    Also, we made a mistake. We edited some maps for so many times and firstly we wanted to Refer to Poland-Lithuania as The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and then switched back to Poland-Lithuania, but unfortunately, we combined those 2 names in the one that you will see in the video: Polish-Lithuania... 🙄 Dumb things are happening sometimes. We are sorry for this. Thank you so much for watching our videos!

      @TheMilkDragon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      Command_Unit Ruthenia is usually referred to the lands of Belarussia and Ukraine under Lithuanian/Polish control. The Rus/Slavs there where calling themselves Rusyn before. Russia itself wasn’t “Russia” in the beginning and later adopted it as a official name of the country. I don’t like when Russians act as if everything evolved and diverged from “them”. The split already happened with the Rus Princess. If they are just eastern slavic dialects then why did they need translators between muscovite crown and cossacks in the Ukraine during 16-,17- and 18th century as a example. Belarussian and Ukrainian languages are distinct from Russian. And throughout systematic methods they where banned, frowned upon and regarded as lesser languages. If they where the same and just dialects, then why ban them? Different terminologies about who and what can be argued without an end. Modern Russians, Ukrainians and Belarussians have the same roots. And no one originated from the other ( language, culture, nationality)

      Earth is a planet because it meets the criteria to be classified as a planet. To be more specific, because of gravity pulling particles together to form larger and larger objects until they can be called planets.
      The grass is Green because cloraphil is green, grass is made up largely of cloraphil, which is the best colour to absorb enough sunlight to create energy for the plant.
      The Sky is blue because of the way light refracts through the atmosphere.

      People around the world pronounce countries differently. For example, Iran. In the UK, we say the I like the word igloo... i-ran. In USA, they say the I like the word eye... eye-ran. According to the soundbite on the Wikipedia page, the British say it right, but that doesn't mean we get everything right.
      We say Belarus like Bella-roos, not Bell-aruss. But we say Bella-Russian, not Bella-roosen. I have no idea if we get it right.
      We pronounce the S at the end of Paris, while the French don't. I just can't bring myself to say Pa-ree.
      Point being, there's lots of ways to pronounce places, and it varies around the world.

  • @Kasey1405
    @Kasey1405 3 ปีที่แล้ว +163

    This program misses the most important reason why Belarus is a separate nation. In 1569, when the unified Polish-Lithuanian kingdom was established, the territory of the present day Belarus and the territory of Lithuania retained the full autonomy within the Polish Kingdom and it retained the name "Grand Duchy of Lithuania". The local dialect of the original language called "Ruski" (predecessor of modern Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian) evolved into a separate language that differed from both Great Russian spoken to the east and Polish language that eventually became the official language of the Duchy of Lithuania. Therefore the Belarussian nation with it's own language was born. Later on, especially under the Soviet rule and partly due to horrendous loss of population in the II world war, the russification of Belarus ensued and most population switched to Russian. To summarize; the Belorussian nation is hundreds of years old and deserves it's own state.

    • @SERBIA1389SERBIA

      @matija5134 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So the language of Belarus is “ruski”? Do you understand that that actually means Russian? Which means Belarussians are not a separate nation at all, they are Russians.

    • @Kasey1405
      @Kasey1405 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@matija5134 Not quite. The true and original meaning of "Ruski" refers to the slavic language of Kievan Rus. Ruski was the base language for three separate East Slavic languages, similarly to Latin being a base for Romance languages in Europe. The part of Kievan Rus that remained free from Mongol rule eventually fell under the rule of the Grand Duchy pf Lithuania.(GDL) and the "Ruski" remained the language of the state until Polish took over. In 1569 GDL was reduced to it's northern reaches and remained a separate, autonomic part of the Kingdom of Poland and in that form existed for over 200 years, time long enough to local "Ruski" to evolve into a language diferent from "Ruski" spoken in Ukraine and in Muscovy. The word "Ruski" was used in the Kingdom of Poland for both Belorussian and Ukrainian until the modern meaning of Belorussian and Ukrainian took hold. The official language of Russian Empire appropriated the name "Russki" together with the imperial notion that it is the proper "Russki". The fact that Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian existed as separate languages was even recognized in the census of the Czarist Russia. The russification proceses in the course of the 20th century significantly reduced the extent of use and importance of both Balorussian annd Ukrainian.

I have had many friends in Ukraine, but now there's only one who still lives there, though he does so because his family can't afford to leave. So given their current situation, i don't think anyone would want them. That aside, they were in the same state for almost 1000 years already, so i don't see why it couldn't work again.

    Live of Vseslav the seer is really fun to read about. For example, Vseslav actually didnt rule Polotsk for 70 years straight, since there was one time when he was imprisoned by the prince of Kiev, but then said prince was overthrown and people of the city named Vseslav their new prince. He didnt rule there for long and soon returned to Polotsk, but it still was epic.

    7:10 slight mixing up of terminology there. The belarussian people's republic was communist. It was seized by Russia.

      We have a lot polish population in west Belarus in the other days. But after WW2 USSR transferred all poles to Poland. There were left just mixed families. My granny stayed, but all her sisters went to Poland

    Why do Westerners especially Bris and Yanks pronounce KIEV as (KEEV) thats a Russian pronunciation.
    There are two vowel sounds in Ukrainian. It is pronounced (kee uhv) slight accent on the "uhv"
    Just saying.
    At 4:53, did you really say the modern state of "bell AR us".
    Luhblin is pronounced LOOB- lin
    What's the point of making educational videos that misinforms people?

    Curious as to why you left out the Mongol invasion of the area. That was the death blow to the Kievan Rus.
