    The first job in IT is the hardest to get. The best thing you can do is a combination of formal education, certifications, and home labs. Whatever you do, once you get the first job, keep pursuing formal education, certifications, and new experiences! Help desk work, especially at a MSP, is a great way to get a lot of experience in a short amount of time.

    Thanks for the video, man. I've worked IT-adjacent (medical equipment/systems repair) the last 5 years but I started school for IT this past summer and accepted a job offer for an IT technician (help desk, hardware maintenance, etc.) yesterday. I'm worried about going from $57k/year to $50k/year but it's promising to know that my income ceiling is higher with IT than in my current career. Also, the $50k is a placeholder until the 90-day probation is up.

    Started making $19hr back in 2021 working as a cellphone repair tech… applied at 22 different IT jobs before getting a call back… finally got a call from a staffing agency offering $21 for service desk position (August 2022). They liked my interview and got hired. Was contractor for 6 months and then I was offered a full time position and pay increase to $24hr…. It def takes time but it’s a ladder. Im 24 and I just applied for a IT help desk analyst for the department of the navy with SAIC. I dont have prior experience in IT and never went to college. But i was a heavy mobile equipment mechanic apprentice for 2 years for the shipyard making $20 when i left last year. Been struggling doing low paying jobs and was just over it. So i ended up applying for the shipyard again and landing a boiler maker job but i dont know if they are starting me back at my pay. Then i applied for the IT job last week and they just got back to me yesterday. Don’t know what route to go but i do want to get into Cybersecurity instead of working jobs that use my body.

    • @bathingapes328
      @bathingapes328 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take the IT job and get some experience. WGU has a cybersecurity program that has about 13 certs, I'm currently enrolled and it's been good so far. IT is a big industry, cybersecurity is also a big industry within IT; but it does require experience over certs. But if you grind it out, you'll have all 3. I got out of the HVAC industry for the same reason, it doesn't make sense to put a toll on my body for $15 an hour when I could work from home lol

    I worked help desk at a financial software company in Australia called MYOB. MYOB stands for "Mind Your Own Business." MYOB was six floppy disks in DOS at a dusty warehouse...actually, it was like fourteen DOS disks you had to load into the most high-end machine you could find; hopefully an entire two megabytes of RAM to get it to do its magic. Some bloke in OZ bought this DOS mess and turned it into the ONE financial shop in OZ! Magic, Joseph Campbell Star Wars Hero Horseshit sold to Vulture Capitalist Baine Capital at the first sign of an actual heartbeat!!

    I'm captivated by every word. I read a book with similar content, and I was completely captivated. "Mastering AWS: A Software Engineers Guide" by Nathan Vale

    Oooh man, starting off with Apex sounds rough. They're one of the worst companies I've ever talked with, they were so bad I didn't even bother inteviewing.
