  • A man who was in one of the Pentagon parking lots when the Pentagon was attacked on September 11, 2001, thought the building was hit by a missile rather than a plane, as was officially claimed. Shannon Wendell, a political-military analyst who worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, recalls that a man who worked in her office had been "outside in the parking lot when the explosion happened" on September 11. According to the official account of the attack, the Pentagon was hit by American Airlines Flight 77, a Boeing 757. However, Wendell says her colleague "thought it was a missile" that hit the building. "He didn't even see the plane," she adds. She suggests that the reason for this was that the aircraft that hit the Pentagon "came in at a very low angle, so he wouldn't have been able to [see it] anyway." This is an excerpt from an interview with Shannon Wendell recorded at the Pentagon on January 16, 2003, for the collection of video testimonies, "Voices of 9.11." The full interview is available at the website HereIsNewYorkV911.org.
