One thing I can say for Michael, Jackson’s father. He was overly strict and abusive. The one thing he didn’t do was stole his money. A lot of parents stole their kids money, but he never did.
Also, Joe was always there for his kids! During MJ's drug addiction, during his extortion trials, etc. Joe was there. He loved his kids, but had a hard time showing it. In a book he wrote, he said that seeing Michael with Lisa Marie Presley, and how much they loved each other, was so moving to him. YES, Joe loved his son! And I am not trying to minimize the abuse, but we ALL got hit back in the day! Belts, wooden spoons, a tree branch, YES, we pretty much ALL got hit! True. Also, people forget how poor they were they forget that they live in the ghetto amongst gangs. Joe was desperate not to let his sons fall victim to gangs or his daughters become teen moms. Joe won!!!
This comment is so fucking dumb because the parent is actually supposed to be the protector. Especially if you’re putting your child in showbiz it’s LITERALLY YOUR JOB to protect them and advocate for them. Just look at Zendaya. Her parents truly protected her from the horrors of hollyweird and she’s as successful as she can be, and she’s still sane and mentally healthy. Compared to other child stars like MJ and Britney who’s parents just saw them as a cash cow and put the career before the child’s feelings and mental health. They were absolutely tormented.
Yea Joe Jackson would molest all the kids but he did Michael the least you can check it out in Latoya's book he did it to Latoya the most then after she moved out Janet got the worst of it like everyday for years.
That wasn't his father, it was being a child star and the king of pop. He has 9 other siblings that weren't as damaged as he was, so it wasn't the strict discipline.
He psychologically abused him and the mother. They would have been successful regardless. Telling Michael he’s ugly is so messed up and bullying him . Michael wanted to be in the band unlike his brothers who were forced
It depends, I lived in fear when I knew I was doing wrong and knew the consequences of getting my (_:_) whipped, but when I did right by my parents no fear at all.
It depends, I feared my parents when I knew I was doing wrong and I knew the consequences was going to be a (_:_) whipping, but when I did right by my parents no fear at all.
That’s the way it was then, Joe like James Brown’s dad and my dad , didn’t take nooo mess James wrote a song about it, and yes I was afraid of the old man too, as I should’ve been he kept me anchored to reality and let me know that there were consequences that could lead to bad repercussions and that’s what his ass whoppings was about. He even thanked me and my brother later in our adult lives for him never having to go down to the police station to pick us up. Thank you pops and I miss you tremendously now that you’re gone 😢.
Joe Jackson did just what he needed to do. He ruled with a iron hand with tuff love of discipline. He had an American dream for his boys. Need more black fathers like this. Perhaps it would save more young black lives.
bruh no he didnt do wut he needed to do, u never need to hurt ur kid. MJ was traumatized for the rest of his life and it wasnt worth it. iron hand aint everything, we need less black fathers like this. abuse isnt justifiable
But Joe also molested all the boys but he did it to Michael the least because he would fight and scream while the other boys just did it. Then later he molested Latoya everyday then she moved out and he started doing it to Janet the most.
Please stop talking. Stop normalizing and justifying abuse! You can instill discipline without instilling fear abuse and intimidation. Nothing wrong with showing compassion but still achieving and teaching greatness. Michael obviously exuded talent beyond compare he didn’t need to be subjected to those heinous actions. He was still a child and children deserve respect kindness and empathy. If you can’t understand that as an adult then you shouldn’t have kids. In the community, Black people are so complacent in abuse against their children and often pass it off as humorous or normal, it’s neither! The children suffer the most by that mentality and that’s the downside of it. It’s not an American dream it’s a nightmare.
I suppose Dad Jackson struggled with keeping the personal family life and business life apart from each other while raising his children. He may have been too focused on striving for his sons' success during their musical careers that he forgot to be a regular father to them all instead of just their manager.

