    I had to pause your video to make a comment or two. First off, you are the sweetest man. I love Almond Roca - it's one of my favorite candies, I've been eating it for over 45 years and can't wait to make this recipe. When you talked about your granddaughter, Ramona, and future grandkids you might have, what you said made me tear up. I have 3 grandkids ages 3-7 and often think about the grandkids/great-grands that might be born after I'm gone. I love them all too. You also talked about the 100 pennies Dorothy gave you as a gift one year and all you could see was 100 pieces of Bazooka bubblegum. I loved this!! I remember when Bazooka was a penny a piece. Bazooka was my #1 favorite treat as a kid. I'd return glass pop bottles to the store and buy Bazooka with the pennies I'd get for the bottles. Me and my friends would have bubble-blowing contests and I won every time. I was chewing 2 pieces once and blew a bubble twice as big as my head and it popped suddenly, covering my entire face and head of long hair. My mom had to cut most of my hair off to get the gum out. Anyway, I'm just rambling, but your little stories spurred these memories in me and I wanted to share. Thanks for posting these recipes. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Now, back to your video..... :)

    This was one of the best candy making videos I've seen. My mom passed five years ago and for a gift for my little sister I made copies of Mom's pecan and pumpkin pie recipes that were in her handwriting and put them in a frame for her to hang in her kitchen.

    Cool for 3 minutes.
    Add Rice Krispie’s and marshmallows.
    2 C Rice Krispies
    1 10 oz bag of mini marshmallows
    Fold and stir till the white of the marshmallows are gone.

    I love how you explain so thoroughly even down to how to soak the pan! That toffee edged out the other two for me but just barely, all looks so delicious. Thanks so much. Now here is a story from my neck of woods. You mentioned California Almonds. My neighbor & friend raises bees, hundreds of hives which he sells honey at his farm, at Farmer's Markets, in local stores and on Etsy. Yesterday he loaded a flatbed Semi with beehives, 3 high and filled the complete bed after dark when they were in the hive for the night. Early next morning a fine mesh tarp was strapped on them and they headed for the Amond fields of California to pollinate since they are short on bees there. It also keeps more of the bees alive thru winter in California as opposed to cold snowy Ohio--a Win Win for them both.

    • @markellyfarm
      @markellyfarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of the bees in California for almond blossoms come from the midwest. Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska etc. Every year they truck them out there after the temps get low enough for transport they head out. Our local guy just shipped out as well. Thanks for watching!

    I made the second recipe after Christmas because apparently Rice Krispies were scarce in my area during the holidays. They were so good. I took some to my neighbor and she called me back to rave about them. I lost a bunch of my recipes when one of my files crashed. This recipe was among those I lost. I recently saw another recipe that reminded me of this one. I’m so glad I bookmarked your video. I’ll be sure to backup my file this time. Thanks for the freezing nuts tip! I actually just bought a few big bags of nuts for Christmas candy. I made a batch of homemade almond joys and I roasted almonds. I had a handful left over and 1 of them had a weird sour taste when I chewed it up so i had to spit it out. Great video!

    My sisters and I were all about the candy! 5 cent large candy bars! My Dad would give us a nickel every Saturday. We would spend a half hour trying to decide which one to buy. After we moved there was a Ben Franklin 5 & 10. They had a ton of penny candy and the gum was 2 for a penny! Looking around now I can see how truly good life was back then. Loved your video and recipes. Thank you and many blessings.

    Your recipe and your memories are very good and enlightening. I remember once in a great while my dad would come home from his construction job and would’ve stopped by a store and got a dollars worth or two of penny candy. There were several of us but it was enough to share if you were smart save some for another day. Too bad kids don’t have that opportunity today.

      One of my maternal uncles was only 6 years old when I was born. I remember when we were older, he would be wanting something like a piece of candy from the country store and my grandmother would tell us that it's just as easy to wish for the store instead of one piece of candy! She also taught us that a person could share a slice of bread. That taught us not to be stingy with what we had. I am now 75, she died a long time ago, and I can see her today in my memories and follow her advice. There have been several times late that I have shared food here in the apartment building. Your comments regarding these 3 candy recopies reminded of my grandmother. We called her Mother Mae. Her father came from Ireland and married a Native American, and you could tell by looking at my Mother Mae that she was Native American. She was in her 60s when she died and her hair was still black, she was short, only 4'9" tall, and she was a butterball!
      She and my paternal grandmother both died young. Mama Kimble, as all the grandkids called her, was in her late 50s when she died. I was lucky to have both grandmothers who were great cooks. I was only 8 when Mama Kimble died and I can still remember the biscuits she made and the pies, mostly. Mother Mae made the very best cornbread! Sorry, I got on memory Lane and couldn't seem to get off!! I am going to try these recipes and maybe make so additional ones with my personal touch!
