The problem with the HBM2 is that capacity is directly correlated to bandwidth. If you want 1tbps, it must be 16gb. I thought HBM2E halved the throughput meaning you'd need 32gb for 1tbps but I may have misread.
Hbm2 doesnt halve the bandwidth. It improves on the speed from previous HBM2. The problem that might end up being is heat generation. These new purported speeds on HBM2e memory goes against the philosophy of it(HBM), which is, wide and slow.
ok, it increases the bandwidth per stack, but also doubles the capacity per stack. The speed isn't more than double HBM2 though. So for the same capacity, the HBM2E works out to be slower. At least this is from what I've seen. Though I guess since it's not a consumer facing product, that it is possibly they make just 4 stack high modules that would be 4GB capacity like HBM2 used in the Vega cards. That would in theory deliver about 1.9 tbps over the same 16GB capcity the Vega cards only get about 1 tbps with. But all I have really seen are chips with 16GB capacity. Meaning 32GB would be about 1tbps as with the Vega, but done with half the chips.
news.skhynix.com/hbm2e-opens-the-era-of-ultra-speed-memory-semiconductors/ Well this does show some of the specs side by side. 50% bandwidth increase, but doubled capacity. Meaning for the same capacity, bandwidth is reduced unless you used reduced stack height. Like if you had used 8GB stacks of HBM2 and and of HBM2E. But in this case it looks like AMD would have to use 8GB stacks meaning that in order to have higher bandwidth than Radeon VII, 24GB (3x 4hi stacks) of RAM is required. And it's only 38% increased bandwidth over Radeon VII, and that's using their increased speed version. With the original design speed it's only a 20% increase in bandwidth.

It could be a multitude of reasons. One theory is that bad news spreads panic, and panic gets clicks, and advertising on exaggerated fake news is bad for an advertiser's brand. Nobody wants to see their company associated in any way with misery and death. We know how TH-cam is desperate to keep content advertiser friendly, so there is likely some truth to this. Another theory is that snake oil salesmen want to capitalise on the misery and death of others, so they're removing financial incentives for the woo peddlers to use TH-cam as their platform of choice. Mention of the issues will likely also get content pushed down in the algorithm, getting less views. I haven't had anything recommended that was explicitly about the current healthcare scares, so there is likely credence to this theory in the algorithm pushing such content away from subscribers. A final theory that I've heard is that governments are putting pressure on TH-cam to not let panic and "misinformation" spread (aka accurate *and* inaccurate reporting both) that could make governments look bad. I don't know enough about censorship to offer insight on this theory, but it seems a little far fetched to me.
For Phil's theory 2, I get tons of new recommendations on the subject of coronavirus. Mostly found channels I have never seen. So the theory currently stands on no ground. (Note: Phil's case + my case = 2 cases if this isn't obvious.) Btw re: both theory 1 & 2, having seen enough media propagating myths -- including by youtubers, I would put in the filter artificially if I was the CEO of TH-cam.
huh. h61. never realized they disappeared. gigabyte has a glut of "brand new" H61m-ds2 boards. i'd really love a "new" z77 board, though. my old 3570k is stuck on an h61 and the z77 used by my 3770k living room pc has failing ram slots (i keep explaining this to people who see the two sticks next to each other and not running on dual channel).
Yeah, h61 was supposed to be a long lived chipset, to support the long-lived CPU models from that generation. They're used in industrial, etc applications where you want to replace a failed unit with the same hardware for guaranteed compatibility or certification reaaons. This is probably a case where biostar could no longer get a chip on their previous design, so they updated the design. This happens. People surprised by this stuff have no experience with long term support arrangements from both amd and Intel.
Just to preface this, doing good is not a matter of scale. Doing good is doing good, it is laudable, and it is great to see the community come together like this. But it really hits it home what the difference in scale is between even GamersNexus, one of the best tech channels out there, and some of the gaming channels, when these charity events happen.
At 11:03 did you mean to say that GPU market share including iGPUs is 63% Intel, 19% AMD and 18% nvidia. And for discrete only it's 73% nvidia and 27% AMD?
Did the 20.2.2 revision fix any of the issues for the RTG driver? Just curious since I haven't had any issues and I noticed in the release notes that this driver version was supposedly released to address the black screen issue.
Full memory encription is a risk. Another point of failure, and one already exploited. Seems more like a way to spin a feature for their software partners (harder to reverse engeneer) as a security feature
Anyone else remember the Core2Quad days when AMD made fun of Intel for basically stacking two dual cores and then touting they(AMD) had a "true" quad core CPU? My how things have changed.
@Dat Boii Got rid of mine (four of them) a year ago, stripped the boards down and took then to best buy for a good recycle. They lasted a long time but they bottled-necked a 670 card so I was done upgrading. They were also getting pretty slow for gaming. Going to a 2700x and a 1070ti was quite the experience.
7:52 From AMD's perspective, does it matter? If it makes more people buy their graphics cards, would excessive VRAM be beneficial to them overall? It hurts their margins, but increases their total sales. Many people assume that VRAM capacity is a direct reflection of GPU performance.
ST got full memory encryption working 10+ years ago, and 5+ years ago got changing keys on full memory encryption with changing keys even second. but the problem with memory encryption is low power mode, want to do with the keys, stronger encryption is needed over low power, and checking that no-one has changed the ram while in low power mode (they did get it to work, just before laying of the team that got it to work)

