a lot of your points make sense but the thing i dont agree on is goku giving frieza mercy, yeah frieza is pure evil and so was piccolo and vegeta and goku gave them second chances and they turned out good, and goku thought he could do the same for frieza, but at that moment goku learned not everyone deserves a second chance and not everyone is going to chose a good path or want to be redeemed like everyone else hes fought oh and thanks for coming back with the milk i enjoy your videos .
I’d really say Goku is a great Pire Hearted Character. He didn’t save Frieza because of mercy but pity. He was prepared to call the fight over and go away if Frieza didn’t cry for help to which goku exclaimed, “How many people have begged you for mercy before killing them, How many!!!” He did give him Energy because Goku is simply the bigger person compared to the cold hearted Tyrant. Although it would be more logical to leave him, that would be an intentionally cruel action Frieza would do and Goku would have to throw away his kindness which would contradict his pure hearted nature.

The Stars and Stripes thing pisses me off A protege of All Might with one of the only quirks that can rival One for All and All for One and she is just straight up fodder plot device to boost Tomura's body count
what are you talking about! she plays a huge role in removing so many quirks from tomura, not to mention if she had figured out his name she would have killed him
@AliHassan16171 and name one of the works he lost? Funny how he didn't lose any of the quirks that he always uses in battle and continued to use them the same. The whole "he lost so many quirks" war only put there to make her not seem useless. She genuinely did nothing to my man😭
The point of the empathy for demons in their final moments isn't there to justify anything they've done. It is there to demonstrate that no matter how horrible they were as a demon, they were once just some poor human that was victimized by Michael Jackson.
Bruh Star and Stripe was done so ASTRONOMICALLY DIRTY she basically had the most op ability in the show had shigaraki on his ass SEVERAL times and had the killshot to end him SEVERAL times and the anime was like nuh uh shigaraki is too cool and strong to lose so we are just gonna throw away a character who could’ve and should’ve been more explored upon and brought out in 2 episodes and then we will never mention her again ☺️
Don't get me started. I almost straight up dropped the show once shigaraki became the main villain. Almost every damn fight with him is pure bs. Him vs Star being a VERY good example.
To be fair to crocodile, he was still EXTREMELY hard to take down. I’d argue that crocodile was Luffy’s toughest W in pre time skip, and if robin didn’t betray him, crocodile would’ve won.
Crocodile is honestly one of my favorite villains but I think it's widely agreed upon that he was introduced too early. But, you ARE kinda right because Luffy literally lost to Crocodile twice and would have been trapped if they didn't get the wax fruit guy (forgot his name) to make a duplicate key. Personally, I'm kinda willing to let stuff like this slide even though it's an obvious problem with the story because this type of thing is inevitable with a story as long as one piece. Plus, I feel like his power was subtlely retconned to be higher during the War arc where he was clashing with people like Mihawk and Doffy thinking Crocodile would be a good partner for him
enel and crocodile were two great introduction to logia type users where it seem like the only way to defeat them was using their narutal weakness. but then haki was introduced and made it seem like logia users weren't a big problem anymore. but thanks to oda, old characters like crocodile and the giants regained their spotlight by catching up to the power scale of the modern one piece. now looking up to them, it is mostly confirmed that most characters gotten stronger off screen or at least luffy was just lucky to defeat his returning villains
@@VillageOtter…??? While I guess I get what you mean, he did kinda prevent madara and Kaguya from pretty much ending the world so out of anyone he gets a pass. He also genuinely learns his lesson and changes so I don’t think it’s really the best example. @@JCXD7L You know, you're right I should have used Orochimaru, and yes both you and @KingOrangeX are right, he was genially sorry for what he did. so, I'm Sorry
To explain Tanjiro, he does not FORGIVE demons, nor does sympathize with them, he just gives empathy because they are humans. He's a character that understands that they need to die, he just wants them to die as people again because he's empathetic. Also, i'm not sure why enel constitutes as a power crept when he had his season in the sun. That only makes sense if he came back and got folded like lucci did. What makes Enel the standout example instead of Cell or Orochimaru? He was the main antagonist for an arc but he's not around anymore. I understand stars and stripes, but Mecha frieza? That's not a good example.
honestly enel is a bad example in my opion because its not that enel was weak its just that enel had bad luck and meet possibly the only person who can hard counter him hell even at this part of the story we haven't seen anyone match the range of his observatiion haki. Enel's only downfall was his absolute shit luck and lucci is a much better example of power creping imo
^ absolutely NOT at all lmao Enel does NOT put up any fight against Doffy. Even without the rubber excuses Enel was having trouble with pre timeskip Luffys speed and AP which Doflamingo is clear of to the fact it took bounceman to put down an Exhausted Doflamingo Enel stands zero chance against Doflamingo
@@Dronk.D.Scales I'm not fond of engaging in power scaling arguments. All I did was take a look at the big lightning thing Enel did to destroy sky Islands and then look at the bird Cage and say. Eh looks similar enough.
For Tanjiro, I interpret it as him being sympathetic towards the humans the demons were, instead of the demons they became. He tries to send them off on a comforting note. I feel bad for the people they used to be. The people that suffered and were stripped of their humanity. As for the demons, they have to be put down.
Doesnt change the fact that he's the do gooder that can do no wrong. He has no character flaws, his "journey" is just to go out and kill demons, and somehow his existence changes everyhting established in fhe world.
@artificialaceattorney6822 FACTS. There are just some people that don't deserve sympathy. And Tanjiro works as a main character, with his likeable personality and has fun interactions.
Right and for Daki and Gyutaro specifically, Tanjiro acknowledged that he and Nezuko could’ve easily turned out the same. Tanjiro shows empathy for *some* demons not all of them. And he punishes them all regardless ☝️
@@SunSh1neFN He gets his sword broken because of his incompetence, doesn't he? I guess you could call him flat, but he's what gets the other characters rolling. Mfs when Megumi isn’t completely locked in after watching his sister die, getting possessed by the strongest sorcerer at a far stronger point than the version that possessed Yuji. And is literally 15-16
I think the only reason Goku sparing villains actually works is because it actively contributes to his character development in the sense that he realizes not everyone should be spared
The only way to get Goku to kill someone is if they kill his family, just look at Buu and Goku black they killed his family and they are the only ones that Goku kills. Nappa kills Tien, and Piccolo with Yamcha and Chiotzu dying in the process not him unconcious and gets mad when Vegeta kills him, Frieza kills Krillin and Vegeta he gets spared twice, Cell gets a senzu been so Gohan can fight him and Goku still jumps in only when Cell is about to kill Gohan.

