Yes there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule (Toyota, Honda, Lexus etc) but also every new vehicle loses thousands of dollars in value in the first year. That's one reason leasing is becoming more popular. For my 2019 Tacoma I bought 4 months ago for $33k, it's now worth $28k-$30k and it hasn't even been on the road for long.

      TFAY first of all, your typo in English didn’t give viewers some assurance for your English level. What is this, “ completley” ?! completely is the correct spelling!
      Second is your reading English level. What do you think “ odometer adjustment” actually meaning here? This word actually was shown in BOTH of the items as well, so don’t say “ completely” unrelated because this is one of the relation already.
      The odometer doesn’t need any assistance from any machine to change anything because there is no button (except a button to press down for clear out the “ mileage” of driving distance) on the odometer at all. If any machine like this video shown at 1:45 and 1:51, which means using OBD2 related plug, is the way they use it to “ adjust” the odometer, that is automatically illegal and against the law just like the video said already.
      Only scan is alright, but if the title of advertisement shows” adjustment” while it is not legal to, well...you guess it. Illegal dude!

    What do you do if/when you need to legitimately program the mileage ie: the original gauge cluster fails for whatever reason analog or digital and needs replaced?

    • @QkSilver04GTO
      @QkSilver04GTO 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any local shop or online vendor that repairs instrument clusters can legally program the correct mileage on to the cluster, if the repair requires it. Case in point... when I bought my 2004 GMC Yukon years ago, the instrument cluster needed repair and the dealership replaced the complete assembly under warranty, but I was responsible for paying the labor to program it. What this video doesn't make clear is if the people rolling back odometers are also manipulating the vehicle's BCM or ECM as well. I am under the impression that one or both of these modules stores the mileage as well as the cluster. So if you change one but not the others then it is a good way to get caught.

    • @Cyrix2k
      @Cyrix2k 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the car. BMW, for instance, does store the mileage in more than one ECU which makes them more difficult to "roll back." Additionally the chip that stores the mileage in the cluster generally can't be reprogrammed without physical access to the chip itself so it is much more difficult to do than what is shown in this video. It can still be done but requires a significant amount of technical knowledge and to some extent, equipment.

    It is ridiculous how easy it is to changed an odometer. The old mechanical ones were actually really easy to change also. However, they took some time to change. The digital odometers take almost no time to change. They are easier to change than the mechanical. The serial interface is super easy to use with a terminal programme, a smartphone, and a Prolific USB to serial adaptor. I changed my odometer when I changed my instrument panel. I changed it to match the old one.

Nobody could find that guy. Another time was a Chevy van in Maryland not far from Baltimore. Both times was from a road side used car business. The one in Maryland came with a carfax. No problems.
