- Hope you guy's enjoy this one! I'm very excited to share this with all of you as I feel it's some of my best analysis I've done yet. Ever since I started doing these I've wanted to use Kenobi. He's one of if not my favorite Jedi. When I was talking to a friend about SWTOR and he mentioned Darth Baras, I was intrigued and decided to go ahead and make a full fledged video with the two. But anyways, without further ado I present, The Voice of The Empire Vs. The Negotiator.... Darth Baras Vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi!

All jokes aside it good to see characters such as Darth Baras get used. Such a interesting character and would like to see him and others like him like Darth Marr or Darth Jadus more. Great video as always
I had no idea who Darth Baras was before this match, gotta say he's pretty beast. Excellent job.
I can imagine Baras occasionally hitting Kenobi with a blast of the Force and just getting more and more frustrated like 'why won't you stay down!?'

Great video! I think Kenobi gets a bad rep sometimes by having his force defenses beaten by Dooku. I think that's more of Dooku being talented and subverting his defenses more than Kenobi being weak
Kenobi has spotty passive defenses, but he DID manage to block a Force Push from Dooku on Oba Diah, so it's a matter of well-timed reactions and using active Force barriers.
To be fair Maul and Ventress were both on occasion able to penetrate his barrier
@@raicattivo TCW is wonky with its power scaling, especially with Ventress....
Ventress has taken a crack at his guard in the classic eu as well
Ventress was also a lot stronger and more consistent in the original EU than in TCW
Finally a matchup with Darth Baras in use .

@@RobTerra Nice ! There are very few who could rival Vaylin, in terms of raw Force users. Maybe Palpatine, Dooku and Joruus C'Baoth. I'm sure you'll find a good match ;)

Masterful. Goddamn, this is the perfect example of a VS video done right. Two amazing characters with varying skill sets and strengths. They work well against each other and I agree with the verdict. A fascinating matchup and an incredible analysis of both characters. No bias or implications, just facts and feats to backup your own informed opinions. On top of that, with the incredible production values and flawless editing. Setting a new standard of the VS series my friend.

This was perfection my friend. I have long been interested in seeing Darth Baras in a versus video but he never came and you delivered. I felt both characters got the justice they deserved while also objectively looking at their flaws. I agree that Kenobi wins based on Baras’s lower stamina though I will admit you taught me a lot about Baras that I didn’t know so I liked learning more about him too. In conclusion you have made a masterpiece of a versus video while also using a character no one has ever used before and put him against a character everyone knows and made a solid argument for them contending that felt objective and not like a fan fiction. I can’t wait for where you go next cause I know for sure I’ll be there to watch it.

Would you be interested in using other Njo Jedi IE Jaina Solo, Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn, Corran Horn etc?
It is my personal belief that Kenobi’s defense is at his best against unstoppable forces(Anakin Skywalker, General G, ETC) and at his worst against those who can subvert his guard rather than just plowing through it (count dooku). Thoughts?

I was wondering about Shado Vaos fighting style. I think it is a Niman shien Hybrid, but my buddy thinks that he was an Ataru Shii Cho specialist. What do you think?
Tbf, Obi Wan is known to subtly manipulate the enviroment with TK and about his Force barriers, his passive defense is spotty, but when he raises an active barrier (like he and Anakin did against Dooku on Oba Diah), he can block direct attacks. It all comes to well timed reactions and Force users who use his same subversive tactics against him.
Still, the verdict was clear lol

