My daughter's name is Jai (hard on the i), and her best friend's name is Jai, pronounced like yours. My daughter and I are both trained nails techs.
My name is Jaquaia Jai, and I’m a nail tech
Hi, just found this video and its exactly what i need. I was a nail tech in another lifetime, 35 yrs ago, and gel was just coming into Australia. Oh, and electric drills were frowned upon because it was too easy to do damage. Anyway, I have decided to start doing my own nails, mad at 58 yrs old i know, and needed a refresher course in the new gels. This video is perfect and taught me everything I needed to know, now its just practice, practice, practice 💜🩷💜
Salons have done almost terminal damage to my nails , I will never again will i visit one. Can’t wait to dry this method
Sorry to hear that but I am glad that you found my channel 🌺🤍
Was looking for a good tutorial without a drill. I have cats that get nosy when I'm doing things and I don't want them breathing in the dust. This definitely helps!
I just got a dust collector off Amazon for 25.00. Sharing just in case this information may help
Giiiiiirrrrrl, this is THE BEST, ACCURATE, PROFESSIONAL and CLASSY tutorial video I have seen in a long time.
Clear, informative, perfect angle and lighting. The tips and tricks are perfect for professionals and novices alike.
Thank you for keeping the standards high, approaching your education in a calm and thoughtout way.
Just perfect 👌🏽
🥹 Thank you so much. This really made my day 🌺🤍
I fully agree!
TOTALLY❤ I have learned MORE from Jai in a month than I have from spending WAY too much $$ by watching and asking questions from “my Nail Lady” for the past decade……I got to a point where I just refused to pay such a crazy amount of money and it was not like I was asking for sculpting or decals or flowers or 3-D etc as she could do literally ANYTHING…….I even had a GF say to me “Why don’t you just take a course?” And then I went with her to HER “nail lady” and I must have caught about 9 “wrong/unhygienic/sloppy/etc” things that she did to her nails including CUTTING her cuticles that were still ALIVE so out came “oh it’s just a little blood” which was when I had to draw the line…..I am a Nurse Practitioner so now she is in my aseptic world…..I was polite but to the point because the straw on this camels back was when she just looked at me as if I was a “nut job” and pulled out a pink nail block that was CLEARLY USED and she had already drawn blood so that was a “Nope, nope, nope…..no Hepatitis for my GF, not in my lifetime…..” and we went back to my house (I have amassed quite the collection of Nail EXTRAVAGANZA items as my Hubby calls it, I turned my ipad on and spun it around so she could watch “Journeys With Jai” while I FINISHED HER NAILS……Of course I had her wash her hands with Bac Stat and get the bleeding to stop….grrr. But they turned out really well IMO, she said “I LOVE THEM!!!!” About a million times and asked when I will do them again….to which I replied that she could just watch Jai’s entire channel front to back and then do her own and KNOW she was NOT going to get Hepatitis AND she would have beautiful nails but she was NOT going back THERE again!
After 2 days she text me to thank me for her “mani” as well as the lost 2 days of “binge watching” JWJ as she feels like her IQ is up “a couple points” LOL…..so we went shopping for some nail items that Jai had recc’d (GF had a LIST, Bless her heart!) and we were looking at two different glues and she turned to me and said “WWJD?” & and I knew IMMEDIATELY what she meant and burst out laughing saying “My Little girl is all GRow’d up!” & we laughed and laughed and pulled out our phones to find the brand of something Jai had said was what to use for something and we heard laughing from the Cash register area and it was the girl working there (about 25-ish) and I looked at her and apologized right away thinking I hope she did NOT think we were laughing about her or anything in the store and she was still laughing as she started to ring in some items and lifted up a bottle and said “Yes, I believe Jai would approve of this…” and we ALL went silent for about 2 seconds and then peels of laughter and tears down our cheeks……we made a new friend that day❤.
So, Jai is famous all the way up here in chilly 🇨🇦. We do love you girl! If I knew 10% of what you have forgotten I would quite Nursing!!!! You are our Guru!❤
