  • I bought a salvage 2006 Range Rover Sport for $1500 and got it back on the road! We finally figured out what the leak was, and it wasn't cheap...

Whoa! Wasn't expecting that number, but in reality, the work you have done will pay off greatly. Plus it was a good project.

True! It's a great daily driver now, and whatever unknown maintenance history it had is pretty much all taken care of now haha

I am not surprised. It always snowballs, but this is a reality check for a lot of people. The problem is with any old luxury brands is not the first owner or even the second its the third who did nothing to maintain it and it needs literally everything in the end. There is no such thing as a "cheap" old luxury car, you end up paying for it eventually. You have to really want it and since it was such a clean car (for the north east) you didn't have to struggle that much.

Yes, the fact it spent a lot of its life in the south definitely made it a lot nicer to work on! There are luxury cars that are cheaper to own and some that are much more expensive (like Bentleys). In some cases it's luck, and I've gotten really lucky a couple of times - but that'll be for future videos!

Great video 👍 and yes that final number shocked me. Whats really crazy is the oem replacement part cost mark up. When you condsider the new full car cost.

And yes definitely want to see a tear down of the old transfer case. Maybe you can rebuild and sell it?

Hopefully the transfer case is recoverable! I'm not sure if we would sell it or keep it as a spare yet, but we'll have to see. If it was a bearing that failed it should be ok, but otherwise who knows.

Wow I’m shocked at the price, but hey you probably got the most maintained Range Rover out there!
My sport was 7k with 120k miles when I got it, it needed some work I put about 1k in repairs on brakes and the sagging headliner etc… then someone ran into us and totaled it out for 10,500, I bought it back for 2.5k and spent 1.8k on repairs . All in all I have 2.3k into my sport so that’s the story on my car (it’s my dream car, and I’m keeping it forever).
I’m going to go through a lot of what you did with yours soon, so I greatly appreciate the series! I’m definitely gonna be a long time subscriber to your channel.
But I’m just curious what are you going to do with the car now? You going to keep it for some years, if I was you, I would hold on to that car forever knowing that it will be reliable and it’s such a clean looking car!
Can’t wait for the next car you have!

The total is high, but if we put aside the $7500 that was done at the shop, things add up quickly with OE/OEM parts. A lot of it is covered by tires, suspension, brakes, and the radiator! I should plan a cost breakdown video.
It sounds like your ownership worked out pretty well so far! What kind of damage totaled it out?
This one is staying around, Rob is enjoying it, and we have a few more projects in store for it. What you heard at the end is my next truck, which will be its own series later this year! (I think you'll really like it)
      Thank you for staying around!

I know by the sound it’s not but I was hoping he would have left you a 3-year-old Hyundai CUV or a 7-year-old Nissan Sentra.

i figure you got a reliable range rover a new one is how much?

They start at over $83k new! And this one's 4.4L engine is really durable if it's taken care of. The current ones have a BMW engine, and I don't know how those will do in the long run.