Good video, Kenobi is smart, always planning and using his form 3 defensive style to wait out and out think his opponent. Kenobi did match a dark side anakin in force ability so its definitely possible for him to best Beras
I definitely agree that prior to the fight we would have the greatest banters and talks between Jedi and Sith and it is such a pity that both combatants are separated by 3 millennia. However I disagree with the verdict. Darth Baras as seen in the Old Republic issue 1 and 2 is the one who takes the defensive (both in his fights with Angral and Satele where he’s shown to be the one blocking rather than pressing the advantage).
This mindset would likely result in him not wasting as much energy against an opponent like Kenobi whose defensive moves would simply allow Baras to recuperate. It is also crucial to note that the Wrath (based on the game mechanics and quotes that represent the Wrath’s path as a Sith Warrior) is essentially a practitioner whom destroys his opponent through brute force and aggressiveness ("Born for battle, few opponents can withstand the rage-fueled blows from a warrior's lightsaber or penetrate a warrior's armor. If dual wielded lightsabers can't finish the job, there is always Force Choke to bring an opponent to his knees.")
As a result, Baras would arguably be pressured more as he would have been in this scenario. However what is fascinating is that despite being placed against an unstoppable force (The Emperor’s Wrath) audio recordings from the dialogue between the Wrath and Baras indicates that the Emperor’s Wrath himself was breathing heavily which can be inferred that Baras himself has the capacity to tire out lesser Juyo combatants. (and accolodates shows that the battle was intense)
“But to prove such a bold claim to the Dark Council, the Wrath battles Darth Baras in a fierce duel. The Wrath emerges triumphant, striking down the ruined and seething Darth Baras.”
Furthermore, given that the Wrath could be a Marauder or Juggernaut with the latter being described as having unrivalled stamina ("Sith who train in the stalwart arts of the Juggernaut boast unrivaled stamina in battle. Through diligence and clarity, the Juggernaut shapes the Force to his will to become nearly invulnerable. Damage that would destroy others is shrugged off, and futility fills the Juggernaut's foes with doubt and despair. Protecting their allies and punishing their adversaries, they charge into the thick of any fray, and take the brunt of the assault and are even able to drain the energy of their enemies to further strengthen their resolve.") the fact that Baras ferocious fight against the Wrath lasted to the point that even the Sith Juggernaut is breathing heavily speaks to Baras’ stamina being less of an issue compared to what you have stated in the video.
Therefore, I do not believe Baras would lose via exhaustion as he did against the Emperor’s Wrath as Kenobi would be too defensive to ever push Baras’ endurance, and this fight would end through Baras immense skill in the Force. Nonetheless this is an amazing video!
One thing I think should be noted about Kenobi is that almost he's never had his ACTIVE force barriers broken, just his passive one. On top of that, the times Kenobi gets his passive barrier broken are when he's under a lot of pressure and is focusing on his force enhancement.
So if Baras isn't skilled enough of a duelist to force Kenobi to focus on his saber defense, then Baras isn't going to get through Kenobi's active force barriers.

To be fair every time Obi-Wan Kenobi's Force defenses have been breached it's typically been done by extremely powerful force users or by middle or higher-level force-users that are only able to break through it after something weakened Obi-Wan in some way or his concentration get broken
Great fight my dude. You really got me invested in Baras now. I was wondering if you’d ever use Thanaton as he’s another powerful Dark Council Master who I think is underrated but I don’t know who to use him against.
Thanaton is interesting because he's a Force wielder first and foremost, but his age weakened his abilities. When I say that I mean that when he was young he was wild and cunning like a hound, but age turned his intelligent use of the Force into a sledgehammer. His lightsaber skills are likely passable. He's kinda tough because his lightsaber skills aren't anything special, but his power in the Dark Side is nothing short of astonishing. Despite wielding it like a cudgel instead of the precision and tactical ingenuity that characterized his youth. A good competitor would be Count Dooku (though I think he'd lose that one) or possibly Darth Plagueis (which he would be able to possibly win).
@@austinkersey2445 Is say that his age weakened his tactics rather than his power. I feel he grew a little stronger after becoming a Darth but due to the fact he became a Sith Scholar he didn’t care for battle anymore and relied on raw power rather than skill
@@thepancakespy2355 That's mainly what I meant. He got so arrogant that he let his saber technique lapse and his strategic and tactical sensibilities were forgotten.
@Emperor Vowrawn No, Thanaton doesn't have the feats to mess with GM Luke. He is strong, but overall he isn't even Vader levels.
@Emperor Vowrawn Except Luke has feats way more impressive. Like fighting Abeloth (a Force deity most certainly beyond Thanaton's ability), closed an artificial fucking black hole (don't remember the size but if it was bus-sized it was still more molecularly dense than the Earth), killing Yuuzhan Vong with a Force Wave (beings immune to the Force), defeated Palpatine (also far beyond Thanaton), and a bunch of other feats. Thanaton is powerful, but Luke is the strongest Jedi in history. He's quite possibly the strongest mortal in Star Wars (so discounting Celestials and the Whils and such). Thanaton is probably in the Exar Kun range Force-wise, and lands in mid-level Knight status as a swordsman. He deserves the acclaim and aplomb he recieved in his time, but he isn't an all-time great.
One thing that that I thought you should’ve included in the final fight was physical combat. Let’s say Baras force pushes kenobi into a wall, and kenobi loses his saber while being pushed, or vice versa, I think baras would absolutely dominate kenobi in hand to hand combat due to his size and strength.
Is it a fare assumption to say that Obi-Wan is *the* perfect example of a physical/melee tank in the world of RPG, drawing attacks while his allies (Anakin) serves as the DPS player?