I’m just now coming across your comment and it has truly made my day! This means so much to me you have no idea and I’m just happy to be able to assist you guys in anyway I can 🥹🤍
With the prep layer, after filing and then cleaning with alcohol, what she places in her nail bed, then on the gelx to make it putouts or “tough” did she cure it at all? She didn’t mention it. I’m a beginner beginner. lol it needs to be exapkined because if not tokd to cure I’m just going to assume to layer it without curing it. Of course not the last part before applying the tip on the natural nail. But prior the few times she did on her natural nail and the first on the tip itself.
I never thought to put the dehydrator on the inside of the nail tips!! Thank you!!
Happy to help!☺️🌺🤍
Didn’t she say acetone?
@@elianagamez1775 the acetone is for a seamless blend for the cuticles.
@@barbieetherockstar5767 ohhhhh ok I misunderstood thank you!!!
Best video ! And that trick with the acetone to set the nails at the cuticle is an amazing tip!!! Thank you! 😊
Baby let me tell you!!! This method is the best!!!! I have never had a “homemade/DIY” set of nails last this long without one single pop off. These nails didn’t so much as budge in four weeks. So thank you so much for sharing. You have a new subscriber in me!!!
The acetone melt is the key!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!
I COMPLETELY DROPPED…MY…JAW….HOW have I not known that…..I feel like a “I was this many years old when i found out….”🤦🏼♀️…..sheesh. Thank Heaven for Jai❤❤❤🙏🏻
I don't understand the acetone thing. Doesn't acetone remove?
@@_nay__ it breaks the nail product down so that it lays flater to your nail without needing to file.
I watched this video over and over it's one of my favorites. The music behind it is very nice as well. I just love your videos.Thank you❤
Thank you so much!🥹🤍
The trick with the small brush and acetone is such a game changer for making it all blend seamlessly. It definitely makes a difference! I do however use a primer and base coat before applying the tips/nails as well; it seems to really matter, in my case. Otherwise I'll get a full nail popping off after a couple of weeks or so.
So I use a primer on your natural nails and then a vase coat on your natural nails right on top of that primer and then will use a dehydrator on top of that?
@@_nay__ I do it like this: 1)dehydrator, 2)acid-free primer, 3)base coat, cure. 4)apply soft gel nail, cure. 5)go in with the brush with acetone on the soft gel, close to the cuticle area just like on the video (I also do it on the sides of the nails). 6)buff, top coat, cure and proceed with nail polish. Hope that makes sense!
@@brunacirelli what product do you use for your base coat?
This is exactly what I was looking for! I wanted a demo of the acetone cuticle sealing hack. Ty! U made everything look so effortless. And I love that u didn't use a efile at all. That's impressive 👏🙌
Thank you so much, I’m glad you found it helpful ☺️🤍
great, can I ask the size of your gel x ?
The acetone is such a great idea!! It will save me so much time.
Yes, I don’t do this technique often but it’s a good alternative if someone does not have or want to use a drill.
Genuis!!! Tysm!
What if I don't have dehydrator what can I use in place of it ?
Yess thank you, a good nail drill is quite expensive for me as a beginner, this alternative is the best, seriously ❤
I absolutely love a red nail. I had on red nail polish in a video on my other channel and my viewers kept complimenting me on my red polish. I’m definitely saving this video and I ordered supplies from Amazon to start doing my own nails.
I have such a difficult time finding the right amount to add when applying the nail.
I either do too much or just not enough 🙄🤦🏻♀️.
Plus I do these on myself so one hand (my left) A L W A Y S looks better than the right hand side lol. For the obvious reason being I’m right handed 😂
New watcher and now a subscriber too your Chanel.
Hopeful and excited to learn and hopefully master my own nails.
Since becoming a stay at home mom I’ve been doing my own nails a lot more often than I did before.
I was going to go into the nail profession 5\6 years ago and then got diagnosed with MS. The numbness I experience isn’t ideal for me to create and achieve that career outside of just personal, hobby fun.
Love to grow and constantly learn as the nail world evolves though so I’m all for your Chanel and the other ones I’ve come across and loved so far.
Thank you for the content.
Look forward too seeing much more sis!

