Swap the body! As a mechanic and fabricator I understand both sides of the restore Ed's body vs. complete swap but I really think you should swap the complete body. Ed will be in awe, and he's not getting any younger.

WOW! Strong opinions on the body swap! Both ways! Here is an idea for a compromise: Use the (identical once painted anyway) new body. swap in some original parts with "character" then Chop up the old body into pieces, stamp them with "Ed's Golden Nugget" and auction them off as wall art to the fans. Share the sentimentality, build a better Nugget. Proceeds could go to Ed, to a charity he supports, or just cost recovery. Whatever you do, I am sure it will be awesome! Great work! Great content!

Here’s an idea to bounce off Matt: Save a bunch of work by getting a few parts ( let’s say, door handles or whatever) off Ed’s original body. Put the donor body on Ed’s frame. Reconstruct Ed’s body good enough to be mounted on a 20-30’ pole at Matt’s office to become his new shop sign, so people and Ed will see the Golden Nugget immortalized, then surprise Ed with the rebuild. Winner, winner, chicken dinner as Lizzie would say ;-)

As nostalgic as it “seems or feels”, it makes no sense whatsoever to cut a perfectly good body to then scarf those parts onto a beat up twisted shell. 100% do a body swap. Restoring Ed's original body is a rabbit hole that you should not go down. There'll be enough 'fixin' and 'fabricatin' just doing the swap to feed your need to tear things apart and put 'em back together better than factory.

It's hard to explain yes it makes 100% sense to body swap it. Yet there is a history, feeling, pride, respect and many more the boys feel on this project and to put in the extra work to keep the gold nugget original and be able to tell Ed buddy we kept it as original as we could to give Ed back something he had this entire time to relive some of his past that feeling alone and see the pure happiness this will bring Ed that alone is worth the extra work. I love and understand the sentimentality of saving Ed's Suzuki. I think the best way to do this is to strategically save the best few parts of his (maybe glass, right side fenders, hood, dash?) and graft them into the new body. Call it "replacing all of the worst of the old one." By the time you replace the entire left side and roof, how much different is it really? Ol' Ed already appreciates everything that he knows about, so far. (recovery and "tinkering to get it to run') You said it yourself. "Ed isn't sentimental for that body." It is the effort that his friends are willing to put out that he will love. (Will we see this kind, tough old man cry? I hope just a touch of dust in his eyes. Maybe a tickle in his throat.)
This is just my opinion that I know you didn't ask for. I'm still going to watch and enjoy every moment of these episodes. It fits with Matt's theme of "That might not be the right way to do it, but it's the way we did it this time." Keep up the great work!

I don't understand the thought process of not using the good body when so much of the other stuff has also been replaced. The frame is the heart of the vehicle. Keep some good sentimental pieces, get it together as quick as possible, Ed is "getting up there" in years and I'd think getting it done sooner is better than possibly getting it done too late.

I appreciate that they got the Golden Nugget out of the wild. After that the idea of the restoration gets a little cloudy. Is it to give Ed back his original restored Golden Nugget (emphasis on original) or a Golden Nugget 2.0 ( modified or replaced: engine, transmission, suspension, wheels, tires, frame, body)? Is urgency to completion of any importance? I think it would be important to be completed sooner than later so that if this is for Ed he has time to enjoy it. I realize this is more of free time build than production build but the extra time taken for it be original Golden Nugget than Golden Nugget 2.0 is taken from Ed’s time with it.
