Thanks for the tips! awesome work. Tip for you, if you want to toggle all plugins off and on for a track try holding alt and command and clicking on the row you want to turn off.
Thanks for another great video! Just a heads up, if you press shift-A, all plug-ins/inserts will be bypassed on any highlighted channels in one stroke! For sends it’s shift-Q! 🙏🏻
awesome video! Just a side note for those that don’t know - the Pultec EQ will add 1gb of again just by inserting the plugin (same as hardware) make sure the increase in gain is not fooling you. Great work as always!
SSL style compressors just work so well on drums. It’s kind of crazy how long they’ve been a thing and yet still are so ubiquitous. Almost always end up on my drums somewhere. Can do glue, can do punch, can do both :) love the channel ‼️🙏
When mixing songs with both 808s and kicks- I’ve often noticed that certain notes of the 808 pattern are out of phase with the kick, but only certain notes. So, I end up having to split the 808 melody into 2 separate tracks, one track with the polarity flipped, the other not. And this is both before and after processing… Why is this?
Hey Streaky, it would be interesting to watch a video on your music influences, what genres/artists you enjoy to listen to and master. More of a personal video than a tutorial, but it would be interesting nonetheless, I think.
how do you record your tutorials? I am trying to capture my voice and also record my internal sounds but I cant, I use OBS Studio as a screen recorder and I am on protools 12... I would appreciate any help. Cheers
Hey, streaky how did you create the 808 kick sound? Love the sound. Edit: God you're so good so accurate I love it. You didn't put FabFilterQ3 on Linear Phase is there no point doing it? Is it better keeping it at zero latency?
@@FriedrichHabetlerMusic Yeah, pre-ringing is most noticeable on transients, so kicks and other drums are quite susceptible to it. I think that it's less noticeable when only cutting, but when boosting a lot with a higher order filter/high Q-factor it will become more noticeable. So if you are boosting with a linear phase EQ, try to keep the boosts as small as possible and with a very gentle curve.
In cubase 5 i can only send to output bus in either stereo or mono, which one should i chose? I got confused because bus 1 & 2 is not an available option for me (for which you chose stereo) but you chose mono in fabfilter bus 1... love the channel by the way your small tweaks in mastering really works wonders!
HI Streaky I have a question: wouldn't the sub sound quite similar if you just turned its level up? the difference made by the saturarion and eq seem mostly volume-related to my ears although there's subtle harmonic changes going on
Hi Streaky , hope you're fine , the tips you do with the dynamic eq that ducks the bass when the kick hits , ( sidechain ) , is that similar to what the plugin trackspacer does ? or is it more like sidechain compression ?
If Softube would just add a damn output gain to that Saturation Knob it would be so much better. It seems like such a small thing, but jumping between the saturation and then an extra plugin for gain is a draining task lol
In ableton you can put the plugins in a rack and then map the saturation knob and another volume knob to a macro knob, and then invert the volume knob min and max. Then you can use just one knob
Thanks for the help, I'm a producer by trade but tryna learn engineering to diversify my skill set! All your content is really helping me out. For a future video could please show us how you would go about mixing a Piano? It's something I struggle with alot!
@@Streaky_com the softube one as well, there is no gain compensation and if you look at your levels they are way different. Still I appreciate the video ;)
Hey! I’ve got a question! The plugins you use on your 808 seem to push the volume quiet alot! It does sound really good but how do you know that this is the right amount of energy added? Had you not tried to balance the kick to the 808 before adding the plugins? If you would have had the tracks balanced, then would you pull the volume back down? Thank you!!
This aint it... that sounds like shit. If you actually listen to pro songs these days there is a trick they are using that just isn't on youtube. They aren't using a top kick like this anymore sidechained to the sub... they are making the 808 the whole kick and they are making it punch in a way that you didn't know your speaker could move. Anyone who has tried this knows how hard it is to get that... I'm still trying to figure it out -- boosting the literal sub frequencies can't really be heard and eventually just sound messy and unpleasant. Too much saturation takes away from the lows and doesn't make the 808 hit any harder.
Keep the motivation flowing!
Ive watched ur videos and started becoming a pro now my mixes are awesome
Higher higher you will keep going
Love you more

Hallo Streaky! I have watched all your videos. You are great! Thank you!
I like your content Bro, you are straight to the point.
Check out three free pultec emulations: RARE and RARESE (analog obsession) and PTEq-X (I forget where this one is). PTEq-X is the most versatile.
I love you're video and I love you're energyyy
Great vid streaky keep em coming 👍
Hey Streaky could you do a video about Clippers?
Hi 🙋♀️ Streaky. Nice one 👍 thanks 🙏
Talking about 808. I d be happy to see a video on how to get a nice 808 in a techno context.

great question! i'd like to hear the answer.
Hey Streaky, where to get the 808 you used for the tutorial ? :)
Come on people who can you not subscribe? These vids are soo helpful

Sounds good on AKG K702's. Thanks. Best : D
Nice !
i like to distort 808 more
when you add those plugins the 808 volume just gets a little bit louder and you should balance the volume
7:31 Shift + A Streaky
Soundtoys Little Radiator is great for this as well :)
Brilliant 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Why Do you not use a compressor on the 808?
Didnt knew the q3 can do this, nice
Hi Streaky, can you do a review on akg k-812

Should my kick or 808 be louder in the mix?
Thank you!
Why you don't cut under 20hz? I saw your past stream.
❤️

Edit: God you're so good so accurate I love it. You didn't put FabFilterQ3 on Linear Phase is there no point doing it? Is it better keeping it at zero latency?
linear phase can introduce pre ringing. it’s usually most noticeable on kicks and alike. natural phase would be the better option in that case.
@@EpithetMusicTV Thanks for the reply. Ah ok so you mean it's more in the lower part you can hear? Can you recommend me a video?

Awesome tutorials, very helpful! Do you ever gain stage for the saturation you add?
Can you release an 808 kit
Good tips in this video but I didn't see you apply any gain staging
I don't understand the send technique for the side chaining though?
You send the signal to a bus then use the bus as the trigger

Yeah tour right you’re getting a lot of the sound by using the eq to lift the level more juice
very very good
Man I have been having the hardest time to get my beats to jump like I want and then I seems my mix is always good but low 😖the struggle
