It was nice when he got to keep talking uninterrupted. His show Texas Connection on WTNN was perfect great songs and conversation.

I do like the play Jerry just keeps taking the interview back into his own hands. You can see him getting impatient , like when the interviewer puts his foot in his mouth,... "It won't matter anyhow" -not the thing to say to Jerry Jeff. The interviewer does come across condescending as hell. I was trying to put myself in J's shoes. I almost thought Jerry was going to stop the interview and ask the Interview fellow,.. "who's running this show? You or me?"
I came to Jerry Jeff relatively late. For many years I played Mr Bo Jangles and some acquaintance of mine told me that JJW was a guy who got lucky with one song but mostly he was a drunk. Only a few years ago, maybe 5 or six or 7,I learned differently. I am 73 years old now and have been playing my guitars and writing songs, performing as a street singer since I found Neil Young, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, JamesTaylor, Mississippi Fred McDowell, GORDON LIGHTFOOT, and a 100 more ... Old dogs, children and watermelon wine-TT Hall, Willie!!! GREG BROWN-SLOW FOOD[if you ever really get so depressed and wondering what it is really all about, grab your lady and do exactly what Greg suggests.]-
Of course, Ramblin Jack, Ian Tyson-never bet 17 when you're up against the dealer. Never leave your woman around with your friends around to steal her... Years are Gambled and wasted as Summer wages. Just 2 weeks ago, I discovered NAVAJO RUG. It plugged away at it and now I have it memorized! Yep. A great, great song sung by a musical magician, Jerry Jeff.
You are correct about this interview. It could have gone sideways if not for the 'save' of Jerry. I wish just once I had seen him live😢.
Jerry Jeff Walker reminds me of Dylan:He is always in control. I remember reading the story about how he and his wife said to hell with the big record company and started their own label,... "Smart move"

first of all, jerry is very patient, but also, this was a different time, it sounds like the interview sorta knew how he was going to cut this, and we don't see that, but the main brilliant thing here is how jerry keeps saying "back to texas" it was a subtle distinction of fib and it was as brilliant as any song.

Yeah a strange interview but at end of it all, I am just so grateful I heard some of his comments about music real’ and playing and folks etc.
But...especially - two amazing songs on acoustic..I heard of JJF far too late I’m afraid ...my loss ...

Amazing the difference emotionally between Jerry and say Townes. Jerry filters his experience through his ego.

You can see JJ is TRYING to be courteous, but INSIDE he's DEFINITELY thinking "What an A-hole this guy is, how did I get myself into this?" Talk about not "connecting" on a gut level! This interviewer needs to find another line of work... IMHO. Jesus, talk about FORCED, it's like he's trying to put words in his mouth, LOL.

@@rustyshackleford3872 Thanks Rusty ..really appreciated you took the time...you too must be a fan of this much missed songster, who I found far too late...(U.K) This is a song I just have to learn/digest and play hopefully..but have yet to find a ‘How to’ cover..I can’t get over his ‘sincerity (?)’ as he performed this in that ‘strange video interview’- he did it just for himself and got lost in it..my words fail to do justice..Many thanks..

Im grateful for the interview, but have to say someone should have been in control of this process and created a conversation with the man instead of the awful approach that was actually used.

  • @marcspardello1254

All this interviewer had to do was watch a few interviews the JJW had done on his program to get a clue on how to conduct one of these things in a respectable fashion. Either way, the man did the interview and we all have more insight on his thoughts about certain things. It is just another form of entertainment...and if it is not, it may be time to go look in the mirror at yourself and start thinking about making some changes.

What a mess this is and not because of Jerry Jeff but who is the idiot(s) that disorganized this? "Interview", look it up in the dictionary.

I couldn't agree more. Whoever conducted this was a complete amateur or and anject failure as an interviewer. What an awful mess of forced answers with no candid or reactive elements whatsoever.