Like bro with the signals the waifus give the MC from small ones like gifting chocolate or taking out a date to going to the extremes of being IN THE SAME BED as the MC. The amount of blue balls or in this case blue ovaries the waifus be suffering from, why can’t they just trap bro in a marriage certificate first episode. Cause clearly the MC is obliterating the eggshells the waifu’s walked around on.
True from being giving chocolate and going on a “outing” (apparently the MC can’t read the room on being in a date) to where the waifu is sleeping in his bed. To be honest, Crocodile and Enel didn't get power crept because they got beat by Luffy early, they got beat by luffy because he found their weakness. Crocodile is weak to liquids, and Luffy is Enel's natural weakness
They got powercrept by the fact that pre timeskip Luffys stats where challenging them Enel could barely keep up with pre timeskip base Luffys speed which Cp9 Base Lucci can keep up with and cp9 Lucci was handling gear 2 Luffys attacks better making Enel now a slow glass canon
2:57 Because at the start of Z, Goku had selfishness in his character that made him want to fight strong people again if if they were villains. The same reason why he let Vegeta go. Eventually, he had no choice but to kill Frieza (even though he barely survived). Z Goku was not the traditional good guy that he was in Super.
he endangered the entire multiverse for a fight and if they didn’t make the right wish was still gonna get erased what are you talking about hero i’m super😭
Tanjiro works as a pure hearted character because he still does what needs to be done. He empathizes with the humans, demons used to be, not the demons themselves. He doesn't hesitate to kill, but he will honor the life he's taken. And that's an incredible display of humanity. Personally think you gave him too much flak.
Stop defending this horribly written blank sheet of a character. Tanjiro being "the good boy that knows no wrong" is the exact reason why his character is so trash. He isnt human because humans have flaws. Writing 101 cmon guys
It's surprising how many people forget that when it comes to it, Tanjiro is a hating ahh nga sometimes. Bro holds grudges and goes out of his way to let people know that he hates them
@@flak3645 his actions never have any concequences. Take the save nezuko feom the sun or save the villagers from hentengu scene for exemple. Or when he keep breaking his swords. Sure the swordsmith is mad at him at first but then we learn that he just cant make good swords. Because we all know tanjiro is way too perfect to do anything that would lead to concequences😁
I disagree with the tanjiro hate. Unlike someone like Naruto or goku he is only sympathetic to the villain in death because he believes everyone is equal in death and he is genuinely empathetic towards them as most of them reflect on their past as they fade away. It’s actually very beautiful
I don’t really agree with what you said about Tanjiro bro. I get why from our perspective it seems that Tanjiro is just getting sentimental and letting himself care for Gyutaro and Daki. But it’s not like he forgave them for what they did, Tanjiro still hated them for everything they did and was going to let them die. But the idea of two siblings, one being older than the other, arguing with each other and saying they hate one other? Wouldn’t this offend Tanjiro of all people, someone who fights and loves Nezuko through thick and thin? Tanjiro has siblings and understand that sometimes you can get fed up with them like us in real life, but the fact that these two siblings who only have each other are fighting just makes him feel pity. It’s pretty much an antithesis to him and Nezuko’s bond. And the biggest part is that Tanjiro KNOWS they don’t mean it, he knows for themselves they’re just saying that because they’re angry about dying. But he wouldn’t feel right to let these two siblings die in such a manner. So he doesn’t let them live nor forgive them, he just tells them to stop, that no matter how much they badmouth each other they’re in this together through and through. Tanjiro isn’t giving these guys an easy way out, he simply relates to them due to their sibling bond and gives them an honest send off, not out of respect or love but just pity and empathy because of his relationship with Nezuko. It’s honestly one of my favourite scenes in the whole show and made me love Tanjiro’s character that much more. He’s arguably the best character in the show because of his ability to empathize and understand others. He’s a great role model for this generation tbh
I think the difference between Goku and Tanjiro is that Goku is explicitly good natured but not morally uncomplicated. Goku’s actions are often called out as selfish and often quite arrogant and naive. His views on situations are often not as grounded as they should be. Not to mention, while he doesn’t mean harm by it, he’s often deeply selfish. So while he’s “pure of heart” he can easily be a wildcard. For example, hiring Hit on himself to fight him at 100%. Tanjiro is treated by the story like he’s doing a wise and great service when really, he’s killing bloodthirsty psychopaths. Most are borderline rabid dogs with sentience and no remorse until they’re on deaths door. Cases like Tanjiro are why unless it’s pulled off very well, I have a deep frustration with this specific trope.
You are SPITTING. Goku's complexity and maturity are heavily down played nowadays. Goku spared Vegeta hit straight up and said he knew what he was doing was selfish and his desire to fight Vegeta again likely comes from his primal instincts as a battle-craving Saiyan. I feel like stories often need the character to have some sort of self-awareness or have other characters point out each other's flaws so the audience feels heard. An example of this, keeping the setting within Dragon Ball, is Vegeta raging at Gohan for not training during the 7 years. In general what most stories with "good boy characters" (as I put it,) like Tanjiro fail to do is to stop meatriding them and call out their thoughts and decisions in a rational way
@ Fr. Tbf Super downplayed Goku’s maturity so I can see why a lot of people downplay it too. But regardless in general I can like pure of heart characters, but they need complexity to their purity. For example, Goku is pure in the same way a kid is, he rarely means to do wrong, but he’s impulsive and not truly thinking things through, making him equal parts sweet and kind as well as arrogant and selfish. Another example I think just doesn’t work is Naruto because he has no mind for practicality. I get that many Naruto villains are complex and are very much victims of circumstances, but he very much will act like he’s Jesus trying to endlessly forgive people who are trying to kill him and everyone he cares about. He’s very much someone who should not be allowed on the battlefield by any rational metric because his friends and forces are dying or dead and he can’t get the stomach to stop the bloodshed. The worse part is that no one acknowledges this. The story treats anyone who’s against this plan as someone who “just doesn’t get it” or “has their reasons”. It feels like the world bends to him and not the other way around.
Even in the scene of goku with frieza it's a personal moral argument inside of goku He doesnt want to spare frieza in any way and berates frieza the entire time saying he doesn't deserve it. It's goku personally deciding if he will let his saiyan rage control him or do as he was taught to.
That's the main issue with most 'good boy' protagonists. It's not that we don't like morally upstanding or positive characters. We want their choices to be realistically acknowledged by the setting. If being good is supposed to be hard, then we should see how hard it is to make those choices in these characters. The world bending over backwards to reward and praise the mc just gives off cheesy isekai vibes where the mc is always made right by the plot.
The power crept character burns my soul. I find it so irritating because it usually happens in shonen stories where one of the main purposes is to encourage young males to self-improve. Imagine having a story about self-improvement where only a couple characters continue to improve while the others stagnate. What if the audience saw themselves in a stagnating character? That could hurt their motivation. I understand the author has a desire to make one character obviously stronger, but there should be a limit to allow more characters to be relevant.
To be fair, the story calls out that Goku sparing Frieza was the wrong decision because Goku tries to put Frieza down a second later. Frieza was the one who taught Goku that not everyone can be spared and some people are too prideful to accept mercy. That's why he was screaming at Gohan to kill Cell because Cell might get desperate like Frieza. Also, Goku straight up told Future Trunks that sparring Frieza was a mistake and he would have put Frieza down for good if Trunks didn't arrive (and he literally did do that in the Original timeline, Future Goku killed both Future Frieza and Cold) Edit: Looking back at this comment and remembered that Goku for some reason was trying to spare Frieza in RoF and they let him go in Broly, but stuff like that is why many (myself included) say Super Butchered Goku's character. Like Goku trying to spare Frieza there was not only stupid (cuz Frieza bridged the gap between them so fast) but also straight up character assassination and Z Goku would never do that
We can ignore Super for now, but I like the point of you bringing up Goku's point. I kind of overlooked that in the video. But I think the idea still stands that the pureheart trope can break down depending on execution
@apehawk I think it's kind of wild if someone hasn't seen my videos before. I feel like my titles are "clickbait" as someone may think I'm straight bashing these characters, when I try to have a semi-open lens for most characters. Besides overpowered isekai mcs
I lowkey want a isekai anime where instead of a guy that's overpowered and wins all the time is the mc it's his sidekick whose just an average guy that didn't get any powers and is just trying to survive
Closest thing I can give you is this manga called “Record Highserk of War”, MC is a modern Japanese man who is reincarnated into just a regular infantry soldier. The world he’s in has heroes but he’s not one of them and is surviving by being in a mercenary crew he’s in. I like certain areas where they explore lack of morals and values in the medieval era especially with it being what would considered inhumane in our modern society. Also magic isn’t as common compared to every isekai when either everyone has the ability to do this easily, seeing that our MC is the only one of the two people in their squad to even have the ability to cast it. It’s an OP magic but it’s like a high risk high reward situation where he’ll get drained into doing it and is forced to be smart about it and can’t cast it with no consequence. Sadly this thing has about 16 chapters and been in hiatus for watch’s been 2 years I think. Though I saw some Reddit threads on how production of the manga is coming back, and if not the manga it at least continues the story with its light novels. Update: Turns out chapter 17 is out after all
Bro he was unconscious, critically injured and used up his spiritual energy what did you want him to do😭. Every captain is getting turned into a zombie in that scenario I don't see how that's a point against hitsugaya
I take it you never read the manga? Not sure if it will be in this cour but wait till the gerad fight. I'm not hating, I didn't see much of the fight myself since I wanted to wait for it to be animated I just learnt about it from brave souls and bleach TH-camrs like Mr. Tommo
It’s crazy because people forget Goku wasn’t always as kind hearted as his is now. In og dragon ball Goku was cutthroat and didn’t spare no one until he met android 8 who thought him how to have morals and compassion for your enemies.
I refer to the pure characters as moral Jesus because they often act like it: You killed my entire family, harvested my organs and tried to kill me? Don't worry I forgive you and want to be friends so don't be bad again (after the 4th betrayal).

In defense of Tanjiro, when he sees there is no humanity within a demon anymore he locks in. Hantengu being an example, part of me thinks demons like Hantengu and Gyokko were made to remind you that some demons have no humanity at all, Tanjiro will kill demons like those with no remorse. Tanjiro as a character is meant to emphasize the idea of the collective human will vs those without humanity, those that have discarded it, or weaponize it. I could go in depth to defend Goku too, but I’m lazy, it ain’t that serious, and lots of people probably know what I’m going to say. I just focused on Tanjiro because some people have this idea that Tanjiro is a saint with no hatred and will always cradle villains in their dying moments. I’m exaggerating but still.
Id say a problem with tanjiro is that he never develops. He is a good boy at the start, he's a good boy at the end. No changes whatsoever. I think that a compelling main character changes along with the story, like Luffy, Guts, Ed Elric and Naruto (i have not watched bleach) especially in longer stories like this
@@viklepick Personally, that seems more of a personal thing. I think it's fine that Tanjiro stays as good as he is, because the point of his character is to show that anyone can be kind to just about anyone, and with enough determination, they can help a lot of people. Of course, it's cliche, but it works well with him.
1:38 I am pretty sure this is due to the fact that at first he hated Daki since she.. yk.. destroyed and entire village, but when Tanjiro was slicing off Gyutaro's head in his "1 In a million chance" and he heard her yell her brother's name, it made him realize how similar him and Nezuko are to them and made him feel bad for them.

4:48 thank goodness People are finally noticing subaru. Most isekai protags are just op with no other character to them and are made to solo their verse and other verses. At least with Umineko, the characters are so busted reality warpers that they have to use their wits to fight (And are all extremely well written as well btw) i also kinda hate Yogiri with a passion.
Also yeah the beating Goku thing is sorta annoying. Like we know Goku doesnt solo but putting him in pure spite matches are boring to watch. Oh, so Goku cant win against a literal omnipotent Demon king, who knew ? 😒 And not to talk of how many characters it has ruined. Goats like Featherine, Madoka and Hajun are generally hated now cuz "They were made for powerscaling and beating Goku" Its honestly just dumb kinda 😐
3:03, you massively misunderstood why goku gave freiza energy. Freiza is a character who was thought to be the strongest, he never lost a fight, and he was never humbled. This led to him doing what he wants cause he thought he was him. Goku hoped that after beating freiza and humiliating, he would lose that attitude, and change himself for the better, like he did with piccolo and vegeta (not the same situation but you get my point)
he is a simple character, hes literally just unrealistic female fanservice as the manga is written by a woman who doesn't know how men work (that's not to say there aren't good characters or writing in demon slayer) a submissive feminine ripped guy who doesn't say or do anything bad ever, he is completely 1 dimensional until a fight breaks out then all of a sudden he's macho man to save the day, if you've ever read Araki's book on writing manga he's exactly the type of unrealistic badly written character he warns against creating, people who are completely pure and never do bad things don't exist especially in settings with war, violence, poverty etc, if you make a character like that it rubs people the wrong way
I loved Enel so much in skypeia and when I look at it, had Luffy not eaten a rubber fruit then Enel would've cooked him. but at least he might be coming back
If I'm allowed to defend Tanjiro - He is only remorseful and sympathetic towards demons upon their deaths, when they are gaining back their humanity for the last few seconds. The evil that demons enact is in most cases completely detached from their humanity. As demons they are basically completely different people, just like hollows from Bleach. Daki and Gyutaro weren't horrible people as humans, only when they became demons which they turned to for survival. As they were dying their humanity was slowly coming back, and that's why Tanjiro was showing them affection.
I agree! Demons in this series tend to never remember their past human lives until they're on death's door, so they're technically different people while dying. Also there is a couple instances where Tanjiro had no remorse for his opponents (like Enmu or Hantengu), which is also worth noting
Have you guys finished the manga. If you have its clear to see that about any demon can heal their body after having their head cut off, its just that having their head cut off returns their human memories and also their personality to them and they subconsciously refuse to. Thats why kokushibo and akaza died and why muzan doesnt die to getting his head cut off (he didnt give a shit about human life even when he was a human).
@@beckbrosoldier yes and no it was only show with two demons besides muzan and both were upper moon 1 and 3 they die when the head is cut off with a demon slayers sword which is why lower moon 5 the spider demon cut his head off him self instead of letting tanjiro cut it off since of he did it he would have died

I agree I would say that’s an example of plot armor being done right and believable. Same in Attack on Titan, everyone in the squad watching Zeke gets turned Titan except for Levi because he didn’t drink the tainted wine.
@stevenadamsapple I understand this, but Enel being relative in speed to a pre-Gear 2 luffy means he is still relatively slow to all of these other One Piece characters. Meaning that any character with Haki and faster speed than Skypeia Luffy, will most likely beat Enel cause he can't react to their attacks
My take on tanjiro: He isn't the type of person who wants to save demons. He knows they killed ppl and no matter what they have to pay for it. So he isn't like ima save that demon bring him to our side. And while fighting the spider mother demon he killed her in the least painful way since she didn't resist death. And about daki he already killed them so like comon. They are about to evaporate in few seconds . Srry my eng a bit sloppy but i think I was able to convey my points

I fully understand Gohan not wanting to fight. Did no one see the absolute beating Recoome did on this 5 year old child? Recoome broke Gohan’s neck and Gohan was just left there to slowly die. If Goku got to Namek later, that was just Gohan’s fate, slowly drifting into unconsciousness as he lays there motionless. Again, this happened when Gohan was 5, if that doesn’t give someone lifelong ptsd I don’t know what will.

Enel is still incredibly powerful and could still easily defeat some of the Straw Hats, people who just rate him based on his fight with Luffy must be the same people who consider Tik Tok news to be useful
Tanjiro's empathy worked at first in the beginning, but as the series went on, it felt like a forced gimmick. Personally, I feel like Tanjiro's empathy angle would feel more genuine and less contrived if he actually knew the backstories of the demons. There would be more emotional weight if Tanjiro acknowledged the suffering, pain, and trauma they endured in their past lives. I wanted Tanjiro to acknowledge the cruelty of humanity, not just demons. For example, it would be interesting to see how Tanjiro would react upon learning that Daki is a thirteen-year-old girl who was abused and exploited her whole life, and had to become a demon to survive a traumatic near-death experience. It would be interesting to see Tanjiro's perspective. It's not just about her and her brother having a petty sibling argument that escalates; it's about understanding the profound depths of their despair. In fact, Tanjiro's sympathy during that scene seemed lacking to me when he told them that no one would miss them and everyone hated them. Even if it was true, that's not something you say to someone you're supposed to empathize with. True empathy involves the ability to understand and share the feelings of others.
The last character you talk about has been a thing in TV and entertainment for some time and it's known as the Worf Effect. The term came about from Star Trek. Worf was meant to be the powerful/strong guy, and if an enemy could merk them, then you knew there'd be trouble. However, it became an issue over time, as the character was overused and always ended up losing just so the writer could demonstrate a character was strong. This is exact what happened with Chad in Bleach. Stars and Stripes definitely suffered _really_ badly from this. Mainly because she was shoehorned into the show just to use the Worf Effect. It would have been better if her character was around a bit longer and she explored longer. She was such an interesting character to just be turned into a plot device.
Stars and stripes death is especially bs because it literally means nothing, no reactions from main cast, no reaction from the world after her death the american heroes should have gotten riled up and flooded japan creating another angle to the war, yet nothing but crickets.
I feel like Goku is a better example of pure heartedness because it’s not synonymous with perfect. For characters like Tanjiro he’s perfect and can do no wrong because of his pure heart whereas Goku is still flawed and berated for his thinking at times. “🥷🏿 think I’m fighting to save the day, but really 🥷🏿 I just like to fight”. He has let his judgement get in the way and has suffered from it like with Raditz and Frieza TWICE with Black Frieza being a looming threat currently. I like how he is pure hearted but can still fuck up
okay, the thing is: comparing goku to demon slayer boy (idk his name) is unfair because goku's kindheartedness is specifically shown as a flaw. he isnt flawed in the same way vegeta's flawed, he's an inherently pure-hearted guy, but he still has flaws and issues shown throughout the series. in fact, saying goku is "letting frieza live" also isnt entirely accurate, he only really planned to leave frieza on a brink-of-death planet to maybe get him to reflect on his actions. when he realized frieza would never change, what did he do? he turned around and killed him! its also unfair to talk about vegeta being a sorta tsundere in DB Super because super is just an objectively bad show
one thing I do like about the kind hearted character troupe in tanjiro is when he had to choose between nezuko or protecting some random civilians, and in the end nezuko chose for him because he just couldn't sacrifice one life for the other, he was too much of good person to even make a decision which only makes sense if the author was going to stick to that overly kind personality troupe.
Honestly i hate "Useless" characters. As in characters that serve no purpose to the overarching story(filler is where they belong). Characters like The Elder Gods from MK or Tenten are perfect examples
The whole Naruto’s generation from the Leaf was useless, except the main trio and maybe Shikamaru. And Im mostly sad for characters like Lee, Neji and Shino, who had a lot of potential and very interesting abilities.
Absolutely agree with the isekai one, that kind of character keeps getting called Jesus-kun because of how the story makes them out to be a perfect divine-like character who does no wrongs and always wins. It seriously stinks. But at least with Anos, it's played for laughs and the real story is with everyone around him, and how his presence disrupts the status quo of the world. With other shitty perfect protagonists, the story is just the world bowing down to them and showing how they're always right/great, but there it's about him coming to terms with a new world and re-asserting his values on it despite the resistance he gets.
A character genre I utterly despise: the harem/romance protagonist cause they are always showing the most unrealistic points of their entire genre, being the romance, and how should I relate to a character who will automatically get something I never had, and they do it extremely easily while I've never experienced love in 19 years
@@redninja3056 it's not just that I'm jealous, but it's because those main male characters are typically as interesting as a wet blade of grass, and they only have to do one nice thing to get those girls to fall madly in love with them, which is extremely unrealistic
True, good ones I know of that actually has the MC growing and changing as the story progresses from starting into being a relationship with the girl is “The Dangers in my Heart”, and a personal favorite of mine thatI’ve just found out and binged last week “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You”. Starting with the first “Dangers in my Heart” had at least in my mind a fresh and new take on romance MC’s: 1. They have worries, struggles, and desire that they’ve either lost a long time ago or got themselves feeling unsuccessful or unsettled at least, and it follows within their relationship beyond the waifu, it could be their family members, classmates, even old friends. 2. The relationship actually grows from the two characters interacting and not some will they, won’t they build up that drags on. 3. No needs for the stereotypical gags such as walking in the bathroom while waifu is either changing or naked, accidental boob or butt grab, the cockblocking of the two characters while they were about to be intimate, etc. 4. The supporting casts actually supports the characters, and even have memorable moments that expose their qualities. 5. MC has an interesting dynamic with everyone he interacts with beyond the waifu As for “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You”: 1. MC and waifu halve interesting character dynamics 2. No stupid comedy gag that distracts the relationships, and if it is used it’s used in a manner that isn’t obnoxious to the story, and is used to show the close bond of the male and female MC. 3. actually hits you with struggles of wanting a relationship to be more than what the MC’s currently have. Their thoughts of “will it break the relationships” being interesting dynamic 4. Shifts to a more mature focus of building and wanting a relationships to being a special moment for both MC’s 5. Supporting casts are funny as hell PS: would like to put in “The Girl I like Forgot Her Glasses”, it’s a guilty pleasure of just wholesome moments in the characters wanting the best for their relationship. Fun fact both the Waifu’s names of the first two mangas I listed are Yamada

Mob is probably an example of a well written kind hearted character
Luffy, Naruto (mostly), Saitama, honestly almost every protagonist out there is well written kind hearted.

Plus, I feel like his power was subtlely retconned to be higher during the War arc where he was clashing with people like Mihawk and Doffy thinking Crocodile would be a good partner for him
imo Lucci was the toughest one pre timeskip

He's a character that understands that they need to die, he just wants them to die as people again because he's empathetic. Also, i'm not sure why enel constitutes as a power crept when he had his season in the sun. That only makes sense if he came back and got folded like lucci did. What makes Enel the standout example instead of Cell or Orochimaru? He was the main antagonist for an arc but he's not around anymore. I understand stars and stripes, but Mecha frieza? That's not a good example.

For Tanjiro, I interpret it as him being sympathetic towards the humans the demons were, instead of the demons they became. He tries to send them off on a comforting note.
I feel bad for the people they used to be. The people that suffered and were stripped of their humanity. As for the demons, they have to be put down.

Defending Toshiro to me is like you and me going to war together. Here’s your sub
We gotta stick together
Even in the scene of goku with frieza it's a personal moral argument inside of goku
He doesnt want to spare frieza in any way and berates frieza the entire time saying he doesn't deserve it. It's goku personally deciding if he will let his saiyan rage control him or do as he was taught to.
This is such a bad faith, terrible comparison of what is happening in DS.

Damn that was as clean and cold as blue mouthwash.
😂
To be fair, the story calls out that Goku sparing Frieza was the wrong decision because Goku tries to put Frieza down a second later. Frieza was the one who taught Goku that not everyone can be spared and some people are too prideful to accept mercy. That's why he was screaming at Gohan to kill Cell because Cell might get desperate like Frieza. Also, Goku straight up told Future Trunks that sparring Frieza was a mistake and he would have put Frieza down for good if Trunks didn't arrive (and he literally did do that in the Original timeline, Future Goku killed both Future Frieza and Cold)
Edit: Looking back at this comment and remembered that Goku for some reason was trying to spare Frieza in RoF and they let him go in Broly, but stuff like that is why many (myself included) say Super Butchered Goku's character.

