+BladeLigerV yeah, one of the best, I remember sticking an ER large laser on the nose and then giving it a streak 6 and a couple medium pulse lasers, almost never lost. even to heavy mechs
I like the Mech's of battletech because they were so different from the usual anthropomorphical behemoths that TV shows used to portrait, wielding giant swords and Rifles... These battlemechs were truly weapons themselves
I agree. Someone once pointed out that the Japanese see the Mech (mecha) as more akin to superheroes, acting more like Superman than a just a robot. I think it was Michael A. Stackpole who coined the phrase "big, stompy robots". Quite an apt description for the walking nightmare successor to the modern main battle tank.
*cough cough* most of Battletech's original designs were from Robotech, called Unseen *cough* *cough hack* BattleaMechd have swords and rifles *wheeze*
Unfortunately, that's not the case. People that grew up with the Mechwarrior games tend to have a *very* warped view of the setting. There are, in fact, mechs that make use of melee weapons. There are mechs, in fact, that carry external weapons. A lot of Battletech's mechs *are* humanoid. Most of the mechs that have hands, have them for a reason.
@@revolrz22 Whilst that is true, the majority of them eschew such weapons in combat. They _can_, but most will utilise their integrated weapons. And melee weapons are rather uncommon outside of Solaris, save for battlefists and impromptu weapons. Handheld guns are even rarer as they aren't as practical as integrated weaponry.
@@56bturn We can cut corners and bend rules and shift goalposts all we want by trying to say "melee is rare outside of battlefists" or what have you. But the fact is, melee can and does happen in Battletech, and it isn't isolated to Solaris. As previously mentioned, there are mechs with melee combat as a central component of their design. The Hunchback and the aforementioned battlefists, for example, is an exceedingly common 'mech in its weight class.
Bought my first PC in 1998 & first "3d accelerator" in 1999 to play "Babylon 5 space combat simulator" by Sierra after seeing a video on a PC Gaming World cover disc in the UK. Then Sierra cancelled B5 & we were livid. Then i got Mechwarrior 3 & Pirates Moon & it was all worth it. The arcade depth Mech games that followed just didn't measure up to this flight sim on legs. Best times.
normally a medium/heavy with jumpjets and medium lasers. black hawk or bushwacker being what i normally go for. funniest build i discovered was a stripped down atlas with 4 MRM 40s. it was suicide to use but could get you atleast one kill. and noting beats launching a wall of death at people.
Does anyone know who the composer for MW3 was? This sounds so much like the MechCommander music that I'm wondering if they kept using the same guy for sound design each time.
Really wish they hadn't been so lazy with the soundtrack. "Having an engaging library of songs to play while you're driving around in your mech? Naaaaa! Let's just have this one song play over and over again." Then again it was a product of the times. Mechwarrior 2 and mercs came out when the trend was to make the game have more and better content than the last. Mech3 came out when the trend started to become "Put less content in the game but cover it up with fancy visuals and brand recognition". Less mechs (Mechwarrior 2 Mercs was practically flooded with mechs), less missions, less options (though the ability to aim your reticle anywhere was nice. But hey the graphics were nice and it's a mechwarrior title so yay.
IAMELIPHAS you forgot the fact that the guys doing battletech went bankrupt and couldn't afford to make a new Mechwarrior game titled "MW3", thus they had to make 2 more "mechwarrior 2s" before things went better and 1 of them (ghost bear legacy) was sadly very bad with bugs and potholes everywhere. MW3- while buggy, had some revolutionary mechanics and recognition as well as being far more graphically intense being one of the highest graphic games out there that if your PC can run it on max your friends were jelly. You should be happy that there was even a MW3 and 4 to begin with and due to the fact MW: O and MW: LL drawed elements and inspiration of MW4 (and 2 a little bit) this game is as important then the others. You should also remember the trend of "mech games = awesome" started to decline drasticly so if this game wasn't good in any way shape or form besides soundtrack like you suggest- then the franchise most likely would have died there for the computer platforms... even if it had such a good soundtrack that people should get it- this is back when the soundtrack can be bought seperately... meaning people do not even need to buy a MW game for it's best part but simply buy the 80% cheaper CD that has all the soundtracks and extra...
+IAMELIPHAS beings I grew up on that game I can't really say anything without looking biased, but I'll say it was the best game of 99-01 to play on the PC
well compared to MW3 it was nice to have *some* good music. MW2 had fantastic music, and then 3 had almost no music. So this little bit of great music was very welcome.
Really MW3 is incredible that it was able to live up to MW2. MW2 was a bloated game that was released late and burned through programmers due to feature creep. Really it's what made MW2 so great, but it's not a good way to make games sustainably. MW3 set the bar even higher and to this day is still the only Mechwarrior game where the foot animation is algorithmically generated for each footstep rather than being part of a canned animation loop. So you can get things like I 'Mech with one foot on a higher ledge than the lower one, and it all lines up. It also has some of the best physics out of all the MW games. This company had also made training sims for the military. Unfortunately the mobile field bases made me dislike this game compared to MW2. Just totally broke my suspension of disbelief during the single player campaign to be able to spend 5 seconds in a sparking and glowing box and come out 100%. If they canned the MFB 5 second repair aspect and added in more lore like MW2 did this would have been a contender for my favorite MW title.
Mech 3 made me fall in love with the Bushwhacker. Such a good all-rounder.
+BladeLigerV yeah, one of the best, I remember sticking an ER large laser on the nose and then giving it a streak 6 and a couple medium pulse lasers, almost never lost. even to heavy mechs
Me too... I still used it on MW4
I
on that 1st mission tho, the heat is horrendous lol
@@TheRumChum yeah one large laser fired and youre almost capped out
Best line in this game "Pirate mechs, ahoy!" "Did you just say..."
Nevermind what he said. Get to work, you two!
Mechwarrior 3 and MW3 Pirates Moon are still some of my favorite games.

no one makes this style of music for games anymore :( its always these samey "epic" orchestras nowadays.
This is very specific to the late 90's. Lots of TV shows had very similar soundtracks. Have a listen at Babylon 5's OST, you'll see some similarities.
Bushwacker is about 10 seconds away from fucking everyone up.
pirates moon secret mission thing.... where everyone tries to kill you on that island ... felt so betrayed...
BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED! + original mechwarrior 3
So many epic battles fought to this song in the Instant Action. Favorite match up; Elemental vs Atlas. Just like in the Test of Vengeance book :D

love this music, MW fan, but I play this out loud with the boys.
I remember online play and I had only a 56k modem so I always got destroyed by the people with T1 using shadow cat laser boats.

You are loyal sir. I salute you!.
My first game as well, still gives chills
Hey, is there any way I might be able to score a MP3 of this tune? I have been looking everywhere, but can't find it.
sounds a lot like Heroes of Might and Magic 1/2/3 battle musc
anyone else play MW3 (Mercs or PM) reply your favorite build and comment it

Any mech with LOTS of heavy machine guns would chew anything up in seconds.

Duane Decker. And yes, they used him for MW3, MW4 Vengeance, and MechCommanders 1 and 2.
Glad they did, because he's magnificent at doing his job. His music is soooo so good. 😉
where can i download the game for windows XP?
Where can I download the game for windows 10 ?😂
you should be able to rip it from the pirates moon disk, that worked for me.
Yeah.. I ran into a bug on XP where my jumpjets wouldn't lift... you can imagine the pain :P
+UFR00lz of the game(s) or the soundtrack(s)?
+Jacob Hodgen The game! :D MechWarrior Online is okay too I guess
gimme a decent engine and time to learn it and sure I want the same thing
