Really appreciate this series. Moriarty is essentially using Light Yagami's methodology (kill all bad guys, no bad guys left, world good) but with Lelouch vi Britannia's ideology (the strong and privileged have a duty to protect the poor and weak). And it's all handled beautifully. It's great.
No, Moriarty's plan is far better and far more mature and far more realistic then Light's Plan. Moriarty is cunning criminal mastermind while Light is just a really smart high school student with a God Complex.

me too, i'm watching the anime and i read the mangá, i love it this series and i also don't understand why is so underrated, but I think I have an idea of why, I believe it's because so much of the series' release happened, mainly, in the period when some well-known or famous anime was released.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but William is somewhat self aware. He admits in the manga (im not sure if this happens in the anime, since I've only now started to catch up) that he knows people are gonna need a person to blame for his & his fellow associates' crimes. He also says that he's content in being that person. On the other side, he has set up Sherlock to be the good guy, the protagonist of their play. Another way how he differs from Light. He acknowledges that he's breaking his own moral code & is ready to die, because of that. Light was egocentric & saw himself as a flawless being. Edit: William says The Lord of Crime will the the common evil that joins both sides in season two episode three
Moriarty the Patriot is the only anime series what made me read the manga. And maybe, I like the manga even more, there are so many great plots what the anime didn't adapt (the Baskerville one or Moran's adventure, for example)...
This is such a mastermind anime that not many can like, it's really special, the story, the characters, no simp big boobs girls, it's all about the story and characters personalities and it gets you in. It's just giving me a pure pleasure. Like death note, psycho pass, now Moriarty. It's just sad these two are this underrated. Also, I love this kind of artstyle, it's my favorite, following psycho pass. Remember, not everyone has the mind to love something like this. :) Enjoy
Oh Gintama is a much harder anime to watch than this one for sure. I prefer animes with great story and characters but one that builds off of humour can be a tad tougher as it wears out fast compared to rivalries like this one. The art style doesn't bug me unless it looks like what pokemon did to Sun and Moon 😂
I’m not a Sherlock Holmes person I’m not a mystery person I’m not a historical fiction person But god I love this anime! Just goes to show how great the anime is
fuckin FINALLY someone talks about this man, it's so damn good. people really just put off by the BL artstyle but like this is one of the best sherlock holmes stories out there. the series really shifts into high gear once sherlock himself enters the picture and we get the proper moriarity vs holmes mindgames. just so much fun.

Whenever someone asks for a recommendation similar to death note, I always guide them to watch Moriarty the Patriot. It is unbelievably good yet so severely underrated! Thanks for talking about it!!!
after watching death note, i honestly didn't feel like doing anything. i just sat there with this empty feeling after you finish a masterpiece. L really left a mark on me 😩

I think the main difference between death note and mtp is the character framing. Light isn’t exactly likable, as opposed to Moriarty who the watchers can actually root for. Moriarty knows he has to die in order to achieve his ideals. Light, however, even after being told by Ryuk that if he killed all the bad people, he’d be the only bad person left, laughs it off and claims that he is above judgement because he’s « god of the new world ». Light is framed as a psychopathic killer drowning in narcissistic delusion, while Moriarty is given a backstory we can sympathize with and is shown to have a strong moral compass. A gray moral compass, indeed, but a strong one nevertheless. Whereas Light starts killing anyone who gets in his way and calls it collateral damage, Moriarty sticks to his initial views and even condemns himself. Also, Light and L are rivals down to the bone and they are NOT friends. Sherlock sees Moriarty as a friend and deems that he is worth saving; L simply wants to catch Kira and bring him to justice. By the end, Light loses and the message that his ideals were immoral is already sent to the viewer. Moriarty the Patriot delivers a more ambiguous end, in which Moriarty doesn’t really lose. He sees his plan through, including the part where he gets caught. In a twist of events, Sherlock proves he cares for him anyway and jumps down with him. Almost as a metaphorical « fall from grace » with Moriarty, because he considers him a friend. We as the viewer, are given the choice to forgive Moriarty. In death note, the criminals are not framed as the villains, nor are they framed at all; Light, however is undoubtedly evil. MTP frames the upper crust lords as arrogant and cruel and moriarty as…well, a morally gray Robin Hood. They’re similar stories and yet so different! This is all hastily written and superficial but you get the gist! I’d love to write a better thought out essay about this.
I don't know why people are sleeping on this brilliant anime series. The sheer cunning style, no unnecessary overtwisted plots to make it mysterious. Every episode made me gripped on my seat
I love how in an unjust world, Moriarty's perverse POV almost makes lot of sense, but the end doesn't justify the means here. His way of achieving the goal is always unlocking other people's dark side, or as he calls it, criminal consultant. I'm just 3 eps in. but already so hooked! Albert's character is so interesting.
Because deep down a lot of people also want someone like Moriarty to punish the people in power when we know they won't get the punishment they deserve just because theybhave "friends in high places". You can't tell me you've never been frustrated with the goverment or rich people who seemed to get away with things and sometimes you wish someone would just do something to give us justice.
Yes I noticed that in the first few episodes. Moriarty actively looked for and triggered someone else's bloodlust to get the job done. It was the one thing that truly disturbed me when I started watching and it's brilliant.
Now I am watching this anime with all my family, and we love it! 90% of my family is in Sherlock team, we believe Moriarty should be stopped at any cost, the rest want to see London burn in the flames of Revenge XD
I am questioning why this series is underrated and for me this story reminded me of Code Geass, in many ways. Well made in the manga and the anime both VA and art was beautiful. And as a Sherlock fan (basic knowledge in the famous stories & personality of some of the characters) this really was the best, even the portrayal of the characters.
That's exactly what I was thinking about! It is similar to Code Geass in the sense that both Lelouch and William adopted the same approach in order to put an end to the cycle of hatred and the class system their countries have been living in for years. I find such characters to be magnificantly outstanding!

