Caused by excessive individualism, promoted by the society as a whole, praising all kinds of selfishness, killing culture, killing community, killing true humanitarian bonds to rely on each other, then we have huge corporations out there acting like they are hiring, whilst they don't hire, or demanding super elites for hiring, which isn't 99% of the majority.
You know the world has gone crazy when work organizations starts to believe hiring humans are their wasteful cost for corporate management, whilst having little interest in training them either.
In this current moment of 2024, the "Love for Digital" (or you could say Machines or Numbers) is favored over the "Love for True Human to Human bonding"
We know where that is leading us, and the economy showing us the answer.
Inflation, billionaire favoritism, depression across a huge chunk of people, and crooked Media writing fake & reporting fake to attempt decieving the common people.

Im a truck driver in America, I can really relate to this. This career involves alot of solitude, which I enjoy now. In society I wasnt successful. Doing this so far (it is such a different way of life from how most people live), so far thankfully I've been doing well. It's strange, a part of what makes a person successful is contingent on how society defines success. People that cant function in society could possibly flourish if the society happened to develope in a different direction that happened to be more aligned with their personality.

@Solitude633 sometimes its fun, sometimes its boring. Sometimes its relaxing, sometimes its stressful or terrifying (usually weather related). I love it but the social isolation has affected me. Im content with it but sometimes I know in social situations Im a little off now 😂. I stay out months at a time and lately mostly sleep and lay around when Im off. If i stayed out 3 weeks or a month at a time and had an active social life while off that aspect might be different. The isolation got to me at first now it doesnt bother me

This makes me think of Durkheim's concept of anomie where people have too many choices and are no longer made to conform through cultural traditions, values, and beliefs. This phenomena seems to counter his concept. Rather than being more likely to commit deviance because there are too many choices and lack of cultural social controls, cultural social controls are combining with material realities to create a different type of issue. I am a sociologist but not a fan of Durkheim. However, because I spend a lot of time teaching SOC 101, I spend a lot of time explaining Durkheim and, so, thinking about his work. As was typical in his time, and arguably still is, he focused primarily on the West.

It's definitely a spectrum. Extreme community-above-all-else may rule in Japan, but we have the opposite going on (individualism-above-society, aka "Me-me-me") in the West. And we're seeing challenges with societal collapse because of it... can't see past our own noses to reach a place of empathy with those outside our group. "Our way or the highway."
We should all probably be striving to reach more toward the middle of that range. You can't have strong individuals in a harmonious society when you're at one extreme or the other.

Basically no one country would be 100% optimized for the ways you don't fit into your origin society unless you want to make a group that becomes its own community of different accepting you may have organized chaos or limited rules but try to add for the individuals to be their very unique selves yet you still need to determine what would be no's in your community so you can deal with that. These people need support as in others who accpt their outside of culture traits and they need to be able to view therr unique ways that do not fit into their society as actually just fine which ups their personal confidence and security in one'self. oh you just said that.

It's just such an unfortunate phenomenon because so much of it is a result of unrealistic standards set by capitalism and (in my opinion) the patriarchy. I think being a hikikomori disproportionately affects more men than women because of social pressures enforced by outdated patriarchal values. And it doesn't help that a lot of men still fight to defend and uphold a lot of the very patriarchal values that are detrimental to them mentally, emotionally and socially, which is why feminists encourage dismantling the patriarchy; it harms all of us at the end of the day.
And I agree that learning to love/accept oneself in the long run can be more beneficial than always trying to fit in and keep up with everyone else, but in societies like Japan that are so strict when it comes to protocol and fitting in, I can understand how and why so many Japanese people are finding it hard to find that delicate balance between not breaking the harmony around them but also not feeling compelled to dim their own unique light in the process. It's easier said that done.

In many societies, the concept of "majority rules" has long been the foundation of governance and cultural norms. However, this principle often blinds the majority to the lived realities of minorities, creating imbalances that only become apparent when roles reverse. It is a universal pattern: once individuals from the majority find themselves in a minority position-whether through migration, political shifts, or demographic changes-they often gain a stark awareness of the societal flaws they once overlooked. This dynamic underscores the critical need for empathy and proactive inclusion, regardless of one's current standing in the societal hierarchy. True progress comes not from the dominance of one group over another but from fostering a culture that values diverse voices and equitable representation. If we wait until roles reverse to recognize injustice, we miss the chance to build societies that are fair and resilient for all.

I'm also a hikikommori every week. I only go out "once a week to walk around". Or just buy some supplies. I have a work from home job so I can sustain my living and pay for my apartment mortgage. I never talk to any just workmates(when there are meetings, no personal talks).
Then I just watch pron. I'm satisfied with that. As long as I can eat what I want and save some cash(invest it in a blue chip stock) while paying for my condo property.
Done chasing girls as every girl that I like is stupid or an A-hole. I wish every simp would just stop giving validations so women can have respect to men again.

I'd like to know how the man who traveled to help with his withdrawal did it. I mean where did he get the money? I'd love to do the same being a 14 year shut in because of health issues and autism as well as being abused by people. I'm trying to change now at teh ripe old age of 44 but I am terrified. Mostly from a financial stand point. I could quit easily become homeless with just one small miss step. And living on the UK benefits system is terrifying. Hundreds of thousands of people have died because of it. I dont want to become one of them.

Whilst hermitism has been a significant factor in the lives of some people for thousands of years, today there are so many distractions that may facilitate the ease of life as a hermit and this is very dangerous for younger generations that are targeted by the entertainment industries. This does not necessarily mean that in time there is not the possibilities to create viable outlets for inclusion back into societies by these entertainment systems or how they will inevitably evolve to create social interactions that are as plausible with intelligent non player characters as real world interactions and how we go from authoritarian tyranny to a meaningful society that utilises the creative outlets of individuals may give play for those that were hermits in our current society to become social butterflies in the future but through means and methods that they determine to be beneficial for them.

Depends on the person I would say. Some of them do (probably doing work-from-home arrangements). Though many become hikikomori after losing their jobs. Some live with their parents. Some collect retirement funds or government subsidies, etc.

Is it not interesting that this only takes place in affluent nations and not third world countries? And if it takes place in third world countries it takes place in the middle income and above brackets? The poor cannot afford to idly stand by. Even homeless people scavenge for food to survive and interact with people in order to surive. Sadly, until Japan learns to change their culture to be more open to change then I think this will continue to get worse.

Jesus, the Son of God, said that we should love God and our fellow human beings as we love ourselves.
Does anyone think that he ordered this for no reason?
To live in God's order means to have fellowship with people who are our brothers and sisters.
God's commandments are there so that people can do well. He, God himself, does not need our help, but he is happiest with us when he can rejoice with us, because we develop, progress and work together as individuals and as a community.
The lesson is that I understand this now, alone, while I sit in my room every day because of mental problems based on guilt because I wasn't really kind to those around me.
Could it be that my compulsion to withdraw taught me what attitude I lacked in order to maintain a fair, helpful and polite association together with loved ones?
I think so. It's still a lesson I have to complete.
That's why I think that the current godlessness of people, the denial of the truths of the Christian faith, is to blame for the fact that people hide and can no longer be happy together. There is not enough Love anymore.
Moreover, the gap between left and right, rich and poor, racial enmity and other antagonisms disturb the Love to which we are bound for good reason.
May humanity wake up soon enough, that not Billions of lonely individuals will lose the true sense of live.