I think the step you took to melt the cuticle area with acetone may be what I have been missing. Beautiful job
I hope it helps ☺️just the smallest amount so that it doesn’t lift the Gel extensions. And thank you for watching 🤍
I love the acetone trick for that seamless transition! Cannot wait to try it, it looks so smooth.
Love the shape and the color OMGosh! My set was delayed so I canceled! Oh dear, now the set is the only thing available now. I guess it’s worth it ❤❤❤

Wow thank you so much! 🥹🤍
I truly enjoyed this video as a nail tech for 30 some years. It’s hard to find time to really fine-tune my own nails as I’m really busy so this is a great way for me to make sure that I’m having nice nails not wasting too much time on to promote my nails.
Wow! Thank you so much. That is a major compliment and I truly appreciate it coming from someone of your experience.🤍

Great, great, GREAT video tutorial, thanks! I'm going to try the acetone around the cuticle technique. I just did my first set yesterday and I am keeping them clear until my new gel colors arrive. :) Funny how I like my nails even more now doing them myself.
Amazing tutorial! I haven’t seen anyone use dehydrator on the tip, I’ve seen primer though. I’m not sure what dehydrator would do for the nail but very interested to see how it works for you!
Thankyou soo much for the tutorial. Can you film their removal process too. How to remove these with less damage ❤
Hi,
Thank you I currently have quite a few removal videos on my channel ☺️🤍
One of the best and most simple tutorials ever. Thank you! ❤

Yes! So simple and straightforward. Loved this. Thanks for all the tips!
TYSM 🥹🤍
I put one this layer on my natural nail of the for gel and cure for 30 seconds then I apply it to nail tip and cure that for 1 min and they come out great. I don’t dehydrate the nail tip I just cleanse with alcohol pad to remove the dust and dehydrate and then I apply the young nails primer one coat the nail. Last a few weeks with no lifting. I know if u over prime it could cause lifting to so be careful. Ur nails look good though iv never tried that method.
Thank you so much for sharing your method it can be very helpful for someone in the community. ☺️🤍
Thank you so much for your videos. I learned so much from you. This is so much easier then the Polygel, which took me so many hours and leaked underneath and was too thick. So, you inspired to try this method instead. Just put on the nails yesterday. Hopefully it lasts for some time
I'm so glad you found this method easier! Fingers crossed they last you a long time ☺️🤍
Your nails are beautiful and the color is 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

HelloJai! I'm glad I found your channel. I'm always frustrated with removing the old tips and applying the nail tips to avoid them popping up or not looking nice after two weeks of growing natural nails. Would you please make a video on properly removing them without damaging the natural nails? Thank you for your tips and wishes for success in your channel!✨

Do you use the ph bond ?
Has it ever happened that one of your clients got allergic reaction by gel nails? I am really interested to follow a nail course but after seeing all the infections that might happen because of gelnails. I am truly terrified to choose a nische between gel and biab nails. can you please give me honest opinion about it?
Do you need to use extra a base coat before applying the red color ? I always use a base coat
What’s better ?

Whats the best nail glue and topcoat for shiny nails?
Newbie here. Just started doing my own nails. I got dehydrator and acid free primer together. Are they the same thing? I see you only used dehydrator. Ty in advance!
Hi,
In my most recent videos I use both the modelones nail dehydrator and primer. ☺️🤍

Thank you so much for watching 🤍
will it work witj nail glue instead of gel? xoxo
I've never heard/seen anyone else do the acetone melt 😮 Going to try that on mine next time!
Yes, I find it to be very helpful just using the smallest amount so that your nail does not lift. Thanks for watching.☺️🤍
I’m a tech as well my nails gelx. Lifts or pop off less than a week …. I don’t know if I apply too much primer or what I did wrong please help me me thanks 🙏
Hello! Quick question…if I purchase the full matte gel nails do I still have to buff them at all?
Hi,
You don’t have to I just still do it out of habit lol
Would you recommend using a builder gel before applying gel polish? I use soft nail tip but would like for them to be a bit stronger and not so flimsy.
Yes using builder Gel to build up the structure and strength of your soft gel tips is great! 🤍
Love your technique
Thank you ☺️🤍
Pls am new is it the gel that is acting as the glue pls I need to know
Your nails are very beautiful! I like it❤
TYSM🤍
14:52 👋 I love your videos but can you make them brighter like more light it looks dark on my phone and hard to see❤ I had my brightness up all the way too ... really enjoyed this set tho.
I agree! They are a tad too dark. I love her techniques sooooo much.
I watch a lot of your videos and love how you explain every step! Now for the questions. I have oily nail beds and have my hands in soap and water as well as lotion/oils pretty often. Dishes, showers, cleaning.. and I have dry skin. Will they still last?
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
Longevity can vary for everyone based on different factors, including nail care routines and daily activities. Given that you have oily nail beds and frequently expose your hands to soap, water, and various lotions/oils, this might affect how long your nails last. Proper care and perhaps some adjustments to your routine might help improve their longevity. Using gloves during cleaning and moisturizing your hands with a non-greasy lotion can make a difference.🤍
@@JourneyswithJai thank you for the advice & tips (no pun intended 😁)

