I tend to use markers or pencils for the same sort of thing when it comes to blurays where the box or slipcover is bashed in places. Flatten out then use the pen to hide the noticeable damage. Not noticeable unless you're really looking for it. I also like how the red fabric you added to the boots gives an extra layer of protection for the suit itself. You're not going to have the foot wearing away at the hole anymore, making it worse.
You can tell the Spiderman with the broken leg was well loved, all the battles he went through and having his damage repaired until one day the building he leapt was just too perilous
Spider-Man was probably my first ever pop media love back in the early 80s. I remember having a Spidey school bag for my first day of school circa 1983. I remember watching the cartoon with his Amazin Friends and had a dress-up costume in my early primary school days. I have one hand of this doll leftover from those days so I'm guessing I had one back then rather than it being my brother's. The broken leg brought back memories (can't remember if it was this or my CHiPS figure of Ponch, or both, but I do remember that floppy leg inside the sealed costume.
Oh.... this mego Spiderman brings back memories for me. This is one of toys that I did have along with the human torch and hulk, sadly all three figures 'disappeared'. I really enjoyed this video, nice trip down memory lane for me.
I rather like the more prominent dark lines on the secondary Spider-Man head. I used to have a bunch of the superhero megos as a kid. A what seemed like an endless amount of playing I did with them.
What has puzzled me is that my old vintage Spidey had a flesh coloured torso and (if memory serves) flesh coloured arms too, because I remember looking under the costume and gleefully thinking it really is Peter Parker under there!
Just loving the work of the Master bringing Mego Spidey back to life!! I believe the all red Mego body was originally done for the Human Torch. And I always thought it would be great to have an all red body for Spidey! Apparently, I'm not the only fan who had this fun idea ! TOY ON!!
My favorite all time toy when I was a kid. My Mom never bought me one bcus we were poor but my friend gave me his bcus he had two and I loved that Spiderman toy forever. I ended up losing it years later while playing. 😢
Spider-Man and Green Goblin were some of the few Mego figures that I kept when I cleared out my toy collection prior to a big move a few years ago. I have a more heavily played with Spider-Man in a storage bin as a backup. They're just standing in a display cabinet so I think they'll last a long time. These figures really were the greatest as advertised!
I had a "fighting fists" Spiderman which had red hands but otherwise was a standard flesh body. Palitoy I believe. the only red bodied supe I had in the 70s was Human Torch. The achilles heel of these fighting figures i always found was "cup" at the top of the arm that popped onto the "mushroom" at the shoulder eventually got strained and the arm would keep dislocating.
These came out great, Dave! Mego dolls are a bit before my time, but I've run across similarly constructed toys over the years, and always found them fun to play with and customize.
Another costume variant had a circular web pattern around the front spider; that may have been an earlier version or at least a rarer one. Also, my Spidey had pink body with red hands; the pink of his torso would show over the top of the costume and that drove me nuts. :)
Spider mego always one my frav ones colours pop on it.they both look great .i like the one you did up most with spare parts .and not perfect .i will need go hunting now .take care .look forward next mego repair
Nice save on those Spidey suits! I have used those types of fabric markers for over 2 decades. They work really well too. Here is a pro tip: You can depress the ink tip into your paint area. Like the blue. Then do the same with the black. Slightly mix them and then you will get a darker blue which would be a closer match the to blue on the suit. These fabric paint pens are acrylic based. So your can mix the paints to get other colors just like regular acrylic paints.
0:28 The sock webs bow away from the body on the left and right Spideys. Andrew Garfield on the right there, the webs bow towards the body. Kinda weird (also the correct way, ha!). I had a Spidey doll with suckers on the feet and hands. I feel like the patterning was very similar, although the head was larger and rounder. (EDIT: foam body with wire armature, fully integrated mittens) Feel pretty sure that unlike my Star Trek The Motion Picture dolls, they weren't bootleggy (a sentence unlocking memories). Great job as always, Dave. My favourite character, my favourite costume (the blue!). Have to resist the urge to track down one of my own!
Of the 2 Mego spidermen I had as a kid had pink bodies with red hands and obviously his red heads. One of them had a levet/button on his back to move his arm as if he was shooting a web
Lots of variations exist for the Spider-man outfit, and yes, that appears to be a Human Torch body. Great end results! I wonder if Sharpie would provide a better match for the dark blue?
Enjoyed the video. New subscriber. I believe there are 8 variations of the spiderman mego outfit (as presented by the MEGO MUSEUM) Through the years, they were made at different factories. I've had a very clean (71 body 72 head) mego spidey in my collection for years! Great piece...again, really enjoyed!✌️
You do such a wonderful job and I do this for a living also and I love your channel thank you I learn things every time I watch. Unfortunately the market has gone down the tubes so badly it's very sad but if you like to just restore this stuff it's kind of nice cuz I'm getting it pretty cheap nowadays very sad
It would have been a good source, but I no longer have that as I gave it to someone who was fixing up a human torch. So it's already gone to a good home.
Would Rit Dye work on the body parts if you wanted them red? I use it on Tamiya RC car wheels to change the colour and it works a treat if the colour you want is darker than the one it currently is.
My original, vintage Mega Spider-Man 8 inch figure, from back in the day, (and sadly no longer with me) had a pink body with only red hands. I always thought the complete red body came with the Mego Human Torch figure?
Not sure where it is or if I still have it but my mego Spider-Man only had red hands the rest of his body was pink. Might have been a later model. I’m 98% sure
Have you considered using plastic glue or some ultra thin glue to repair the leg at the knee or is it the weird plastic that doesn't work with those glues?
It's plastic that really doesn't want to stick. I have repaired the larger 12 inch figures with reinforcements hidden inside. But it's just not easy to do on these smaller legs.
@@toypolloi about a Spider-Man that had a red body contacted someone and they said that is what it was so I did some research and sure enough he was right and he's very knowledgeable and I found a head and a uniform luckily and sold it for a ton of money. Really enjoy watching you live do the same thing on migo only but I've learned some other things from you too thank you very much for your return comment.
Was looking into getting one of these recently... the OG Spiderman toy!
It's a classic figure.
Well done. Definitely a huge improvement. Looks fantastic.
Thanks a ton!

