    Know it's been over a year since you put this out, but have to say it's one of the best vids on youtube for this repair. Considering the problems you had, even with a lift and more tools than I've got, this vid convinced me to just take it in to my local shop rather than inevitably messing it up myself, but I understand a lot more about how these are put together now, so it was still super useful. Thanks a ton for all the work putting the video together!

    I followed every step in this excellent video on my 2011 Honda Crosstour. The job went perfectly.
    Except for 2 broken 19 mm sockets on the crank pulley. Ended up using a jack under the breaker bar. JFC.
    This video tutorial is one of the best I've seen! Thank you!

    Thanks for the great video. I got one tore down at the shop now. Interesting how this video pops up. Mine has a leaking water pump with a mystery oil leak. The water pump has been leaking for a while. I'm gonna replace the crank seal while I'm in there. That heavy socket that fits that crank bolt really makes it easy. Not overly priced on Amazon. Thanks for your time and good work. Peace

    One of the best videos and great explanation of everything. Great job dir. God bless. On a crank bolt that's really, really tight like that one, I've used a strong arm with a pipe extension, fouled it against the frame, then bumped over the engine to loosen the bolt. Works great espically on a Toyota 22 R engine.

    • @Caesar-nq5if
      @Caesar-nq5if ปีที่แล้ว

      I would do the same basically. Honda engines turn clockwise so it works out the same. That bolt is a Son of a Beeotch. I hate taking that crank bolt off more than at part of the job.

    I got a 2007 ridgeline that has 220,000 miles on it, and I don't believe the timing belt has been done for quite sometime if at all. I've turned wrenches for awhile, I don't own a lift which you don't really need but tbh I'm a little nervous to do it. I heard many horror stories doing these. I really appreciate this video. Thank you!

  • @tomturner134

    Great video and tutorial! Too bad your battery died at the belt installation step, as I missed the part of removing the tensioner pulley to account for the tightness of the new belt. As I tried to slip the belt onto the pulley, it caused cam 2 to rotate. After an hour of extremely careful cam positioning, I rewatched your video and your comment about having the pulley off saved the day getting the new belt on and everything back together quickly. This is one of my first comments on a repair video and wanted to thank you and now I have a Honda timing belt and water pump replacement off of my bucket list! My wife just let me know how quiet the van is now that the hydraulic tensioner is not banging the tensioner pulley to death!

    Thank you for posting this video, I have a 2015 model that is creeping on 100k miles. I have seen several videos on exactly this procedure, I have been taking bits here and there from each video to do my timing belt job. It's nice to see how you manage to improvise with alternate tools/gadgets to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, since I have access to a M18 high torque wrench I'm not taking any chances and have ordered the harmonic balance holder and the massive 19mm socket to make my job easier. I also noticed you have some Harbor Freight tools in your arsenal which I will also be using. If it weren't for people like you and other mechanics that post "how to" videos, a DIYfer like me who simply wants to save some money and feel proud of doing it, we would be able to do jack.

    • @davidpettengill914
      @davidpettengill914 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Honda Crankshaft socket makes short work of the CS bolt. Basically its a thick walled 19mm socket which prevents the loss of torque through the socket. I paid $28.00 for the Crankshaft pulley holding tool and socket on Amazon. It was well worth it.

      looks like Bill and Joe are 180° apart. I don't think the grease is going to stay put for long on a hot engine without seals (compare that to the brake caliper pins that are sealed with a rubber boot)... I think Joe wins with dry!

    Engineers that design cars should have to do a 5 year apprentice job repairing cars before their allowed to sit down and design one. I bet they would make them a whole lot easier to work on .

      Or maybe technicians could become engineers after a few years of this experience

      great idea but doubtful. remember who your dealing with, young engineers fresh out of college, probably never had anything other than a spoon or fork or knife in their hands. I'm sure they know what tools are needed and they might have had lab work on an engine outside of the hood of a car. But never worked on their on cars that they drive to work.

      As a mechanical engineer, the training and knowledge requirements to become an engineer is far more difficult than one of a mechanic, I used to work for about a year as a car mechanic while going to university, honestly it was not that bad. I think when you say engineers should work as mechanics, your talking about ease of repair, which is a design consideration, however there are more significant constraints that engineers are concerned with.

    I came up with an easier way to tighten the crank pulley bolt. On the special crank bolt impact socket, draw two lines along the sides with a paint marker 60 degrees apart. Torque the bolt to the initial spec of 45 lb/ft. as usual. Then put a mark on the engine corresponding to the leading line on the socket. You can reposition the socket so that the mark on the engine can be made with a better view if necessary. Then simply use an impact wrench to tighten the bolt until the second line lines up with the mark on the engine which should be exactly 60 degrees. Being the special socket is now marked; you can use this method in the future jobs as well. I found your video very helpful when I did the timing belt kit on my Ridgeline. Thanks!
