@@graememckay9972 you do realise that post COVID the train operators are either in contracts where they are paid a fee to operate trains or they are operated by public owned operators. Paying billions of pounds for illegals to stay in hotels is dragging this country down. Make cut backs on MPS expenses, stop energy allowance on second homes. Why can’t they make one single payment for each house rather than two if you are a couple and one if you live on your own.

As said many times by many - with total government spending at around £1,220 billion a year, this apparently £22 billion 'black hole' would be 1.8% of spending - in context, in a household spending £40k per year/£3.3k per month it would be £720 per year/£60 per month - hardly earth-shattering in context and being over-used to try and make a childish point in true perspective

By all means help for a humanitarian disaster, but only provide Tents, water purification equipment, field stoves, first aid kits, etc. from British companies, basically all the logistical equipment to put a roof over their heads, clean the water and to cook/boil water and also provide first aid. Do everything we can to help, EXCEPT send hard cash.

British companies are paying the highest electricity prices of anywhere in the developed world, official data has shown.
The cost of power for industrial businesses has jumped 124pc in just five years, according to the Government’s figures, catapulting the UK to the top of international league tables.
It is now about 50pc more expensive than in Germany and France, and four times as expensive as in the US.
The figures will fuel concerns about the future of UK industry amid warnings that high energy prices are crippling domestic manufacturers

Contract was 8 till 4, job and knock. Always finished late, started early to beat traffic, paperwork, collect deliveries - repairing appliances I was.
At 8pm, with a drum change still to do that will take approx 2 hours, I call boss, ask what he doing, he.at home. I asked for help, he said no. I said ok well we gonna have to do tomorrow, he said I need to finish the job.
I went home, got sacked the next morning.
Point is, I wasn't working weekends, but I never started at 8 or finished at 4, some weeks I be doing anything from 10-20 hours for free.
There's loads of people getting mugged off due to management failures, that's why companies have rapid turnover of staff, especially care industry, they don't pay in-between home visits.