I wouldn't say it's Death Note's successor. Death Note have mind games and solution patterns that you can actually figure out by yourself with cleverness. In Moriarty the Patriot, every crime is done without a setting/useful clue(s) to let the viewer figure out the character(s) next move or how they'll be able to identify the culprit. Most situations are done in a way that you can't expect. The only aspect that could associate both shows would be that the protagonists kill people for their beliefs and someone as clever as them is trying to catch them. Both shows are good in their own way but are slightly different in terms of what is good and bad in the story, the pacing, the character(s) development, etc.

Moriarty the patriot season 1 is so fkin amazing! The opening is so fkin good! Season 2 felt rushed to me and wasnt that good as season 1 for me but still great show and deserves more attention. I love both season's openings ost, just amazing.
Wasn’t surprised that Part 2 would get the “rushed” treatment since it was clear they were going to wrap this all up in 1 Season. Regardless, I’d still say that this was a great watch. Part 1: 9.5/10 Part 2: 8/10 Overall: 9/10

I have watched the entire twice and still can't get over this. This is so man underrated... I guess this should be the talk of the town. It is filled with so many tiny details which keeps the ply engaging. Btw, you have noticed a lot more details than I did. Awesome work..
5:30 you say he’s deciding who gets to live or die by judging them, but his entire character is him wallowing in guilt for his actions. When Fred tells him that what Moriarty is doing is justice, Moriarty replies that he never thought what he was doing was justice. He literally says he doesn’t believe one person can judge another, and he actually tries to die cuz he’s so fucking depressed. Anyway I just started the video so if you mentioned that ignore me, but he really does address that exact point near the end of part 1, he’s a mad murderer but also very precious, he really deserves better 😢
Moriarty was a smart kid, more like gifted. At first started killing because of his hatred toward the aristocrats so he did not feel anything after killing them but the gruesomeness would definitely affect a normal child. As he was mature it did not affect him too much, at least not in a noticeable way. But soon be started to feel the guilt because he wasn't a sociopath or psychopath he's normal person with normal conscience. He kept pushing because he thought as he was smart it was his responsibility to change the system, it was his purpose in life. He ignored the guilt until he started to see himself as a murderer. Not being able to voice his feelings he started feeling lonely despite being Surrounded by people. And the fact that he had to die at the end of his plan was to give all the people a common enemy and bring them closer + he thought he deserved to die since he was a murderer. My analysis on Moriarty's feels throughout the anime
When I watched this, it was way after this video came out, and I got to watch it in dub the first time around. They did indeed give everyone fantastically accurate british accents. Wonderful to watch
Another thing that links this anime to Death Note in the contrast of colors between the two rivals. Light and Moriarty are red and L and Sherlock are blue. Whenever they're locked in this battle of wits, the scene would use the color contrast, signifying their opposition. As far as I recall, this anime uses the glow of their eyes and Death Note uses the whole frame(?)

This anime is one of my second favorites animes ever and I instantly fell in love with it, it's beautiful and I love the characters. I especially love the plot, I could watch it over and over again. Never getting bored of it, when I saw this video in my recommendation I freaked. The way you describe it is amazing and just makes me so happy someone has made a video about it, after all it's not that popular comparing to other anime's which are very popular and I'm sure everyone has heard about at least once. i finally watched moriarty the patriot and gosh i am in love. the way moriarty is resolute on their goals and their personality is just top tier. i am in love with william moriarty, his character is just *chef's kiss*
I’m loving the anime🔥🔥 definitely in my top fav anime of all time. I’m on tv second season, I even got the Sherlock Holmes complete book series 😅. I just love the anime.
the only thing I don't like about the anime version in particular, is how they cut a good amount of plot or material for characterization of the side characters like Fred and Moran. Hell, they cropped out an entire character and two entire arcs as well as probably the most wholesome sherliam interaction. the pacing was also a little rushed and they changed a little too much of the plot. overall I'm so happy it got animated. I hope for the next season they are going more precisely by the manga. but I guess it might be a little hard since the new arc is heavily inspired by a Hollywood film. I really hope that people watching the anime will also read the manga since it's really good.
Just discovered this series the other day and I can definitely agree it's underrated. But it's not surprising. Many great anime are usually shoved under the radar and overshadowed by the hyped up series. Someone could argue that anime like Code Geass and Death Note were popular *at one point* , but that was when they were releasing episodes. Now you look at these amazing series and see they're barely given a thought except by people who have been long time fans. Then we have series like this and Psycho Pass that are fantastic and still getting new episodes and/or movies yet no one really pays them any mind. It's sad really, but it's always nice to find other people who love and appreciate these underrated series.

Just finished this. It was absolutely AWESOME. I didn't realize they were retelling The Final Problem until the end and I didn't even know that was a book 😅. I loved the dark atmosphere and how they made it that Moriarty and Sherlock were actually friends, just for the plot twist. Absolutely amazingly done! People are sleeping on this!!!
I can't remember precisely how I came across MTP but knowing me I probably snooped through other people's reading list on a manga website to find smth new The cover stood out to me so I gave it a try I wasn't too into it at first, but I persevered bc of the Sherlock Holmes setup, I crave it And it was amazing! I couldn't sing anything but praise, I'd love a physical copy (tho my country doesn't sell those in malls unfortunately, can't trust online shopping these days) It's truly a gem, underrated, I'm getting poetic just talking about it huh 👓

I didn't watch your full video because I haven't watched the anime yet. I've been reading the manga and I really love it! It also reminded me of Death Note. I want to watch the anime too but I'm still debating if I should watch it right away or wait until I've finished the manga. However the manga is kinda slow to come out in english. This Anime is one of the best Animes, what I have ever seen. We have so many Characters from the Sherlock Holmes Storys and short Characters or Plots from James Bond or British Storys, like Jack the Ripper. I love the many sort of characters and the POV from Liam. It tells so much the Vision about Moriarty. And we have this wonderful Arrstyle, the good fucking Storyline and many Ships xD (sorry, but Sherliam is fucking Canon. Look to the Manga, than you know xd) If been Falling in Love with Liam, Bond and Fred :')
Actually, theres a new anime based off of this, and might be the canon continuation (not sure) its called Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions, and Ron Kamonohashi (the genius detective) is actually a DESCENDANT of Holmes and Moriarty meaning he has Sherlock's and Moriarty's blood, meaning the Holmes and Moriarty families actually interwined and reproduced.
To be fair deep in his gut Sherlock already knew Moriarty HAD to be the mastermind. There was no way it could be anyone else. The problem was he had to prove it

So my husband and I just started watching this anime a few days ago and we are obsessed! I literally told him, "Whoa, it's Light without the Death Note!"
I just finished the show... the first episodes where a bit too on the nose for me, but the reviews were damn good so I kept watching. Sherlock got introduced and the dynamic between him and Moriarty was really fun and made me want to watch more. And by the time the series ended, well... if you've seen it also I don't think I need to say anything more. Rarely have I ever been so glad I kept watching an anime despite not liking the first couple of episodes.
Regarding the blind call. I definitely think he knew, but as we know it’s not what you know it’s what you can prove. So even if he knew he would still have to prove it

In Moriarty the Patriot, every crime is done without a setting/useful clue(s) to let the viewer figure out the character(s) next move or how they'll be able to identify the culprit. Most situations are done in a way that you can't expect. The only aspect that could associate both shows would be that the protagonists kill people for their beliefs and someone as clever as them is trying to catch them.
Both shows are good in their own way but are slightly different in terms of what is good and bad in the story, the pacing, the character(s) development, etc.
It's definitely the most underrated anime of this season

Moriarty the patriot season 1 is so fkin amazing! The opening is so fkin good! Season 2 felt rushed to me and wasnt that good as season 1 for me but still great show and deserves more attention. I love both season's openings ost, just amazing.

Wasn’t surprised that Part 2 would get the “rushed” treatment since it was clear they were going to wrap this all up in 1 Season. Regardless, I’d still say that this was a great watch.

