When I tried AOT for the first time, I came out of episodes 1 and 2 disliking it and discarded the series for a while. I was eventually convinced to give it another try. Episodes 3 and 4 got me invested in the characters. Trost hooked me. Trost moves into top tier for me, the opening moves into the bottom, training goes up.
dude same, I watched the first season as a kid then I stopped. After Pewdiepie watched season two I watched half of it and fell off again. Only after season four was releasing did I come back and I'm so glad I did.
I think what you talk about towards the end with how the rumbling happens and seeing the individual deaths just one by one instead of the avengers infinity war approach of just *poof* half of all life is gone. We as the audience are kinda forced to witness the murder that eren is committing while sitting there with our jaws on the floor unable to stop or change anything. Brilliant

Excellent one, can't believe how locked in I get watching you talk about this show. It's like it could have been three hours and I'd still be feeling like it was only half of one. But then again, my sense of time is somewhat messy. I hope I don't find out I'm in a fixed timeline, but I wouldn't be tooooo surprised. Many thanks for all your awesome work!!! 😁
Ive watched aot in its entirety more than 4 times and declaration of war is still my favorite episode. The character moments, score, and movie monster finale make it the complete package
It always strikes me how terrifying the female titan is in her first appearance. Annie literally solos the og levi squad. She's freakin force of nature
When she turns that corner and starts stomping after eren and levi, with that fantastic score in the background echoing her footsteps, like doomdrums, and that crazed almost psychopathic look in her eyes, that's just a fantastically terrifying moment. And then eren trusting the squad only to have his hopes dashed and him fully embracing his individual strength so as to never again have to live through losing his comrades. It's just....chef's kiss.
@@RedFloyd469 she totally has the scariest titan expressions, maybe besides the beast. The female titan always has this air of intelligence and mild amusement thats chilling when attributed to a literal colossus. Kinda gives me the same vibe as when pitou is behaving like a cat and spots powerful prey
51:15 The difference between Porco and Marcel would be tact and tactics IMO. Marcel is a more natural leader and I think he’d be more patient than Porco. Porco is outspoken and blitzed Eren down the first chance he had. For better or worse I think Marcel would’ve waited for back up or an advantage.
It's crazy to imagine its been a year already, I started watching attack on titan when season 4 part started coming out. Shortly after season 4 finished, I shipped off to basic training. When the final parts released me, some friends in a discord screen share, and the people in my platoon who also enjoyed aot all sat in the barracks for a watch along. It's one of my favorite memories, and it's hard to believe its already been a year since then
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO!!! Love the discussion format! Just not a fan of having so much "facecam" in there but it's only because I personally find it distracting to watch someone phisically talk to me in a video that isn't live, and I enjoy having a visual aid for what is being talked about. I also find it...weird to be watching someone talk to me while I eat, which happens to be most of my TH-cam time lol. I know this is experimental, just giving my two cents! Keep up the great work!!
36:45 Manga heavily goes into the public perspective especially towards the scouts. I think that's the reason why the end of this arc with Erwin screaming and Levi getting thanked by the crowd is very precious.
1:09:18 Faye had a similar dream where she dreams of being rich enough to fly in an airship. Grisha reminds her that they’ll never be rich enough to do that, but the. She says, “ it’s nice to dream about it though”. That spurs Grisha to grab her hand and run outside the walls of Liberio
1:20:00 When the chapters for the endings came out (138-139) this was my reaction. I think Connie and Jean *should've* died there. they had no business surviving that last bit.
Thank you for being born into this world and creating this video that justifies all my emotions of what I feel towards Attack on Titan. Coming from a random person of the internet or should I say: Somewhere in this world.
23:40 I think Ymir actually mentions Sasha having an accent or way of speaking that comes from where she grew up, but I could be wrong! They talk about it during the training arc I believe
with hearing you always gush about the soundtrack and osts, theyre finally going on an aot orchestral tour!! I really hope you're able to make it out to one of them!! :)
Darnit- I'm trying to start a new anime just to watch something new. But I think you've convinced me with this video to do another spin on AOT. Although I want to experience new things, I continually miss the complexity, nuance, and intrigue of this show. (I particularly liked the description of this show not only exploring complex and interesting themes, but paradoxally opposing, yet simultaneously true thematic ideas and characters. I suppose I understand why this isn't done often, heck I can barely *describe* it on a high level. But I'm spoiled now and miss it elsewhere.)