Good afternoon😊 What brand full cover GelX tips are you using? Thanks!
i think she using the apres sculpted stiletto gel x tips
I am using Apres stiletto gel x tips? I have them linked in the description box as well. ☺️🤍
I hope this isn’t a stupid question…Your nails look Fabulous…Is there a way to paint the nails prior to gluing them on? I am right handed and I already know my left hand will be looking like a million bucks and my right hand would be looking raggedy😢
Hi,
Thank you so much for the compliment on my nails!
That's not a stupid question at all. Yes, you can definitely paint the nails before gluing them on. This is actually a great technique to ensure both hands look perfect, especially if you have a dominant hand.
However, when it comes to applying the nails onto your dominant hand after painting them, I wouldn't recommend using UV gel glue. The gel glue might not cure properly through all of the gel polish. Instead, I suggest using traditional nail glue, which should work perfectly and ensure a secure hold.🤍
What brand of tips are these?
Good job👌🏾 I’ve noticed no base coat used, so you recommend or is it not necessary ?
Thank you! I’ve done it both ways and didn’t experience any issues with longevity. I currently now use a basecoat more so just to create an additional layer of gel product between my natural nail and the extension. ☺️🤍
Nice video, so that LED or is it UV lamp works well I see
Hey Jai, love your tutorials, they are so helpful. Just wondering if there is one for taking off the gel nails please? I was going through your list and can’t seem to find it. Thx ❤

Does this acetone trick work the same for acrylic full cover tips like tipex.????
I have not tried it myself
Im about to order Tipex

How do you keep your shape when polishing I feel like the polish changes my shape
Hi, I recommend applying thin layers of the gel polish. The gel polishes I use are very opaque so I don’t have to put on thick layers. I usually apply about 1 to 2 layers of my gel polish on the nail, and I keep it even thinner along the sides to maintain the shape. 🤍
What's the best opaque gel polish do you use, if I may ask?
I like DND, Beetles, Cre8tions, Born Pretty and OPI just to name a few of my top favs. 🤍
What tips did u use for this one ? Brand/length?
@@PrincesssAngie i think she using the apres sculpted stiletto gel x tips
Thanks for the video! Instead of using the Gel Soft Tips can you just use nail glue and cure?
Hi,
Using nail glue and curing is not a recommended alternative to Gel Soft Tips. Gel Soft Tips are designed to provide a strong, flexible, and durable bond, which is not achieved with nail glue alone. Nail glue is typically used for temporary fixes or quick repairs, and it doesn't have the same strength or flexibility as gel products. Curing nail glue can also lead to unpredictable results and may not provide the desired durability or appearance. For best results, it's advisable to use the appropriate products as recommended for Gel Soft Tips. 🤍
what lamp did you use?❤️
Your nails came out beautiful I used to do my own gelx as well but noticed burning sensation and itching not sure what I was doing wrong
Thank you! That sounds like you could possibly have an allergy to something in the product I would consult with a specialist. 🤍
Just found you today, this was a very informative and helpful video! Love the color on you! Thank you for this ❤ Question: do you have any videos about proper removal of the nails?
Hi! ☺️ Yes I have a removal video on my channel🤍
May we please pretty please have a list of the names of items you used . You did amazing job

I see you didn’t use an acid free primer and apply a cured gel base coat before you applied the extensions. I have been searching to see if this was possible because base coat gel cure I’m allergic to and am trying to see if I can avoid using it but I’m able to use the acid free primer. So I’m curious if I should just skip the primer too or stick with it now seeing this
Hi,
As a Nail DIYer I have skipped primer and my application lasted great. I now apply primer and Hema free base gel before applying my gel extensions. I’m one try different ways but so far they all have worked. Sorry to hear that you are allergic to your base gel🤍

Hi,
To apply the extensions first I do recommend it but I have seen others use their UV/LED lamp instead. 🤍

Is there a certain brand of acetone? Is any polish remover am acetone?
I use pure acetone because some nail removers have essential oils in them, which can create a oily base on the nail.
Can i use any nail brand?
Yes of course☺️🤍
You don’t apply and gel to your natural nails line the original instructions?
i’m curious why you didn’t use a base coat?
In my updated videos I use base coat but not using it didn’t affect the longevity of my sets. 🤍
Thanks for the video, it helped me a lot, can you please tell me can we use a builder gel as the first layer on the tips before the color, to make it more stronger?
Yes, absolutely I sometimes add a layer of builder gel for strength ☺️🤍
@@JourneyswithJai thanks dear I appreciate it ❤️
I noticed you didn't use a base coat. Is that necessary or can we do it without one?
I personally have not had any issues with lifting of my gel polishes without a basecoat, but that can definitely depend on the brand. I would still recommend using a basecoat to be safe.🤍
I notice you didn’t put a layer of the gel on your natural nails like most teach I’m going to try this method I feel ima get better results
@shadayimadiyi4363 I never use gel overlay with my full tips. I didn't realize it was even a thing until recently and mine last 3+ wks. I just never personally keep them that long bc I get bored of looking at the same nails for 3 weeks lol But I have a few times used hard gel or hybrid for a full cover fill. Those don't last nearly as long though.
So beautiful