At first i didnt realise earlier, i had kinda forgotten that Sherlock was in the serie
5:30 you say he’s deciding who gets to live or die by judging them, but his entire character is him wallowing in guilt for his actions. When Fred tells him that what Moriarty is doing is justice, Moriarty replies that he never thought what he was doing was justice. He literally says he doesn’t believe one person can judge another, and he actually tries to die cuz he’s so fucking depressed. Anyway I just started the video so if you mentioned that ignore me, but he really does address that exact point near the end of part 1, he’s a mad murderer but also very precious, he really deserves better 😢
Moriarty was a smart kid, more like gifted. At first started killing because of his hatred toward the aristocrats so he did not feel anything after killing them but the gruesomeness would definitely affect a normal child. As he was mature it did not affect him too much, at least not in a noticeable way. But soon be started to feel the guilt because he wasn't a sociopath or psychopath he's normal person with normal conscience. He kept pushing because he thought as he was smart it was his responsibility to change the system, it was his purpose in life. He ignored the guilt until he started to see himself as a murderer. Not being able to voice his feelings he started feeling lonely despite being Surrounded by people. And the fact that he had to die at the end of his plan was to give all the people a common enemy and bring them closer + he thought he deserved to die since he was a murderer.

Another thing that links this anime to Death Note in the contrast of colors between the two rivals. Light and Moriarty are red and L and Sherlock are blue. Whenever they're locked in this battle of wits, the scene would use the color contrast, signifying their opposition. As far as I recall, this anime uses the glow of their eyes and Death Note uses the whole frame(?)

This anime is one of my second favorites animes ever and I instantly fell in love with it, it's beautiful and I love the characters. I especially love the plot, I could watch it over and over again. Never getting bored of it, when I saw this video in my recommendation I freaked. The way you describe it is amazing and just makes me so happy someone has made a video about it, after all it's not that popular comparing to other anime's which are very popular and I'm sure everyone has heard about at least once. This video was amazing and I loved it!

the only thing I don't like about the anime version in particular, is how they cut a good amount of plot or material for characterization of the side characters like Fred and Moran. Hell, they cropped out an entire character and two entire arcs as well as probably the most wholesome sherliam interaction. the pacing was also a little rushed and they changed a little too much of the plot. overall I'm so happy it got animated. I hope for the next season they are going more precisely by the manga. but I guess it might be a little hard since the new arc is heavily inspired by a Hollywood film. I really hope that people watching the anime will also read the manga since it's really good.

Just discovered this series the other day and I can definitely agree it's underrated. But it's not surprising. Many great anime are usually shoved under the radar and overshadowed by the hyped up series.
Someone could argue that anime like Code Geass and Death Note were popular *at one point* , but that was when they were releasing episodes. Now you look at these amazing series and see they're barely given a thought except by people who have been long time fans. Then we have series like this and Psycho Pass that are fantastic and still getting new episodes and/or movies yet no one really pays them any mind. It's sad really, but it's always nice to find other people who love and appreciate these underrated series.

Just finished this. It was absolutely AWESOME. I didn't realize they were retelling The Final Problem until the end and I didn't even know that was a book 😅. I loved the dark atmosphere and how they made it that Moriarty and Sherlock were actually friends, just for the plot twist. Absolutely amazingly done! People are sleeping on this!!!

I didn't watch your full video because I haven't watched the anime yet. I've been reading the manga and I really love it! It also reminded me of Death Note. I want to watch the anime too but I'm still debating if I should watch it right away or wait until I've finished the manga. However the manga is kinda slow to come out in english. I'm waiting for volume 3 to be available.

This Anime is one of the best Animes, what I have ever seen. We have so many Characters from the Sherlock Holmes Storys and short Characters or Plots from James Bond or British Storys, like Jack the Ripper. I love the many sort of characters and the POV from Liam. It tells so much the Vision about Moriarty. And we have this wonderful Arrstyle, the good fucking Storyline and many Ships xD (sorry, but Sherliam is fucking Canon. Look to the Manga, than you know xd)

Actually, theres a new anime based off of this, and might be the canon continuation (not sure) its called Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions, and Ron Kamonohashi (the genius detective) is actually a DESCENDANT of Holmes and Moriarty meaning he has Sherlock's and Moriarty's blood, meaning the Holmes and Moriarty families actually interwined and reproduced.

No, Moriarty did actually predict that. literally everything that happens in the show is part of Moriarty's plan, or something he figured out later and worked into the plan. this scene was him testing to see if Sherlock was worthy for Moriarty's future plans, if he wasn't Moriarty would just have him silenced (which he easily can)

So my husband and I just started watching this anime a few days ago and we are obsessed! I literally told him, "Whoa, it's Light without the Death Note!"
I just finished the show... the first episodes where a bit too on the nose for me, but the reviews were damn good so I kept watching. Sherlock got introduced and the dynamic between him and Moriarty was really fun and made me want to watch more. And by the time the series ended, well... if you've seen it also I don't think I need to say anything more. Rarely have I ever been so glad I kept watching an anime despite not liking the first couple of episodes.