I like to view Ramzi's purpose as the exact same as Marlo's; they both represent the individual amongst the "number" of deaths that we may disregard otherwise. Btw I love how aot always uses a side character as an example of a "what would happen to a person in that situation". Like Floch is the answer to what if one of the soldiers in the suicide charge survived. Ymir is an example of what if a pure titan succeeded in eating a titan shifter (and actually chewed lol). Marco is an example of what if someone found out about R&B before they were caught. Even Xaver and Reiner's parents are an example of what if an Eldian and Marleyan had a son. Like there is always a character that represents a situation that otherwise we wouldn't have seen happen because they're the exception. And it's very interesting because they're the only characters with that unique experience and each and every backstory is different. Aot shows you every single pov in the story. Like Sannes and even the bystander Shadis; they all were there and had a certain perspectives. It's not just main cast vs enemies.
About wanting the story to "develop aspect further" like the Wall religion and Wall Maria's population, that's a common complain (specially when only season 1 was out. People said the show was "superficial" with everything at the time lol). Regardless of whether it is a valid criticism or not, I honestly don't think that would *improve* SNK, and I'll tell why. As you said in the video, Shingeki *doesn't have a single bad episode.* And that's one of the most impressive things it has done. There is slower or (seemly) less important episodes, like "The night of the battle to retake the wall" where there's only talking and reminiscing, but in fact even those episodes are crucial. Even the one I mentioned is incredibly important; It's where Erwin drops his first death flag in his talk with Levi; It's where Levi learns about Armin's dream when overhearing his conversation with Eren and Mikasa. All that leads to his choice in "Midnight Sun". In Shingeki, just the most harmless scenes - like a minor character inviting the father of a secondary character to eat in his restaurant - actually become suble setup to something BIG. All of that is what makes EVERY SINGLE EPISODE become relevant. This goddamn anime have more relevant stuff happening in one ep (that has the average of 20 minutes max) than the average TV Show ep (which can go up to 1 hour), and that's just mind-blowing. So, let's imagine the story spends more time on the Wall Religion. How, and for how long? Which character will we follow to see more of them, and to *what end* all this time spend will go? Will it lead to some important theme or plot point or character development? It needs to have a purpose. And more importantly, it needs to keep the *pacing.* Basically, it would be nearly impossible to develop all those things just for "worldbuilding" sake without inevitably getting a few weak (or even bad) episodes in return.
I’m sure someone has commented this, and I’m pretty sure you just misspoke but at about 16:00, you mentioned how the Petra thing is genius because of stories left untold, and that’s true BUT: it’s even more genius/ heartbreaking because the dad is being very mundane in that he mentions that Petra liked Levi, and that while she can make her own decisions she’s still so young, he’s not aware that she’s dead so he’s having a cute father in law type talk with Levi
Korotos if you haven't seen the movie "Coherence" I would recommend it- without spoiling too much, it goes into some of the thoughts you went through in this video. Patiently waiting for your next walking dead retrospective :D
I wouldnt mind an ova of just world building as i really enjoy it especially in aot. The lost girls ova is amazing and i really found it interesting. It showed us a lot about regular people in aot and their life in the walls. Also the s3 part 1 that everyone likes the least is one of my favorite and most enjoyable for some reason
Koroto, you need sleep your eyes are looking dark. Almost like mine. Well not even close actually, mine are so dark people think I'm dead sometimes. I wonder if my last name being Panda has anything to do with it.
The sound effect on the Armin uncloacking scene seems to be done by using some sort of sampling technique. The original sample is probably either just noise from a synthesizer or just a random snippet of a storm. If I were to voice my not so educated guess, I would say that the technique used here is the combination of granular sampling and some sort of tape emulation. And in the second half of that sound effect, maybe some distortion was used to amplify the intensity of the moment. But this sort of sound effects are hard to pinpoint because similar results can be achieved in many different ways.
iirc the Berserk Titan was worked in a bit as that was future eren/ymir's influence working so hard that Eren wasn't acting consciously, similar to when he's rambling to himself in prison during the Grisha flashbacks. Can interpret it however you want really too. Ymir could've been speaking out saying she was free and going to get revenge, it's Eren crazily reinforcing his resolve at that time, or its Future Eren psyching his past self up/scaring himself saying like "if you keep fighting, you'll reach your idea of freedom and kill everyone." I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Isayama adjusted the story as he wrote it to work that plot point in. He was rather involved in the anime production as a consultant and to fix issues he had with the manga's first telling of the story.
