    It appears the NRL 5 was common practice on the early 50K horns. I have a 52K K5H with a NRL 5. Have not put air to it yet so your videos are the only I can find for sound.

      I am going to attempt to shim the 5 to get it to quit warbling until I can send it to Mike

      How worn down is your 5? I've seen guys put a machinist ruler across the power chamber to check the wear on the nozzle ring where the diaphragm comes in contact with it. That's usually a good indicator of significant wear. Obviously from photos your K5H has seen some hard RR service. Are you shimming the bore depth or shimming to pre-load against the diaphragm pack?

      Shimming for pre-load

      @@texasboystv noted. You could also try different diaphragm packs if shimming doesn’t work.

    Sounds just like the LIRR.

      The LIRR spec K5LL was before the K5HL. For this to be even close to sounding like LIRR, it cant be raised letter and needs a 2pc 1L bell.

      @@ANorris1979I'm under the impression that these are older raised letter bells, so they sound more like narrow font.

    Okay, seriously... WHY DON'T ALL RAISED LETTERS SOUND THIS GOOD?! HOOOOOOOH

    • @texasboystv
      @texasboystv  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a 56k so it’s got that weird 4 bell that’s not quite a 4 or 4A

      @TheRailfan360 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@texasboystv Ohhh, so it's the early raised letter bells. Do you know the frequency of the #4 here? I want to say around 500Hz.

    • @texasboystv
      @texasboystv  ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea, roughly the same bore as my 40k nrl 4a

      @TheRailfan360 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@texasboystv Hmm, that's quite flat for a #4.

    • @texasboystv
      @texasboystv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on what you are looking for and the price you are willing to pay. What horn do you have in mind?

      @@texasboystv i want a nathan 5 chime of some sort. specifically a K5H or K5L

      @texasboystv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheDwayne Railfans I found my K5H on ebay. The K5H is going to be one of the harder horns to come by especially in good condition. Keep your eyes peeled for estate sales as well as facebook marketplace. you can always join the Texas Boys TV facebook group so if i find one i can share it with you. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087310922709&mibextid=LQQJ4d