Super cool of you to do this auction of Australia wildlife ❤️
Wow, congrats on collecting such a massive amount for Aussie wildlife! Well done, GN & community!
Steve, props to you and the GN team for your support of great causes!
Absolutely incredible work on the charity donations! ❤️🇦🇺
You rock! Nice effort on the OZ Wildlife Fire support.
Stellar job everyone! 19k raised. Cheers to Steve and the rest of GN.
Full memory encryption.. and corruption integrity from failed overclocking.... Buildzoid knows what I'm talking about
with 3 screen 4k setup you could use 24GB
Awesome, Thanks for working so hard for social problems. My Hat off to you guys, and all the great people that ordered and helped to raise such a great amount of money!
Meaning 32GB would be about 1tbps as with the Vega, but done with half the chips.
news.skhynix.com/hbm2e-opens-the-era-of-ultra-speed-memory-semiconductors/
Well this does show some of the specs side by side.
Bit late but I received my charity shirt this week, got an awesome shirt and thanks for the mammoth effort to help support the bushfires!

GN HW news fresh from the press, well, I guess 20 minutes less won't hurt anyone. :D
4day fresh, amd fix 5700 for some users who don't know to instal drivers, will be a fresh news on friday for gn
Wow! The funds raised for the animal survivors of the Australian fires is amazing.

Thx from Australia, ordering from the GN store soon.
Awesome job on the previous, recent and ongoing animal rescue support from GN and the community! This generosity and selfless concern is why I watch every GN video ad.
This morning, from ga*****ld: "Finally, big navi, the Nvidia killer, is just weeks ahead!"
Me: "OK let's see what GN report"
GN: brought this video.
Feel confused about those too-good-to-be-true rumors? Check GN for answer. That's my philosophy.
this guy really doesnt adress rumors well imo... he just takes what he wants and then
"YEEEHAW BIG NAVI KILLER XDDDD"
Ugh, I hate how this guy believes every single thing and screams those rumors to me...
who?
@@1toW4mB0to9 Sorry but might not be a good idea to say it directly. You can search, however, the amd related news, and you sure will find someone's video thumbnail always look like "AMD has, and will always, destroy any other company in this world!". That's the ga*****ld I censored here.

Moving backwards in time for motherboards. Waiting for a refreshed socket 754 line. 😁
honestly I need a new mobo for my 2500K, its an okay chip for esports titles and older games ,plus its been sitting in my room for 3 years.

Much love to Gamers Nexus, for thinking about all the animals killed in our wildfires. Over a Billion animals were wiped out in such a short amount of time, god bless and kudos.
The shirt design is awesome, glad I was able to order one :)
Apart from that it is BS...
6:15 unnamend AMD GPU? When it says 5950XT right next to it?
Steve as an Australian I just want to say - You're a fucking beast. Thank you for your kindness.
I was craving a Gamers Nexus video. Hit refresh and was not disappointed
I will laugh my ass of when they make a card with those specs or very close. Because everyone and I mean everyone said that a 16 core mainstream cpu would not be made last year with Zen 2. And I mean everyone said that.
Lost job today here to watch tech that i cant have thanks for updates with tech love the videos
11:08 Steve says the GPU market share split is 73% nvidia, 19% AMD, 18% Intel (110%)
Then at 11:23 he says it’s 63% nvidia, 19% AMD, 18% Intel (100%)
I think he meant to say GPU including iGPU is 63% Intel, 19% AMD and 18% nvidia. And for descrete only it's 73% nvidia and 27% AMD

Diatomaceous earth is a powder containing about 80%-90% silica, also the powder allows liquids to flow through while capturing unwanted material, such as whales and bumble bees.
Why does TH-cam not like the C word?
I don't know enough about censorship to offer insight on this theory, but it seems a little far fetched to me.
gotta keep those advertisers happy.
Probably triggers a false positive for youtube's efforts to stop fake news and conspiracy videos on the topic.
For Phil's theory 2, I get tons of new recommendations on the subject of coronavirus. Mostly found channels I have never seen. So the theory currently stands on no ground. (Note: Phil's case + my case = 2 cases if this isn't obvious.)
Btw re: both theory 1 & 2, having seen enough media propagating myths -- including by youtubers, I would put in the filter artificially if I was the CEO of TH-cam.
Awesome on the charity fund Steve!
huh. h61. never realized they disappeared. gigabyte has a glut of "brand new" H61m-ds2 boards. i'd really love a "new" z77 board, though. my old 3570k is stuck on an h61 and the z77 used by my 3770k living room pc has failing ram slots (i keep explaining this to people who see the two sticks next to each other and not running on dual channel).
Hey GN. Can't wait for the shirt to arrive. How many did you end up selling anyway?
Also thanks from NSW, Australia! 🙂
Seems more like a way to spin a feature for their software partners (harder to reverse engeneer) as a security feature
totally agree with you.
The new Biostar board is LGA 1155, not LGA 2011.
I'm not worrying about it until I have it, that goes for everything.

From AMD's perspective, does it matter? If it makes more people buy their graphics cards, would excessive VRAM be beneficial to them overall? It hurts their margins, but increases their total sales. Many people assume that VRAM capacity is a direct reflection of GPU performance.
ST got full memory encryption working 10+ years ago, and 5+ years ago got changing keys on full memory encryption with changing keys even second. but the problem with memory encryption is low power mode, want to do with the keys, stronger encryption is needed over low power, and checking that no-one has changed the ram while in low power mode (they did get it to work, just before laying of the team that got it to work)
"doesn't make sense now..." Give it the next major release that has quad supersampled AA and 16k textures.
