilux
