Great content!! Used to own the SRI model. ....Bold looks, comfortable driving experience, great diesel engine with plenty of space in the rear make the Astra Estate an excellent car.
Thanks mate think I did a later review not long ago on this Astra (unsung hero of the fleet) That’s very good going for the petrol version, cracking cars they are. Thanks for watching
@@CarAddictGarageNE I have the petrol with the Z16XER engine but it’s heading into cambelt territory. And clutch. So I was thinking about swapping if for a diesel. But it’s only done 73,000 so I’m wondering if it’s worth just spending a bit and having these bits done and keeping it
Timing belts are dead easy on those, don’t even require a water pump, not an expensive job at all. A lot less to go wrong with the petrols as well. Have a look i did a video not long ago on the Astra

@@CarAddictGarageNE I’m also having the Camshaft pulleys and oil seals done at same time. Apparently they are a common issue on them and mine has the notorious VVT rattle which is caused by the camshaft pulleys
I had an Astra Estate 1.7 CDTi to use for a while. I found it to be a real nice car to drive. So quiet and very good for carrying equipment. Not sure what the road tax was, is on the 1.7 CDTi . There are Astra's which are £30 road tax? I like that fact as a tax is a tax! Enjoyed your video.
Yeah love my astra estates cracking cars had them for years. Yea the last few MK5 / Astra H made 2008/11 used the A17 EcoFlex engines what were £30 tax, but as I said they are rubbish have a DPF and awful Fiat 6 speed gearbox….. Z17 is what you want pre 2008 tax is still only £140 what’s not bad at all. Also I think some of the 1.3 CDTI Fiat engine astras were £30 but they are rubbish lol Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Great video. Looks like I found one, same spec as yours. Hope it goes through. What is like chabging a clutch on this with the F23 gear box? Expensive?
Yes it will work 100% long as it’s the 1.7 CDTI, all you need is the stalk (takes 5 mins if that) to remove and activate via tech2 (I have it of your local)
I’ve just brought an Astra H with the 1.7 CDTi 100hp. What grade of oil would you recommend using? Ps been watching you videos for a while now, always look forward to the weekly vlogs. Keep up the good work 😊👍🏻
Always use 5/30 Fully synthetic on these CDTI ones, C3 grade will be good enough. Appreciate that, just like to show people the day to day goings on of running a garage. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@adamlittle4267 Yeah they are fantastic cars and can’t beat the 1.7 Isuzu, yes unfortunately the A17DTR will have the DPF and weak M32 gearbox, Z17DTH were the last of the best with No DPF and the hard as nails F23 gearbox (also fitted to V6 GM range)
I drove one for over 3 years and I hated it. Bad seats, no cupholders and a horrible 1.7 cdti engine which was rough, thirsty and went in a filter regeneration mode every 100 km’s. (Basically everyday because I did 100 km’s a day).
That’s why I said avoid the A17 (DPF) and go for the Z17 (non DPF) Z17 are a totally different drive to the A17 Fantastic MPG, no DPF, no regen rubbish, no stop start, loads more power, proper F23 5 speed box vs the horrific M32 the A17 got
Generally if it’s 6 speed will be the A17 (with DPF) and (awful fiat M32 gearbox) 5 Speed Will be the Z17 (no DPF) (F23 box same as most V6 Vauxhalls brilliant gearbox)
The A17 is nothing really worry about, keep to oil changed regular for oil dilution, make sure it’s regen correctly, or even pay a bit extra to remove the DPF and map it out lol. What is to worry about is the M32 gearbox, check for any whining in 5th / 6th gear. I had recently do videos on Astra J I had with A17/M32 and there is a mod for the gearbox as they are under filled from factory. Usually have around 1.8L from factory and you put 3L in what helps bathe the 5th/6th gear in oil so they don’t wear …. Check out “The M32 Guy” his good

Am an amateur but I agree with everything you said about 17dti Isuzu, on my 4th Astra Estate in 30years 👍🏼 Very good info on Astra H from you 🤔👍🏼
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Great review. I have the 18 petrol auto. 206 thousand. Still solid as a rock.

I was wondering what the eco flex meant and now I know so thank you. I nearly purchased one that’s an eco flex. Glad I watched this first

Any clutch job won’t be cheap , when you factor in clutch kit and DMF and labour
Great video ive got same engine in astra estate club 2008 same colour as yours would the cruise control adaptation work in mine:-} Thanks

I have a 2011 astra h 1.7 van fantastic van super reliable. Mine is the dtr engine so the later 125bhp service it eavery 6 months
