Retired Special Forces Officer on Leading the Epic 'Pineapple Express' Evacuation of Kabul

  • Scott Mann spent his twenty-three year Army Special Forces Career involved in Foreign Internal Defense, Counter-insurgency, and Stability Missions all over the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
It was in Afghanistan, serving as a Green Beret, where Mann helped implement the Special Forces Village Stability Operations. These operations allowed him to forge critical relationships with the Afghan people, who in turn helped aid the U.S. in routing out the Taliban.
In 2021, when the Taliban began retaking Afghanistan, Mann organized an ad hoc collection of people to use all resources necessary to help evacuate their Afghan allies. The group became known as 'Task Force Pineapple' and was mainly comprised of retired U.S. Special Forces veterans.
The clandestine operations continue to this day and have helped save the lives of countless vulnerable Afghan allies and their families.

I would say it thus: "This is the type of man we need to HIRE and REPRESENT American interests at the federal level." Patriots stay home to run their businesses and care for their families. We hire men and women like Scott Mann to do the things we don't have time or interest to do: Go to Congress and vote after reflecting on the directions given by your constituents. And, most importantly, quit Congress after a maximum of 12 years to return to private life.

The respect I'm feeling for this man's sense of honor and duty and personal responsibility defies my ability to articulate. Our leaders, one by one, left our national reputation besmirched by their actions and inactions and sheer ignorant arrogance throughout the "War on Terror".

The problem is not just politicians, its culture.
The middle east does not share the same values as western cultures. People there are bounded by family lineage over nationality. They have existed as a warlord culture for thousands of years. When you introduce a central government, that government has to be run by people. This inevitably causes corruption and bias as the government is staffed by a shared lineage. This new power is then leveraged against rival lineages.
The Taliban is bounded by islam. This is something people in the middle east can agree on which is why they are so popular.

I think he was also leaning grr towards the "people's government "as a body that didnt represent our democracy but whatever government they would want to establish, one that doesnt enforce their beliefs with mass killings preferably. If you didnt defend that kind of government, the violent terror cells that kill to get what they want will just come back as they always have, like it did.

Tl:dr- our government forgot there was a war going on that needed to be won or we would continue the endless conflict we were in. They were so disconnected with the harshness of their actions they left billions of dollars worth of military weapons and equipment for their terrorist government to do as they please.
He had a very good opinion on why there was little effect in the middle east after 2 decades, the people in charge were never focused on it like it was an actual war. We fight there and have conflict but for no permanent goal due to the lack of understanding by the people in charge. The boots on the ground integrate, teach, fight, and die for the people who live there, and almost all civilians at home and running for office were focused on stupid political moves to get elected or deface, and memes. The real motivation to do something there died once people over here stopped believing there was any way to win. It was an endless war because they didnt have to keep making reasons to be there. Soldiers would volunteer for their own reasons while politicians continued to be who they are.

This is an example of why the military doesn't mix with politics. The People pay for every penny of the military; the service members volunteer their service to carry out lawful orders mandated by Congress and ordered by the President. I don't give a damn about his opinions on "politicians". The military's job isn't to make or opine on political decisions, the military's job is to follow lawful orders.

Joined the Army in 93. Wanted to see combat. Got out after 4 years upset over not seeing combat. I was 26 when 9/11 happened. I had a recruiter call me to join back in. I knew my military history. I told the recruiter and my gf who is now my wife. “ The Russians lost. Why would we do any better” I developed Peacetime PTSD and a anger toward 9/11 vets. I was right over 20 years later. Stupid war and waste of lives. I used to be jealous of 9/11 vets and their combat deployments. I pity anyone who joined because of 9/11. I did not need a reason to join. People like Chris Kyle who could have joined when me was 18 plus. Not for a reason. You vets who joined later in life only because of 9/11 vets are posers.