Me: “Watches a demon kill an entire family” Your evil
Tanjiro: Their is good in everyone
I’m joking
Id say a problem with tanjiro is that he never develops. He is a good boy at the start, he's a good boy at the end. No changes whatsoever. @@viklepick Personally, that seems more of a personal thing. I am pretty sure this is due to the fact that at first he hated Daki since she.. yk.. destroyed and entire village, but when Tanjiro was slicing off Gyutaro's head in his "1 In a million chance" and he heard her yell her brother's name, it made him realize how similar him and Nezuko are to them and made him feel bad for them.

It's always funny to see people go "tanjiro is such a simple character" and then fundamentally mischaracterize his character
I hope I didn't try to portray him as a simple character. I think my problem is a problem with Demon Slayer as whole like I stated in the video
he is a simple character, hes literally just unrealistic female fanservice as the manga is written by a woman who doesn't know how men work
(that's not to say there aren't good characters or writing in demon slayer)
a submissive feminine ripped guy who doesn't say or do anything bad ever, he is completely 1 dimensional until a fight breaks out then all of a sudden he's macho man to save the day, if you've ever read Araki's book on writing manga he's exactly the type of unrealistic badly written character he warns against creating, people who are completely pure and never do bad things don't exist especially in settings with war, violence, poverty etc, if you make a character like that it rubs people the wrong way

If I'm allowed to defend Tanjiro -
He is only remorseful and sympathetic towards demons upon their deaths, when they are gaining back their humanity for the last few seconds.

I agree with you on this list! Thank you for sharing.
I saw Toshiro, I clicked, I was scared, and then you spat facts. Thank you 🙏
The last character you talk about has been a thing in TV and entertainment for some time and it's known as the Worf Effect.
@titusg4247 Oh yes, I've heard of Word effect from another comment funnily enough. It definitely can get out of hand in shonen anime

1:44 watch vinland saga. Listen to the Monk talk about love. Tanjiro understands the concept of love in the way the same way Thors does.
Thanks for this video brodie
okay, the thing is: comparing goku to demon slayer boy (idk his name) is unfair because goku's kindheartedness is specifically shown as a flaw. he isnt flawed in the same way vegeta's flawed, he's an inherently pure-hearted guy, but he still has flaws and issues shown throughout the series. in fact, saying goku is "letting frieza live" also isnt entirely accurate, he only really planned to leave frieza on a brink-of-death planet to maybe get him to reflect on his actions. when he realized frieza would never change, what did he do? he turned around and killed him!
its also unfair to talk about vegeta being a sorta tsundere in DB Super because super is just an objectively bad show
one thing I do like about the kind hearted character troupe in tanjiro is when he had to choose between nezuko or protecting some random civilians, and in the end nezuko chose for him because he just couldn't sacrifice one life for the other, he was too much of good person to even make a decision which only makes sense if the author was going to stick to that overly kind personality troupe.

True, good ones I know of that actually has the MC growing and changing as the story progresses from starting into being a relationship with the girl is “The Dangers in my Heart”, and a personal favorite of mine thatI’ve just found out and binged last week “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You”.
Starting with the first “Dangers in my Heart” had at least in my mind a fresh and new take on romance MC’s:
5. MC has an interesting dynamic with everyone he interacts with beyond the waifu
As for “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You”:
1. MC and waifu halve interesting character dynamics
2. No stupid comedy gag that distracts the relationships, and if it is used it’s used in a manner that isn’t obnoxious to the story, and is used to show the close bond of the male and female MC.
3. actually hits you with struggles of wanting a relationship to be more than what the MC’s currently have. Their thoughts of “will it break the relationships” being interesting dynamic
4. Shifts to a more mature focus of building and wanting a relationships to being a special moment for both MC’s
5. Supporting casts are funny as hell
PS: would like to put in “The Girl I like Forgot Her Glasses”, it’s a guilty pleasure of just wholesome moments in the characters wanting the best for their relationship.
Fun fact both the Waifu’s names of the first two mangas I listed are Yamada