I think even though Joe was strict and disaplined Mike and his brothers. The upside I believe helped them to be the best they could be. Joe knew how hard it was to make it because he failed at it and wanted the best for his sons. Even though he went a bit over board.
Marshall discipline came from the slave times. Black fathers raised their kids like that because their fathers raised them like that. Joe and katherine raised the best musical family in the world, period🤷🏿
Our dad was strict with us and hit us with belts, shoes, hands. We stayed having our dad in our lives too. I didn't let being hit bother me. I just dealt with it and moved on. Michael Jackson probably had worse abuse than we did.
Michael talked about a woman in Virginia wanted to know where Michael was. When she realized that Michael had grown into a teenager, she was very disappointed. If you ask me, there is more truth to this story than Joe Jackson denigrating him.
If Joe was " abusive" during that time then all of our parents were abusive. We all got our ass whooped, Mike made money from his we just learned discipline. Jermaine said it . Joe was stern and hard white people interpret that to being abused.
How can ppl make excuses for him. If it wasn’t for him he wouldn’t be famous blah blah blah. If it wasn’t for him he also wouldn’t be mentally tormented and disturbed. Being strict on your kids and giving them tough love is fine. I get it, sometimes you need to be a little harsh on em but at the same time, they shouldn't be terrified of you.
MJ loved his father. Anyone who has a father from the 1950s knows fathers aren't perfect. Joe was born in 1928. A father's job is to discipline, structure, and protect. Not to coddled BS. Any issues go get therapy. Without Joe, Mike wouldn't have reached greatness. Y'all need to stop playin'.
@cynthiafernandezhaliday9448 Yeah, as a BW that had a strict father, a lot of kids (black kids particularly) need more Joe's in the house. If we had more Joe's, I guarantee you Black kids would be well-behaved.
Totally agree, if i was famous and told about the A**'whippings i got as a kid from my mom's, the public would paint picture more than it was.Joe raised 10 kid's during the 60& 70s, .
Unless you was bought up in the ghetto, I'm not sure you'd understand. Joe was a great father. Great. All his kids made something of themselves, none ever went to jail. None ever got killed, and none was on drugs a kid. Michael wasn't a father so I'm not sure he'd understand how hard that is. Did he have to whoop them when they messed up a dance move, no he didn't. That's scary for a kid. But I won't call him a bad father.
I think Joe did damn Good personally. None of them became criminals and horrible ppl. MJ was sensitive and rightfully so he became so big at such a young age. He had to deal with a conflicting society where ppl didn't like blacks but loved him. Like this wasn't just Joe. I never heard them say Catherine was beat up, I never heard them say any of them were flat out beat down. He talked shit and probably said stuff to push them that was hurtful. Still wrong but they didn't grow up in some horrific horror house!
It’s crazy nobody bashes Terrace Crawford mother as much as they bash Joe Jackson and he the one that actually made all his kids successful and terrace Crawford didn’t even teacher her son how to box…
I think that people also have to understand how Joseph’s upbringing informed and influenced his parenting. Not excusing anything, but just do a quasi root analysis. Joe was born during the Jim Crow era. Life was extremely, extremely hard and traumatic for Black people and that impacted the family dynamic immensely.
listen my dad was very strict and very straight forward and i didn't end up on the streets and have a successful and blessed career, so dad's going to be dad's 🤷🏻♂️

We didn't need such heavy, strict, harsh discipline..U could still get us to climb a mountain by just being kind to us...and even when we did jump over that mountain ..some how it still didn't feel good enough until SHE approved it was..but I can't lie the hard parts of my life I remember my mom's advice and I'm thankful for it. @@Mone333Williams Thank you for your answer. I can guarantee that Michael loved his father!!! the fact that he was honest about his relation with his father doesn't mean lack of love. He said his father was a genius and that he loved them but he didn't know how to show it. In that recording with the Rabbi.
I’m a Virgo too
One thing I can say for Michael, Jackson’s father.
The more sensitive you were, the more it gave you trauma.
@@leahartlee29Michael was VERY sensitive. He took every strike and every insult from his father, his brothers, and from his fans, to heart. It hurt him deeply. Turned him into a malignant perfectionist.

True. Also, people forget how poor they were they forget that they live in the ghetto amongst gangs. Joe was desperate not to let his sons fall victim to gangs or his daughters become teen moms. Joe won!!!
They all have Joe Jackson's eyebrows and cheeks
These poor kids deserved so much better. Jackie, Tito (rip), Marlon, Michael (rip), Randy, and Janet were amazing people.
Joe didn't do nearly as much as the industry did to him sooo...
You said enough....they butchered him.. SMH 😢😢...REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER ❤
Fact.
You’re crazy, Joe PUSHED Michael into that environment. He literally sold his kids out and sacrificed them

“Discipline” and “Abuse” are two completely different things.
You could not be more wrong. Joe Jackson was evil and abusive.
@@DeniseFendi791 preach
No Michael did not hate his father. However, he dislike his father's strick discipline.
Thank God that the Children looked like their Mother... Joe is a 😢
Strict and demanding is another word for abusive.
Mj forgave his father why not say this as well,Joseph helped with the success of the Jackson 5 and Michael himself can't deny this fact
I suppose Dad Jackson struggled with keeping the personal family life and business life apart from each other while raising his children. He may have been too focused on striving for his sons' success during their musical careers that he forgot to be a regular father to them all instead of just their manager.
Say what u want about Joseph Jackson ..but he IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE for the Jackson 5/Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. He gave us 3 talented acts and made sure his children made something great of themselves. @@sjsjdjshwjwk2908absolutely my mother was Joseph Jackson but at the end of the day because of Joseph his children were strong enough and solid human beings. He did his best even if we don't agree with his method to madness. In the end it was because Joseph took his kids talent and molded their skills to greatness. He stayed up long hrs too, he worked too, he made a way for those children to be the greatest royal entertainment family to ever live. Joseph was wrong for ALOT of things and God can only judge him. But for me...I respect Joseph...if it wasn't for him his kids would just been singing in Gary indiana. It was Joseph that got them to Motown. Give the man some credit. And I saw Michael celebrate Joseph before and say what a great DAD he was along with what he didn't like about him. BUT you have to take the good with the bad back then.
