Taco sauce recipe
5 cups water
3 cups tomato paste
1 cup cider vinegar 5%
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon canning or kosher salt (no iodized salt)
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Prepare canner, jars, and lids.
In a large stainless steel saucepan, combine water, tomato paste, vinegar, corn syrup, chili powder, salt, cayenne and hot pepper sauce.
Bring to a boil over medium high heat stirring frequently.
Reduce heat and boil gently stirring frequently until the mixture is thickened to the consistency of thin commercial barbecue sauce about 30 minutes.
Ladle hot sauce into hot jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace. Remove air bubbles. Wipe rim. Center lid on jar. Screw band down until just fingertip tight.
Place jars in canner, ensuring they are completely covered with water. Bring to a boil and process for 30 minutes. Remove canner lid and wait an additional 5 minutes before removing jars. Cool and store.
Yield: About six 8-ounce jars

Such a great beginner-friendly guide! Can’t wait to try this taco sauce-homemade always tastes better!
Great video Ann ! Thank you so much for your contribution to Plan to Can !
Ann I’m so glad you’re sharing all this canning information. My mom passed away two years ago. My sisters and I helped her and daddy can when their garden would come in. I don’t remember all the steps but this will definitely help. Have a blessed day my friend
@@VICKIEWRIGHT thank you Vickie! I’m sure that brings back wonderful memories. I wish I would have been able to do that with my grandmother.
Great tutorial and love the book you shared! 😊💗
Water bath canning is a great way to start to gain confidence.
@@jl5587 so true and it’s so much fun!
Thank you for participating in this collab. I just sent this video to my daughter who is just learning how to can.
i use to watch my paternal grandmother do canning during the first part of the fall, after getting stuff out of the garden, my mother made chokecherry jams (wax sealed) had a ton of those. i miss the canning.
Thank you. I have been looking for a taco sauce recipe. Thank you for sharing
I have been meaning to can Taco sauce. Thanks for the reminder! And I just ordered the Blue book and the other little Ball book. I have the 2 fat Ball books.
Thanks for great info ❤

@@patriciawoodward2566 thank you I do too!
I’m a rebel and reuse any commercial glass jar with a lug/button lid. I also reuse my flats multiple times. Works great for me
What a great canning recipe to start off with. Thank you for sharing such a great canning project
@@lindaquigley5611 thank you so much! I didn’t realize that it was even in the book and that I had everything already to make it!
Thank you for sharing the recipe canning books you use. Love taco's, so taco sauce will definitely be in my future.
@@thehillbillychickenranch same we love tacos!
Home canned taco sauce on the shelf comes in so handy. Thanks for an informative video.
@@tamaa4057 thank you so much! I can’t wait to use it!
I’ve never made taco sauce let alone can it. I can imagine it would be more frugal to make it and can it myself and also no bad additives. Thanks for your recipe.
@@colleenjerns9239 that is so true you know exactly where all the ingredients came from and what’s in it!
I came over by way of the "Plan to Can" collaboration. Great Video! Watched it with my 7 year old son. He can't wait to make some taco sauce & can it up. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
@@chlippr77 that’s awesome that you’re seven-year-old son wants to can! What great memories you guys will share

I'm gonna make the taco sauce, too.
@@s.leeyork3848 yes I love all their books. They have so much information.
Enjoyed the video, looks like a good recipe!
My family would devour this! We are hot sauce freaks! I'm going to make this recipe this month! Can't wait!
@@valariedavis2219 I can’t wait for you to try it! I’m a wimp when it comes to spice lol
Great video, a lot of information. The taco sauce looks good. Thanks for sharing.
@@elainelucier6243 thank you so much. I appreciate you watching!
Great video ! Like you I didn’t start canning until a few years ago and was I was 62 years old . My relatives canned some but they never showed me how or talked about it . I love to can and I sure wish I had started back when I was raising my children. I would can some chicken for my daughter because she buys the canned chicken all the time but she thinks it looks ugly in the jar so it’s a no go for her .. if only she would just take a taste I’m positive she would love my canned chicken . I have the ball canning books so I’ll be making some taco sauce ! Blessings
@@beckyoverstreet7478 yes your daughter is missing out! I love the canned chicken even though it looks ugly in the jar. It’s delicious. I wish I would have started earlier. My grandmother canned but I just didn’t take an interest in it. Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate it!
I now know what my next preserving project is
@@missellie9518 I hope you try it! It was so easy to put together!
The water in the pot to start was just hot and not boiled? Thank you! I’m inspired to start now after thinking about it for so many years. What a great video.
@@lisaclerie5949 thank you so much! Yes, I just put hot water in there and let it simmer. You don’t want the water to be boiling until you start the timer.
I have been such a chicken to start canning. I just know I would be the one to give my family botulism 😅
Trust me, I was the same way. It took me years to start, but it’s really easy once you get it down. Practicing and using empty jars with water in them helps a lot.
@ that’s a good idea
I felt the same way but if you follow the steps in like a ball canning book then it’s safe to say that you won’t harm your family. It’s so easy and I love canning and I do both water bath and pressure canning . It’s a real joy to me to see my pantry shelves full of canned goods that I’ve canned myself for my family to eat . Also it tastes so much fresher and better than canned food from the grocery store . Hands down home canned tastes so much better!!Blessings
Do you prefer water bath canning or pressure canning?
I like them both. It just depends on what you’re canning. With water bath canning, you are limited to pickled items and jellies mostly. I like them both and when you combine the two together, you can make so many different meals.
