  • The Delancey Street Trolley Terminal has sat abandoned for over 70 years, and recently, there have been attempts to possibly reactivate it, or turn it into something greater. In this video, we go over the history and the future of the Underground Delancey St Trolley Terminal.

    It would be interesting if the old trolley terminal can build tracks to rebuild a new island platform with buffers for Terminating M trains so that M can terminate there in weekends and late nights instead of cutting farther to Myrtle, also there will be less delays as sometimes in Delancy an M train may have to wait between the tunnel and the bridge to wait for an M train to go to the other side, or go with you plan to make the station like Penn station but one additional track on the left will run slightly left and end as a terminating track, much like Manchester Oxford Road in the UK

    • @m34tgaming16
      @m34tgaming16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I do feel like just the middle track isn't enough for Terminating M trains. Sometimes I cross Williamsburg and I see one M train waiting just near the tunnel for another one to come by, on my younger years I questioned myself why did that M train have to wait there. Over the years, I started to realise it could be M trains waiting for other M trains returning to service to go back to metropolitan Av

    I feel like this only trolly terminal can be used for train storage or a seprate platform for terminating M trains or Terminating J trains for Short Turn rush hour service, Simular to WTC and Chambers Street on 8th av and the station could be used to not cause delays at bowery when M trains turn from Bway-Laff to Essex St Infront of a J train or a nonexistant Z train.

    • @bennythepenny5831

      I think the (Z) should end skip-stop service & get de-interlined. I believe every line should have their own southern northern terminal, so de-interlining is big for me. That would also require building many new subway lines for them to serve, along with additional vast expansion of the network's reaching point.

    DC used to have a similar underground trolley hub in Dupont Circle. The former entrances can still be seen blocked off around the circle, but a portion of the tunnel is used as a small contemporary art museum called Dupont Underground. It closed in the 60s to make way for the then-proposed Washington Metro.

      It wouldn’t be wise for the SAS to entirely bypass Lower Manhattan via the Williamsburg Bridge. Serving Lower Manhattan via Water Street would be better for easing congestion on the Lexington Avenue Line.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@neiljamesreel Those are not enough and they are in no way a substitute for the Second Avenue Subway. When the MTA analysis of the plan was done in 2004, it was found that having the line come down there will result in greater congestion relief for the Lexington Avenue Line, and adequate service to Brooklyn and Lower East Side, something that still holds true today. In contrast, other plans don’t offer the same benefits, especially as demand for a SAS line to Williamsburg does not even exist.

    • @neiljamesreel
      @neiljamesreel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheRailLeaguer Every train into Brooklyn is in the Wall St area. Have you ever taken a Bus going North to South into Brooklyn? There is a demand in Brooklyn.There is a Bus terminal on the Brooklyn side of the Willie B. Turning SAS into Brooklyn on or under the Williamsburg Bridge is an excellent route. If the Utica Ave train is going to be extended, I don't see why this route is not a good one. SAS-125th Street to Kings Plaza will serve far move people than the few stops SAS would make continuing South pass Delancey St IMO.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@neiljamesreel That still doesn’t mean that SAS shouldn’t head to Lower Manhattan. Besides, Hanover Square is in the Wall Street area and with existing lines already at capacity, bringing the SAS into there would add in an additional set of trains. This also sets up future service into Brooklyn via a new tunnel to the Fulton Street Line.
      In addition, Utica Avenue would be better served as an IRT line branching off from Eastern Pkwy. Most bus passengers on the Utica Avenue bus route make the transfer at Eastern Pkwy rather than continue all the way to Williamsburg. The Jamaica Line is also not at capacity either. Therefore, there is no need for the SAS to go through Williamsburg, which would serve less people than the Water Street alignment.
      In all actuality, it would be better for the Second Avenue Subway to be expanded to four tracks south of 63rd, and have the other set of tracks head via the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn. With some new construction, B and D trains would replace current train service into Williamsburg. This would be a lot more effective compared to sending SAS trains to a location where it is not warranted (Williamsburg), allowing for SAS to focus on easing congestion on the Lexington Avenue Line via the alignments on Water Street and the Manhattan Bridge