Thank you for the note book and stickers. 🙂🙂🙂
Unfortunately, the Mego Spider-Man I had as a kid (which I loved) is long lost in the mists of time. It was great to see one brought back to life.

I Had this spiderman toy in the late 70's ... along with Batman, robin and superman.
As someone who was lucky enough to get a MEGO Spidey back in the late-90s, I'm happy that you now have a nicely repaired figure.
Mego is the most fun to restore I think

Great work Dave
Thanks Dave! Great vid

If only I could sew half as good as you... Thanks Dave.
Just have a go. I am not that good at sewing. The more I do, the more I am learning.
That’s a Human Torch body that a previous owner used as a replacement for Spider-Man because of the red hands.
Could be.
Yes. I had two of these spiderman figures, so loved the first one fell to bits, the hands are red but the body is flesh coloured.

I took a black ball point pen and filled in the lines on my Spider-Man's mask. It really made the figure more comic accurate.
Mego Spider-Man is such an epic figure! The red patch on the feet was a clever solution.
I gotta say the spidey head with the lines drawn in looks better.
I agree, In fact I would like to see it all done over with a Gundam marker.
"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology..."
Wrong show! 🤣
That’s all it is Dave a leap of faith
its nice to see batsy stepping up for spidey..bad joke i know hahaha
Spider mego always one my frav ones colours pop on it.they both look great .i like the one you did up most with spare parts .and not perfect .i will need go hunting now .take care .look forward next mego repair
Hey Dave
Great figures and costume repairs.
Take care😊
Edit; Was good hearing the washing up song.🙂
Thanks 👍

Thanks for the tip. I will give that a try.
Nice work once again Dave! I quite like spider man with the skin colour hands. Great video mate!
I like the flesh colour hands after all Peter Parker is human
Collection video when?
I much prefer the inked lines on the second head. It's closer to being accurate to the comic book and movie costume.

As the "web lines" are not easily removable, I would go the whole way and give it a proper black wash to bring them out.
Our beagle chewed up my Mego Spider-Man when I was a small child.
Ouch
Amazing 🤩 Spider 🕷️ Man 🧍♂️
Of the 2 Mego spidermen I had as a kid had pink bodies with red hands and obviously his red heads. One of them had a levet/button on his back to move his arm as if he was shooting a web
Blue Sharpie might cover up that crotch seam a bit better, it's darker and "soaks in" a bit better than most fabric markers.
FYI: Pull the arm out and then attach the leg, then reattach the arm. It's much easier.
Lots of variations exist for the Spider-man outfit, and yes, that appears to be a Human Torch body. Great end results! I wonder if Sharpie would provide a better match for the dark blue?
Spidey's right arm is pushed into the body. Might have to swap the red torso for another torso.

Thanks for the sub! And info!
Rit dye synthetic do a red colour that would likely work really well on the hands or any other flesh parts.

I used permanent red marker on one of mine and it was a perfect match and the white fray was gone.
I believe there's five different Spider-Man outfits but I've seen two other ones that might be misprints or I don't know so I'm going to say 7.
I’m surprised you didn’t use the leg from the broken human torch you have to replace the leg.
It would have been a good source, but I no longer have that as I gave it to someone who was fixing up a human torch. So it's already gone to a good home.
I need a Spidey outfit. You wouldn't want to sell that extra one would you?
Would Rit Dye work on the body parts if you wanted them red? I use it on Tamiya RC car wheels to change the colour and it works a treat if the colour you want is darker than the one it currently is.
Nice video!
Didn't have the Human Torch Mego a red.body?

Is the red body the human flames body? If it is it would be rare does it have mego markings on it
It could be. I know some Spidermen came with a red chest. It's all original mego.

You could have paintet the new leg.