1:20:01 I always thought that Jean should have died while screaming “suicidal maniac” when he blows up Erens head in the finale. Would have been a little ironic to see him going out in a suicide bombing after calling eren suicidal the whole series. Jean might be my favorite character so it hurts to say but I think his death would have added some weight to the finale
To be honest, I thought the story was heading to the direction of "let's me give them a greater enemy to unite them" which was what happened. Why I thought so was that Erin had that moment before we went to Marley where he was sad amongst his friend in the cart and was talking that he wants to remember that moment and apologised to them. Same thing in Marley before he grew cold, where he apologised to that kid, Ramsey, for what he was going to do. It portrayed that Erin wasn't happy with it but he knew it was the only way to make his people no longer look like the demons. Same thing in pushing Mikasa and Armin because he knew he needed to push them away so that can get the resolve to kill him. It's the reason why I think the other timeline where he lived happily with Mikasa was shown. That he too, lived that and the war still continued. I mean if he wanted to, he could've taken the titan power away from his former comrade or their free will. But the ending ruined it. I still think that was where it was going but ultimately, Isiyama wrote what he wrote. I'm just saying there were signs that it was the only way to save his people: Give two enemies a greater enemy to unify them. Maybe I'm just making excuses 🤷🏻. Not condoning his actions but I sympathise with him.
never liked anime before I watched attack on titan. basically had to be held at gunpoint just to watch it but I can officially say, GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME🔥🔥🔥📝
Attack on titan's biggest problem is not having more episodes, like spend more episodes with Grisha as a husband to Carla and a father to Eren and Mikasa then more time in the training arc to show their bonds but the more I think of it , I just can't see how long the story would be then people would get bored then they feel like fillers 😢 hopefully Isayama goes on to do additional volumes to add context to relationships and characters
Shiganshina: S Tier Training: C Tier Trost: A Tier Female Titan: S Tier Stohess: A Tier Beast Titan: B Tier (castle is S tier though). Yeah. This arc lacks focus. Lacks direction. Doesn’t fell like it’s going anywhere. Titans Clashing: S Tier Royal Goverment: A Tier Return to Shiganshina: S Tier (we don’t talk about Reiner’s Balls) Outside World: A Tier Marley: A Tier Raid on Liberio: S TIER A Country Divided: S Tier War for Paradis: S Tier The Rumbling: S Tier Battle for Heaven and Earth: S Tier Damn it’s really hard not to just put everything in S Tier, huh.

I wonder if my last name being Panda has anything to do with it.
its that kush broda im in the same boat😂
Only Korotos can make me wanna rewatch AoT while I'm actively rewatching AoT.
If you're cooking more of these, I would be 100% down for it.
Ymir could've been speaking out saying she was free and going to get revenge, it's Eren crazily reinforcing his resolve at that time, or its Future Eren psyching his past self up/scaring himself saying like "if you keep fighting, you'll reach your idea of freedom and kill everyone."
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Isayama adjusted the story as he wrote it to work that plot point in. He was rather involved in the anime production as a consultant and to fix issues he had with the manga's first telling of the story.
new rockstar thumbnail "DOES HE KNOW" got so popular for some funny reasons
1:20:01 I always thought that Jean should have died while screaming “suicidal maniac” when he blows up Erens head in the finale. Would have been a little ironic to see him going out in a suicide bombing after calling eren suicidal the whole series. Jean might be my favorite character so it hurts to say but I think his death would have added some weight to the finale
In love with this video format. I know it's hard to put together though
Korotos so committed to AoT he himself is stuck in a time loop
That's the GOAT
i love the yap it’s nice to listen to at work
Early as hell. 5 minutes ago is crazy. Been like a year since I caught an upload within 10 minutes.
Eren yeager is my favorite mc and favorite representation of freedom ❤🔥 War for Paradis or the founding tian has to be my favorite arc
Great video 🎉
I think you should have cut the royal government into more parts similarly to the way you split season 2
1:02 isnt he a karl marx titan?
Just started watching -- gonna be taking a shot every time he says "cinema."
For the first time I’m early for a drop 🙌🙌🙌
I sat in a room with three other fully grown men and cried at the ending... still feels like yesterday😅
Eren already kind of trolley problems Sasha and Hange against the rest of his squad by locking in the timeline where this happens.
New drinking game. Take a shot every time you hear "Cinema" Good luck gentlemen
LESGOOOO 1 and a half hours 🥶🥶🥶
never liked anime before I watched attack on titan. basically had to be held at gunpoint just to watch it but I can officially say, GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME🔥🔥🔥📝
Attack on titan's biggest problem is not having more episodes, like spend more episodes with Grisha as a husband to Carla and a father to Eren and Mikasa then more time in the training arc to show their bonds but the more I think of it , I just can't see how long the story would be then people would get bored then they feel like fillers 😢 hopefully Isayama goes on to do additional volumes to add context to relationships and characters
ty for creating this series, or else I would have to
cuz I can't get enough of yapping about AoT
Ugh take me back 11 years ago so I can watch this again for the first time 😭
If we don't get a Great Titan War prequel series I'm boutta do the Rumbling myself

Royal Goverment: A Tier
Return to Shiganshina: S Tier (we don’t talk about Reiner’s Balls)
Outside World: A Tier
Marley: A Tier
Raid on Liberio: S TIER
