glad to see nak redeem itself, back in the day nak's were top tier class A amps with head room for days, my 100x2 bridged peaked a over 500w which was a lot back then but also cost a lot at about $600 but then Nak disappeared for a while and came back with total garbage amps so it's nice to see them come out with amps that have some headroom again....
Holy Crap!!! This amp really surprised me with its output, but when you took the back off, looks very similar to some Massive amps! For that price? I'd rock that amp! I used to love their old head units
Nakamichi used to be a high-end brand before being bought out by Grande Holdings. They made some of the best SQ quality products for home and mobile audio. Those days are gone and only the name exists, the quality doesn't.
Its been a real long time since i ran or bought nakamuchi amps my buddy bought a 4 channel and 2 channel i believe and i hooked the amps up to a kicker L5 subwoofer set he had 2 10 inch subs in his extended cab truck the amps did much less power than i was expecting.
Knew a guy who drove a Lexus sedan around the early 90s. Nakamichi was the oem supplier for a number of those vehicles' sound systems and source units. The cassette player also controlled a 6 disc CD changer located in the trunk. The cassette player was honestly one of the cleanest players I ever heard and would seriously make anyone cast aside any doubt as to cassettes being low fidelity.
I have a suggestion that I can't find any videos on ..Nemesis NA-6KM monoblock..I got one and repaired it and i am very surprised how much power it has and how good it sounds!!
Hello , can u test kicx rx 1050d ver.2 amp ? I have it myself and I would like to know if it really has the power as specified, and there are practically no videos about it on TH-cam 😢
Nakamichi made high quality stuff back in the day, but like most well-regaurded brands, they get purchased by an investment group or large corporation and sell random, cheap electronics on name brand recognition. Very few popular brands we all are familiar with, are still privately owned by those that started the company and built it from the ground up. Don't execute me if I'm mistaken, but the ones that come to mind are Orion, JL Audio and Rockford Fosgate (though Jim Fosgate no longer owns it). I miss the days when amps were built in the USA, using high-quality components, but don't miss the high prices that they commanded. For example, in 1994 a Punch 45HD sold for $279. Thats roughly $300 for 100 watts. That Nak just tested is $100 for 800 watts.
I'm running a Nakamichi 7 channel home audio amp from way back in the day. Output is a solid 110 watts/channel. Weighs a ton, has internal cooling fans, and performs perfect even after nearly 30 years. New Nakamichi? I doubt it has any of the build quality that made their name stand out. It's too bad. Awesome video as always, thanks Joe.
Many old Toyotas in Nz carried the nakamichi brand name and omfg as a young Teen those head units were UP THERE with the early Alpine decks with its visual appeal and sound quality ( tape deck for those who dont know 😜 ) A shame their brand fell off tho
I would guess you can swap end caps around since both have removable tops. Or at least the removable parts. I don’t know if the end caps are the whole end or just a frame.
The removable part looked the same, but I didn’t try to swap them. I believe the rest of the end caps were removable as well, but idk if they could be swapped to the opposite side.
Nice vid, I had an old Toyota 1st gen 4runner that had a Nacamichi system in it. Sounded good back then. Btw, we were hit hard by Helene, a LOT of property damage. Not looking to have power for 2 more weeks. Our house and trucks were spared, or lives were spared, so I feel blessed. Glad to be able to watch your vid this morning on my cell. Woke up to cell service this morning. Making coffee on the grill and life is good. My wife and I can charge our cells in our Polaris RZR.
Nakamichi in the 80's & 90's was built well, heavy was plain looking but would always be what they advertised. Now cheap garage. This name was next to ADS, ALPINE ROCKFORD IT WAS SOLD IN THE HIGHLEND AUDIO STORE
Hey bud, Quick question about fusing if you don't mind? I'm in the process of adding a secondary lithium and an isolator. The lithium is 56AH and has 250A max charge via the BMS, so I'm wondering what fuse size would be recommended between my isolator and the lithium? The Nakamichi is pretty cool 😎
Back in 1992 I had a Nakamichi tape deck in my car. It had an azimuth adjustment for the tape heads and could pop a peice off the front to clean the heads. It was very expensive. Sold it a year later and bought an Alpine CD headunit..
@@cyberflexx953 aw man, you had the good stuff! I had an older pioneer tape deck all through high school I didn’t get my first CD player until the later part of ‘94

On the surface, it seems like an okay amp. The biggest issue I see is it's abysmal efficiency. 50% at 1 ohm. That's pretty bad. It explains the large fusing.