A thought has just occurred to me. Did Dooku only break through Obi-Wan’s Force barrier with assistance from Sidious? As powerful as Dooku is, Anakin/Vader is more powerful yet Obi-Wan is able to counter the young Sith Lord’s Force push. Or, like his lightsaber skills, did Dooku work around the Force shield rather than bash through with brute force, something Kenobi seems better at dealing with?
No, Obi-Wan just has rather middling telekinetic defenses. A Force shield cannot be worked around, only powered through or worn down. Dooku is a notable telekinetic master with both raw power and subtlety on his side. He also was possessed of highly potent defenses as well. To put it simply, Kenobi was beyond overmatched by Dooku because Dooku was both a better swordsman with a more dueling-centric style and a far superior Force user. People kinda jerk Knightfall Anakin off a bit. Sure he was the strongest in terms of raw power and potential, but Anakin had few Force abilities and lacked variety. He had potential, he never actually achieved it. So no, Dooku never had assistance from Sidious and he didn't have to resort to picking around Kenobi's barrier. He was simply able to ply it apart and rip it open. In fact, Dooku was under Palpatine's orders not to kill Anakin so he was likely holding back somewhat.
@@austinkersey2445 I disagree kenobi was noted in rots that his defensive velocities looked so dangerous according to the novel dooku did not want to try to penetrate it. So he was only overmatched in regards to the force
@@devontaelafleur3841 Ah, I forgot about that passage. Fair enough. Though I more believe he didn't want to work on whittling Obi-Wan down while fighting Anakin. A 2v1 doesn't really allow Dooku to use all of his tricks. So who knows, maybe he'd have had a better or worse time if he yeeted Anakin into the railing instead. We'll never know. That said, I think you can agree that Palpatine was certainly not buffing Dooku up in the slightest during the fight. If anything he'd gladly do the inverse.

I don't think Obi-Wan's Force wall is weak. It just looks that way. He's just been pitted against Force-wielders that have a higher level of skill than him such as Count Dooku. His Force Push was powerful enough to match that of Anakin Skywalker, and he's successfully defended himself against the likes of Asajj Ventress, unless she was in a rage. I would say that Obi-Wan's Force wall is considerably strong, as he has also defended himself against Dooku, (albeit with the help of Anakin), on Oba Diah.

Few differences to point out on this one….
“A power duelist”? “Never been a speed based fighter, relying on his power”?? Baras’ style was far more about finesse than strength.. He utilized forms 3, 5, & 6. Although he used form 5 in conjunction, it was not his primary form. Soresu was. And he used a lot of force attacks; he used a lot of lax form 6 blade work and staunch form 3 defense and threw a lot of force attacks.. He MAY have relied more on his strength once he was fat bald and old, but until then he was more of a finesse duelist.
And, 38 years old is not “his species’ physical peak” , your physical peak is a whole decade before that. About 28….. Also Satele Shan was not “still a knight” during the sacking of Coruscant she LITERALLY became the Grandmaster of the Order 2 years later..
And what?? No, Kenobi has NEVER bested Dooku in a duel; he was quite literally ragdolled every time they ever met.. Anakin was the one that had to bail him out multiple times…. Dude, Kenobi had his “impenetrable soresu guard” broken about 7 separate times on Mustafar; Vader purposely prolonged that conflict to prove just how superior he was. He was dominating him the entire time and wanted to show him that, beat him in every way. The SAME mistake of literally every other newly anointed Sith Lord drunk with power…. Vader dominated. No, He could not “handle” his raged induced power strikes. He literally had to give ground the entire time until he was able to bait Vader into one mistake SOLELY due to the state of mind he was in at the time. Like Lucas himself clearly said it was a complete fluke Vader lost on Mustafar…. Yea, Kenobi would definitely beat Darth Baras, he’s no Darth Vader; but my point is that people blatantly try to overhype Kenobi’s block-or-die performance on Mustafar; he literally couldn’t DO anything else. He was facing the juggernaut. The most dominant offensive powerhouse & duelist in history.
I have a request for a versus Series: Kylo Ren Vs Darth Caedus
Darth Caedus would win easily
I don’t want to say Caedus stomps but.....ya Caedus stomps.
That's like comparing Dooku or Maul to Savage Opress. Caedus is a scholar who studied almost every single Force cult and their abilities in the galaxy, has trained with other great Masters (and defeated or contended with 3 of them), uses gadgets in a duel, has actually trained in unharmed martial arts and is a war veteran who carries the scars of the Yuuzhan Vong.
Kylo is a self-entitled little bitch who has little experience with other trained Force users, his kills being two inexperienced Jedi trainees, one of them being an accidental kill, and some asshole who thought he was tough just because he declared himself Master of a bunch of thugs. The rest being animals, Wild Space tribal aliens without blasters, Resistance fodder and was beaten by a scavenger who had just discovered she was Force sensitive mere HOURS before. His battlefield experience is nowhere near that Caedus', and his use of the Force is sparse and inconsistent.
Caedus curbstomps him completely.
To put it into perspective : Caedus is an accomplished Sith Inquisitor who uses both mundane and unorthodox tactics to achieve his goals.
Kylo is a low-tier Sith Acolyte with great raw power who rebranded himself as a Sith Warrior-like figure, but is too untrained, too inconsistent and too unstable to be an actual threat against true Masters.
It’ll be the shortest match ever 😂
Caedus uses memory walk to find Kylo’s innermost fears and strike him down with a single strike of his lightsaber. That’s if Caedus even needs his Saber and just destroys Kylo Ren through use of the Force alone.
It’s still a match I want to see though
