Kazuya basically needs for his philosophy to be true as a means of mitigating his own traumatic experiences. If all humans really are bastards, than everything he experiences is "normal" his "betrayal" by his mother was just greed motivated, and anyone's friends would sell out another in a pinch. However, if it isn't, his brother is genuinely more loved, he'll truly lack real friends for the rest of his life, and there's no real way to do that save of literally abandoning his life, which his father wouldn't allow.
Exactly. He was a twisted and sadistic individual like his father, but we could see the situations which brought Kazuya to that point, and like Kaiji, empathize/relate with him on some aspects.
There are a few different things: 1) Kazuya didn't intentionally give Kaiji the toothpick for opening the cheating box; he was flexing. Kaiji opened the box out of his luck. 2) Kazuya never saw himself as being "fair." That is more like Kaiji's observation. Kazuya was surprised when Kaiji called him "fair." 3) If you want me to compare Kazuya, he is more like a young adult version of Nolan's Joker. More specifically, an anti-Joker. He did many things Nolan's Joker has done and sees himself as a Joker-like villain. However, he did what he did not because he was the Crown Prince of Crime but because he was the Yakuza equivalent of Bruce Wayne. Many of his humorous dialogues with Kaiji also show him being an inexperienced young adult instead of a battel-harden career criminal. His life experience will definitely overlap with many Joker fans. 4) If the Japanese animation companies want to finally make the whole animation of Kazuya (not just the animation for the slot machine), I think Kazuya will deserve to be a cult favorite, like Kefka from Final Fantasy VI or Alex from A Clockwork Orange.
Best Kaiji villain imo! It almost felt like him and Kaiji were friends, yet at the same time they were fighting eachother for survival and their different philosophies. Even though Kazuya would've let Kaiji die with a smile on his face. I'm still glad Kaiji decided to save him. Even though he would've gotten what he deserved.
That was great, Kazuya is great antagonist, only topped by Tonegawa in Kaiji imo. Man, I want nothing more than a Kaiji season 3, it's probably not happening at this point but one can always dream.
Kazuya was my fav villain. He's charismatic, terrifying, and amusing, all at the same time. A great contrast to Kaiji. I do hope we get to see more of him in the future.
Kazuya has got to be my favorite villain in the series!! Him and kaiji had the best dynamic in the show it was amazing I really miss him I hope he makes an appearance soon :,)
Finished part 5 recently, Kazuya is absolutely fantastic. I wish more people would talk about the manga more, seems most people only know about the anime then stop there
After the manga starting giving me Akagi flashbacks when it took a detour into mahjong hell, I thought the anime might have been the last interesting Kaiji arc I'd ever experience. But I was thoroughly and thankfully proven wrong once Kazuya showed up. I never would have imagined the Salvation Game and One Poker arcs to be so thoroughly captivating, enough to rival the Espoir Arc, Brave Man's Road, E-Card, Underground Chinchirorin, and The Bog. While I found Kazuya entertaining throughout his appearances, I recall first coming to realize he was a top tier Kaiji villain at the beginning of the One Poker arc. It was right at that moment where he gets legitimately angry and calls out Kaiji for winning two hands using 2's against aces. It's such an amazing moment in Kaiji's history that gave Kazuya his own identity. Previous villains like Tonegawa and Ichigou would either have rigged the system such that freak events like that weren't possible, or it would have been rigged such that crazy things like that were done in Kaiji's favor to give him a false sense of security, like Tonegawa did during E-Card. With that opening hand, Kazuya is establishing that he's playing fair, that he has absurd luck from drawing two aces, and that he's on Kaiji's level in this fight. Had that scenario happened to any other villain, it would have been met with smug fake compliments or false surprise. But Kazuya's reaction was genuine, and it felt genuine. When he freaked out to Kaiji's good luck, I believed him, and it made the reveal that he ultimately ended up cheating all the more gripping and heartbreaking. The entire match is clouded with an aura of suspense surrounding the question of "Will Kazuya cheat in some way?" It keeps interest in the story alive for the entire year or so I spent reading it, and once it's revealed he is cheating it's pretty much already over by that point. It takes a lot for a character to fill the role of "Son of Kazutaka Hyodo", but Kazuya manages to pull it off to an impressive degree. If they plan to make Kazuya's older brother another villain to face Kaiji, I can't imagine how they plan to top him. At this point, I'd find it more feasible if they made him one of the nicest people in the Hyodo family. Perhaps even the most similar character to Kaiji in the series with some slightly different philosophical views.
That sums it up better than I ever could have! I wish I could rewrite my script and include that lol. I just can't wait to see what direction Kaiji goes next, knowing Fukumoto I'm sure we have plenty more twists and turns to come!
Good stuff! Favorite Kaiji villain is Muraoka. He's such a greedy slimeball, i love watching him squirm. His over the top mannerisms and wild expressions always made me smile
I'm hoping to see Kazuya again. I feel like he'll definitely want Kaiji to keep the money, but as Kaiji said, "Second generation wealth when the first generation's alive isn't technically their money, even if they don't understand that. It's the one who makes the money that is the true owner." Wise stuff. That's how he knew to grab his passport.
great vid man. i really liked kazuya's character too and also your analysis on it. I think it'd be cool if u made a video about strongest man Kurosawa or another psychological type manga.

Kaiji is the only man who understands Kazuya.
man imagine part 3 4 5 animated and this guy would be instant top 10 anime villain
The one poker arc needs to be animated
Its too good

I mean there is a new Kaiji movie coming out and they always released a season to promote a movie, so I think it might be possible.
@@Tmasterboom2 nope, Kaiji season 3 ain’t coming anytime
Kazuya was my fav villain. He's charismatic, terrifying, and amusing, all at the same time. A great contrast to Kaiji. I do hope we get to see more of him in the future.
Kazuya's novel is unironically good one
Kazuya has got to be my favorite villain in the series!! Him and kaiji had the best dynamic in the show it was amazing I really miss him I hope he makes an appearance soon :,)

Great video, I hope Kazuya and Kaiji become buddies later down the line.

kazuya is my favorite villain from the series. can't wait for him to make another appearance in the manga.
I've been coming back to this channel and these videos for years now, still very enjoyable stuff. hope you're doing well man.
Good stuff! Favorite Kaiji villain is Muraoka. He's such a greedy slimeball, i love watching him squirm. His over the top mannerisms and wild expressions always made me smile
Muraoka just so happens to be my favorite as well! He somehow manages to be a combination of terrifying and pathetic.

Great video! Kaiji is my favorite manga, can’t wait for another video from you :D
Kazuya's demeanor kind of reminds me of Negan from The Walking Dead
great vid man. i really liked kazuya's character too and also your analysis on it. I think it'd be cool if u made a video about strongest man Kurosawa or another psychological type manga.
I can't be the only who get scared by this guy...
one poker got me stressed
Kazuya should have met Grandpa Jigsaw from the Saw Franchise.
What are you other favorite manga
Do you know how can i read Kaiji and Gai?
In my country Fukumoto's works have never been published, nor localized.
